IdgieThreadgoodeIsMyHeroine · 22/05/2024 17:11

Emma Corrin claims to have experienced homophobia since 'coming out' as non-binary.

Emma Corrin is in a relationship with Rami Malek.

Make it make sense.

I mean I have a woman’s face, massive tits and I’m 5’2. I am clearly, perceptibly and blatantly female. It doesn’t matter how I dress or act, no one is going to mistake me for a man.

Same, although I'm not as tall.

When I'm wearing a dress and doing my knitting I'm clearly a woman.

When I'm in jeans and a t-shirt taking the washing machine apart to try and fix it I'm clearly a woman.

Oh yes, I agree that it's not homophobia because I never said they were in a homosexual relationship. It would be queerphobia.

I don't think you can be clearly, perceptibly and blatantly female without buying into traditional stereotypes about what being female is.

Yeah, physiology, anatomy and biology aren't stereotypes.

If you can't tell men from women, may I suggest spectacles.

ahjeez · 22/05/2024 20:32

Themma Corrin

Now I’m wondering if this ‘logic’ also applies to other innate physical characteristics like race Hmm

'themophobia' 😂😂😂

Actually, Emma Corrin is a non binary person in a relationship with a man. That makes them a queer couple, not a heterosexual couple.

Nonsense

ArabellaScott · 22/05/2024 21:22

Nobody has mistaken these people for a same sex couple. Ever.

I hope I've misunderstood this because the way I'm understanding this sentence is that it is astoundingly offensive. Some women have bodies that look "clearly, perceptibly and blatantly female" even with short hair and a tracksuit on. Avoiding stereotypically feminine presentation does not protect women from the awful shit men can do to them. From bitter fucking experience. How horrible to suggest your natural shape means you buy into regressive stereotypes.

Of course she hasn't experienced bloody homophobia. People pointing out she's a straight woman not a super speshul non binary non woman aren't being homophobic.

But that's transmisia and gatekeeping…Or it would be if I fully understood the concept of non-binary under the trans umbrella.

Transmisia (also called Transphobia) is prejudice plus power; anyone of any gender can have/exhibit gender-based prejudice, but in North America (and really worldwide), cisgender people have the institutional power, therefore Transmisia is a systemized discrimination or antagonism directed against transgender/nonbinary/genderqueer/agender persons. Transmisia and cissexism are rooted in a desire to maintain the gender binary (i.e. the categories of 'male' and 'female'), a social construction which seeks to assign gender based on a person's declared sex at birth. Transmisia, as well as the gender binary from which it extends, obscures the reality of the spectrum and fluidity of gender and marginalizes the identities and experiences of persons whose gender does not align with their birth-assigned sex and/or who do not align with either category of male or female.
Trans folks can be agents of transmisia as well (particularly when acting as representatives of cis-dominated systems, such as higher education) by perpetuating the notion of gender binary or "passing" superiority and using it to discriminate against other transgender people. For example, a trans woman at a company may refuse to hire a genderqueer person because their gender presentation might "confuse" customers, or a trans male administrator at a traditionally women's college may deny the application of a non-passing trans woman for not "transitioning enough."

Apparently Dannii Minogue didn’t come out as queer, according to a bisexual comedian on Instagram.

Does Emma Corrin think she is non-binary because she has short hair? Or that people presume she’s a lesbian because she has short hair?

Female isn’t a stereotype. It’s a biological term. Factual. Not concerned with feelings or stereotypes or ideology.

What does this mean? Could you give some examples?

ScrapeMyArse · 22/05/2024 22:50

I'm definitely phobic of posh people who don't own their own privilege.

Justcallmebebes · 22/05/2024 22:52

Regardless of her non binary shit, she is the most irritating them person ever

I get this from my niece, who is in a 'queer' relationship with a bloke. They are both they/thems and experience terrible 'homophobia'.

It's interesting how she always tells me this, as I have been an out lesbian for over 40 years and could tell her a tale or two. I just smile and nod.

Bloody hell. I hope she isn't too embarrassed when she gets a grip.

Fourfurrymonsters · 22/05/2024 23:05

Well that’s a load of shite anyway because Male and Female are not categories of socially-constructed gender binary, they’re sex-based scientific, biological descriptors, as they are for pretty much every species on earth. And WTAF is cissexism. And furthermore why would you not assign gender (boy, girl) to a baby whose sex (male, female) is observed at birth? Why is this suddenly a heinous crime? Honestly I think these folk are just “what3words” in human form vomiting out word salads (but not male or female, because that would be offensive of course).

You are a much better person than me @Ketzele. Your niece will probably wise up eventually but the interim appropriation must be eye-watering to behold. I'm cringing for future-her.

Fucking hell, it's finally happened. Instead of supporting feminists in challenging the validity of the traditional stereotypes imposed upon the female-bodied, the narrative is becoming "claim a trans identity or you deserve sexism". So stupid and sickening.
