See below (it's vile):

"Lloyd Evans started writing for the The Spectator in 1998 and later became its poetry editor and theatre critic. In 2005 he co-authored a play, ‘Who’s The Daddy?’ based on sexual shenanigans at the Spectator."

This reflects very badly on the Spectator.

It has been getting a reputation for sensible, women-friendly articles on sex/gender and identity politics more generally.

But this? Object lesson in how you can trash a reputation that took years to build in one fell swoop.

Fraser Nelson (editor): WTF were you thinking to allow this?

RayonSunrise · 18/04/2024 17:07

Unfortunately, the rise of the gender critical article in conservative publications is likely as much driven by the-enemy-of-my-enemy-is-my-friend as it is genuine internet in women's rights.

My takeaway from all this is that whether you're right or left leaning, if you're a woman you can't take your eye off the ball for at all.

Related to this I was wondering this morning whether men’s sex drive is inherently entirely detached from the experience of their partner, and only some men choose to prioritise that.
I can’t imagine having sex with someone who wasn’t enjoying it, but many men ?most? seem perfectly happy as long as they get their end away.

I definitely think it's socialised. The message that women are subservient to men exists, both covertly and overtly, across all layers of society and culture.

But yeah, the thought of shagging someone who wasn't enjoying it is stomach turning, and rapey.

flyingbuttress43 · 18/04/2024 18:06

Clearly chastity belts were invented for the wrong sex.

Almahart · 18/04/2024 18:21

Well, at least he knows what a woman is @ all the dullards and shills that spout that Tory line.

Some 'conservative publications' aren't 'gender critical' all. more like 'sex is real, gender roles tied to sex are a Good Thing'.

Completely agree, Errol.

therealcookiemonster · 18/04/2024 19:15

this is one of the reasons why I wear hijab

ps I realise that men will still perv and also its their responsibility. but while men like this exist in society I choose to protect myself from their sordid gaze even though I think it's wrong that I have to. also would still wear it even if all men were angels because of the spiritual elements of wearing hijab .

Agree. I’ve been subscribing to the Spectator for a couple of years because it was one of the first to publish feminist critiques of gender ideology. This is a horrible piece of journalism.

Almahart · 18/04/2024 19:23

This is unbelievably grim re the Spectator's Taki

I wouldn't call it a piece of journalism.
I also think it can be a mistake to tar a whole organisation with the same brush ... I don't read the spectator often, but there's probably other contributors who are still worth reading. I mean, I'm not going to give up on the Times with Janice Turner and many other good commentators and investigative journalists just because I can't stand Melanie Philips and disagree with some of its other opinion columnists.

Almahart · 18/04/2024 19:37

Same, I love Hadley Freeman and Daniel Finkelstein and ignore Rod Liddle and India Knight.

I quite enjoy the Spectator, but it is a bit of a warning as you were saying re my enemy's enemy being my friend and that a whole swathe of people who know what a woman is want to fuck them/keep them in the kitchen.

VampireWeekday · 18/04/2024 20:24

This made my fucking blood boil. I am raging. It's not just a perv piece on this academic, it's trying to put every woman in her place. Her place, of course, is the bedroom.

Just think how many celebrities have been caught with prostitutes, or photographed going into brothels - Hugh Grant, Eddie Murphy, Ralph Fiennes, etc. And also how many have admitted to using prostitutes in their memoirs - Russell Brand, Frank Skinner, Colin Farrell. Even Paul McCartney claimed to have had an orgy with prostitutes when he was in the Beatles. Men really do have their brains in their penises. Frankly, when you think how easy it now is to look up escorts, I wonder how many of the men in our lives have secretly visited one. I have a nasty feeling it’s more than we suspect.

It’s perhaps forgivable in a young man. A boy in his teens or early twenties is callous and stupid and driven half insane by his hormones. But an older man should know better. An educated, middle-aged man like this guy should know that he’s funding an ugly and depressing trade. People make out that “it’s just a job,” but they wouldn’t want it for their daughters. That is no way for a human being to live their life.

MrsTerryPratchett · 18/04/2024 20:50

This is always such a red flag. The most famous men in the world, could shag any number of willing women, chose to use prostituted women. It's so ugly. They actively wanted women who DIDN'T want to sleep with them, instead of all the women who did.

VampireWeekday · 18/04/2024 20:51

I will never read a Spectator article again. It's enough that the editor let this be published, naming her, that I no longer trust anything else they allow to be published either.

lordloveadog · 18/04/2024 21:15

Ew. Should we still be letting men into universities? We know they sexually harass and abuse students and colleagues, but if they're starting to perv on lecturers and use them as excuses to exploit impoverished and trafficked women, maybe its time for that door to close. Women couldn't get degrees at Cambridge for centuries, not until 1948, so it's only a re-balancing if men have to sit out higher education for a few hundred years. They clearly aren't managing to police themselves or each other, and they cause a lot of damage, so why are they there?

It’s the convenience. Truth is, a lot of men really don’t like women. They want sex, but they can’t be arsed to talk to them. Charlie Sheen said he paid prostitutes not for sex but to leave after sex. Colin Farrell said the same. I can forgive a teenager, but men like Charlie Sheen, who are rich adults, should know better.

My lovely late husband worked in the music industry. He told me some band members hated the idea of exploiting the desperate fans and preferred prostitutes as the deal was more impersonal. He told me that when the tour bus left in the morning heartbroken girls would be weeping as they waved th3m off. The prostitutes would be long gone with no distress. I could understand the band's perspective.

Boiledbeetle · 18/04/2024 21:30

I've Just read the whole thing and will be filling his ramblings under things that never happened. what a perverted tosser!

Of course the notion of just not having sex at all, paid or desperate fans, whilst they were on tour didn't cross the poor little mens brains...

Eh? Damn all men to ignorance because one middle aged (I assume from his career length) journalist happens to attend a lecture and then write something vile?Confused

Esgaroth · 18/04/2024 21:34

No visible distress, maybe.

anothernamitynamenamechange · 18/04/2024 21:37

To summarise:

Man sees clever woman in position of respect. Man is sad because clever woman unlikely to sleep with him. (She is likely stuck up). Man goes to prostitute. She is not in a position of respect. She is nice to him and lacks confidence, and makes man feel good about himself.

The end.

Ofcourseshecan · 18/04/2024 21:40

AIstolemylunch · 18/04/2024 15:14

I suspect it is the sad made up sexual fantasy of an increasingly impotent sleaze, as I really dont think the people running the prostitutes of Cambridge would allow the to do freebies for men that had 'left their wallet at home". OTH, part of me does hope that he has given his bank account details to the Chinese triads.

😂👏
