No. You're not going to get to rewrite history.

No surprise if she’s moving into justifying surrogacy, there’s plenty of money in that and she’s the perfect person to front it as a gay rights thing. Utterly without scruple.

Not an ounce of shame.

No, they're still there. The top rated comment is from Kate Harris of the LGB Alliance who points out that:
"The single reason Bev Jackson and I decided to set up LGB Alliance was precisely because Baroness Hunt refused to debate. So did Jan Gooding who took her place pre Nancy Kelley. Don't forget we have all the evidence. Stop the lies".

Well done Kate! It is like Ruth Hunt is remembering a completely different Stonewall.

Funny you should mention Dominic Cummings. He seems to have nothing but disdain for the onward march of gender woo, he's been quite open about it. Most recently, he retweeted JKR and said this:

"Tory MPs went along with all this madness & helped it spread & entrench across Whitehall exactly as you'd expect - on this as on ~everything (crime, tax, regulation, DEI) tories are functionally equivalent to Labour, only some rhetoric differs. A Cameroon party by definition is something that follows every revolting fashion of London intelligentsia downstream from the Bay Area, it's what Cameron/Osborne think the point of politics is"

He is married to Mary Harrington, the GC journalist, so I am sure she has kept him up to speed on gender woo.

I firmly believe that. With a few exceptions, of course. But look at the Post Office scandal. Top brass seem like wall-to-wall sociopaths.

Now, I’m not suggesting anyone being discussed here has these traits because I obviously know nothing apart from the news.

More broadly though in terms of leadership and lying there have been many studies on sociopathic traits in business leaders. This article has links to several research papers including evidence that people who believe their own lies, in the act of lying, is one reason that they are so effective at lying.

There are also impulsive people who say things without thinking them through. And these characteristics can be found in people working in very senior positions as sometimes impulsivity is seen as useful in fast paced workplaces.

Do psychopaths really make better leaders?

Psychopathic personality traits are often seen as desirable in the corporate environment, but research suggests they can do more harm than good.

Yes, I should have said psychopaths, not sociopaths and also made clear that that is just my opinion and I have no direct or specific knowledge.
Thanks for the article. This bit seemed to get to the heart of the question in the title:

Leanne ten Brinke, lead author of the research and an assistant professor of psychology at the University of Denver, believes it is time to “rethink” old assumption that ruthlessness and callousness are favourable traits for business managers.
“Our findings are consistent with other research suggesting that individuals with more psychopathic traits seems to be able to 'talk the talk’, but not ‘walk the walk’,” she says.
Psychopaths are more likely to gain power through dominance, bullying and intimidation, rather than respect, she adds. “However, gaining power is not the same as wielding it effectively."

To me Hunt appears to present as an intellectual sociopath/high functioning sociopath. A very odd but highly intelligent individual with an extremely high sense of self worth. I dont know what she was like to work for, it would be interesting to hear from ex Stonewall colleagues. Dominic Cummings comes across in a similar way.

Agreed with this and her apparent religious mania is, for someone in her position, very concerning to me.

'Today Hunt says that, as a lesbian herself, “I’ve always been deeply concerned about the internalised homophobia that is going on for young women that means they think they can’t be a dyke, and they’ve got to be a boy.”

I'm so angry. The absolute nerve.

Its remarkable.

I knew a guy who turned out to be a con artist and fraudster.

Hunt is absolutely reminding me of him now. He could openly lie to present himself in a better light and sound like he believed himself to be telling the truth too.

ArabellaScott · 14/04/2024 15:59

I think they think that it's enough to make a statement saying what people want to hear. They will then present that as the true one and ignore/discount all evidence to the contrary as noise. Post-truth, innit.

Having just read Hannah Barnes’ book, I think that Polly Carmichael and the GIDS management team also used public statements that way - they tailored them to suit what an intended audience wanted to hear and not to reflect the reality of what GIDS was really doing.

Well said. It is time for a full public inquiry into how our institutions were captured by this extreme ideology, how much public money has been wasted, and all those who benifited from it.
