See below (it's vile):

"Lloyd Evans started writing for the The Spectator in 1998 and later became its poetry editor and theatre critic. In 2005 he co-authored a play, ‘Who’s The Daddy?’ based on sexual shenanigans at the Spectator."

1998? Been a while.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 18/04/2024 13:09

Wow. When someone shows you who they are and all that.
Very grim.

PlumDog · 18/04/2024 13:13

a few points:
he gives the full name of the historian who was giving the lecture.
He also gives the name of the specific woman he paid for sex.
He gets the name of the Cambridge college wrong (Darwin not Downing).

While it's deeply grim and grubby without naming the women involved, you could just about make an excuse for it if those involved were not identified, as a sort of 'diary of a dirty old perve' piece of confessional writing. As it is, however, it's just sexual harassment.

It’s click bait. Serious journalism is dying because news is funded by how many clicks they get, so articles and editorials are written to appeal to the lowest of interests or to cause outrage and then get rage clicks.

Not sure that's the case. The Spectator is paywalled, and they don't show so much as a line of this muck to try to get you to signup. https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/my-surprisingly-decent-proposal/

It's not clickbait in the usual sense of '10 amazing things, number 6 will subscribe you'.

Clickbait isn’t always free. It can be a lure to get you to register or subscribe.

Wow. What a revolting man. Can’t listen to a woman give a lecture without thinking about sticking his dick in her. One of those men who can’t quite deal with successful and intelligent women maybe? Has to reduce her back to being an object that exists for his benefit. But she was way out of his league anyway so he had to pay someone else to service his pathetic cock. She didn’t want to shag him either, hence she had to be paid to do so.

I hope he realises how fucking pathetic this story makes him look. And while Lloyd may well be a slave to his sad libido, not all men are, thank goodness.

Cauliflowery · 18/04/2024 13:54

"Like being chained to a lunatic, that's how a man feels in relation to his libido"

If that's the case, why does our society allow men complete freedom? Shouldn't they have this lunatic curtailed somehow or at least be under chaperone or some kind of tagging system?

This man couldn't afford the lecturer, but could afford the prostituted woman. What if a man-chained-to-lunatic can't afford either? Is rape understandable then?

God I'm sick of men - of whatever politics - who view women as objects for their gratification and validation.

I recall that it was the Telegraph (I think) that floated the idea of journalists being paid per click for their stories. Hopefully shouted down. The direction of our porn salacious click bait saturated digital experiences is utterly depressing.

Yes. All of this.

I'm a regular on twitter and it's not often something gets to me but this pathetic man actually turned my stomach this morning. The fact that he didn't even consider the light this would show him in and thought it was perfectly fine to perve on a woman just doing her job and then also perfectly fine to go and hire a sex trafficked woman actually made me feel revolted. And that before the casual sexism and ageism and writing about it and naming both women without their permission!

What a sad sleaze that this is the only way he can get off, makes you realise how bad misogyny still is in our society.

I really can't get the words across to say how much this bloke I'd never heard of until today has made my skin crawl.

Related to this I was wondering this morning whether men’s sex drive is inherently entirely detached from the experience of their partner, and only some men choose to prioritise that.
I can’t imagine having sex with someone who wasn’t enjoying it, but many men ?most? seem perfectly happy as long as they get their end away.

FlakyPoet · 18/04/2024 14:42

🤮

ErrolTheDragon · 18/04/2024 14:54

Urgh.
Well, any woman he tries to have a liaison with in future who has read that is likely to have an extreme case of the ick.

BoreOfWhabylon · 18/04/2024 14:56

The woman academic in question has commented.
Good for her.

Of course it's possible the whole thing is a product of his imagination, given he got the college name wrong and seems to have invented a 'railway terminus' in Cambridge ... afaik it has 2 non terminal stations. Confused
Burk.

AIstolemylunch · 18/04/2024 15:14

I suspect it is the sad made up sexual fantasy of an increasingly impotent sleaze, as I really dont think the people running the prostitutes of Cambridge would allow the to do freebies for men that had 'left their wallet at home". OTH, part of me does hope that he has given his bank account details to the Chinese triads.

Quite. He's sexually harassing both of them with an audience. It's the posh wanker's version of shouting shit at women in the street while other men walk past oblivious.

Those same men 'don't see misogyny'. Urg.

HelloWorld68 · 18/04/2024 15:21

Well his "career" is over!!

Oh dear. What a shame. How sad!

AIstolemylunch · 18/04/2024 15:23

I doubt it unfortunately. He'll brazen it out a la Boris Johnson down at the Club and make jokes for the next few years about poops, careful what I say, must get those hairy lesbians after me again hahaha. And of course, most of the blokes in charge will be secretly back slapping him and 'asking for a friend' where the brothel is.

AIstolemylunch · 18/04/2024 15:24

Mustn't

PreFabBroadBean · 18/04/2024 15:25

Vile. I feel the editor of The Spectator must hate him though.

The slang term "berk" is a contraction of "Berkeley Hunt", which in turn refers to the C-word. Rhyming slang.

Sadly you're very probably right.
