Emma Corrin claims to have experienced homophobia since 'coming out' as non-binary.

Emma Corrin is in a relationship with Rami Malek.

Make it make sense.

Can somebody explain to me when gamine and butch became the same word?

EC is gamine. She is about as butch as Little Bo Peep.

Hmm..do you mean her outfits & haircut are gamine? I'd agree.
Or do you mean that even if she wore traditionally masculine clothes, she still wouldn't be butch as she has a very feminine face?

Thank you! I was trying to remember the word I'd use to describe EC's presentation and it is 'gamine'. She's more Bambi than butch.

Do you mean her clothes/hairstyle? I'd mostly agree. Or do you mean that even if she dressed in a traditionally masculine way, her features are too feminine for her to be butch?

Besides, butch isn't her word to co-opt given she's not lesbian,( and for all we know has never dated women)

Is this true?
If so it speaks to the complete and total erasure of butch women in our culture.

Editing to add: My original post is a bit snipy but in the time since posting it (thankfully within the editing window) it's occurred to me that this might be the source of your consternation, @AdamRyan.
You look at Corrin and see a butch lesbian (and therefore someone who would be a target for homophobes).
To me she looks more like a pretty twelve year old girl. It would never in a million years have occurred to me that someone (including someone homophobic) could look at her and think "butch lesbian."

Edited

Hmm....when you say she's not clearly not butch, do you mean that her dress/haircut etc are obviously feminine? I'd agree, given the photos shown.
Or do you mean that even if she had a more typical butch haircut & wore traditional masculine clothes, she still wouldn't be, bc a woman with conventionally 'pretty' feminine features automatically cannot be?
