“The intention with the Cass review is to be neutral, but I think that neutral has maybe moved,” said Laurence Webb, a representative from Mermaids, a trans youth advocacy organization in Britain. “Extremist views have become much more normalized.”

Confused

Anyone got that meme about how the left, the centre and the right and the guy in the middle who hasn't moved at all.

That.

With bells on.

These people are reminding me of advocates of smoking/ use of oil, who shouted very loudly, refusing to believe they caused harm, even when presented with lots of evidence. Their behaviour is criminal!

Yes to this. Mermaids is currently under investigation by the charities commission.

Radio 4 at the moment have a trans woman on, about how his experience was/is nothing like Cass has stated in their report.

So still the BBC are not fucking listening to the evidence. Angry

LizzieSiddal · 10/04/2024 17:19

Oh now he’s saying “countless trans people don’t feel safe online because of this toxic debate”

What about women being punched in the face, losing their jobs and being arrested for calling a man a man. Hmm

Cauliflowery · 10/04/2024 17:20

That's funny. But in all seriousness, there's nothing inherently left wing about a belief in gender ideology. Socialism is not about hyper individualism.

I agree with the sense of my own politics having changed little (if anything discovering feminism took me slightly further left). I see it as too many on the left abandoning left wing principles, and therefore not being on the left any more.

Very accurate - a good description of recent years - so lovely to see the tide turning against those extremist views 😁

theilltemperedclavecinist · 10/04/2024 17:25

I just find it weird to be called an extremist for believing in O Level Biology. It's genuinely Orwellian (overused though that term is).

Unfortunately for Mermaids they can no longer use the better a live daughter than a dead son emotional blackmail.

The Cass report has fucked up their leverage completely.

IwantToRetire · 10/04/2024 17:43

David Bell on PM has said (not as crudely as this) Hilary Cass has had to be polite in her report, but we can all read between the lines!

I have noticed this statement in the Cass report.

There were more than 3,000 young people being seen by gender identity services were birth-registered girls presenting in early teens, "often with quite complex additional problems".

I previously worked with SEN teens and I have said from the very start that it was criminal to allow so many neurodivergent and SEN teens to both socially and medically transition. I know of 7 girls who were neurodivergent who were able to access medication and allowed to socially transition in the education system.

It almost feels like a deliberate way to take the chance for these teens to reproduce in the future which is a very dark thought.

These teens should have been safeguarded and this has all been allowed to happen.

Yep I'm worried that whilst the neurotypical teens seem increasingly bored and pissed off with trans stuff, this cohort will be more difficult. They're so vulnerable already (higher instances of sexual assault and abuse) and even more likely to rely on online spaces. I've been suspicious about indoctrination at after school sen youth provisions too, as they're often staffed by people not a whole lot older. Trans seems to offer such tantalising protection and power to kids who have often had very little autonomy over their lives and bodies. It offers belonging to kids who have only ever felt painfully different.

They really are the most despicable organisation. They still show transitioned kids telling their story on their website that reads more like an advertising campaign for Starbucks. All about the new name day on their Starbucks cup. Terrible.

Yes - someone who apparently transitioned fairly recently, as an adult (MtF).

They could hardly have found someone less representative of the demographic of concern. Interviewer sympathetic and unquestioning throughout.

The BBC appears to be all over the place on this.

It's all they've got. They have to keep supplying these 'happy clappy trans children.'

And yes, they're despicable.

borntobequiet · 10/04/2024 17:57

Oh, pleased to hear David Bell being sensible and forthright on PM. Some balance, at least.

Next thing I would like to see is a bit of drilling down into the actual difference between the middle-aged men transitioning, and the children who showed up at GIDS.

Debbie H has told everybody about it being a sexual fetish, and yet, people are still reluctant to say it out loud.

Absofuckinglutely. I blame US centrism for a lot of this nonsense, and people who think there's anything inherently left wing about genderist ideology are invariably affected by it to some degree. The European left contains more people who are better at structural analysis.

I listened to the Today programme this morning, driving to work and the pm programme coming home.

This morning we had a trans woman (man) and the mother of a "daughter" (boy/man) and this evening we have had a trans woman (man) from Pink News.

It's ridiculous. Really disgraceful lack of curiosity and fair representation of other points of view. Why no detransitioner like Kiera Bell or Ritchie or others who are vocal. Why no parents whose child/children got sucked in to this through school and social transition and mermaids ?

Really appalling reporting. Angry

But she said this care was made even more difficult to provide by the polarised public debate, and the way in which opposing sides had “pointed to research to justify a position, regardless of the quality of the studies”.
“There are few other areas of healthcare where professionals are so afraid to openly discuss their views, where people are vilified on social media, and where name-calling echoes the worst bullying behaviour. This must stop.

If we're going to reflect on this report honestly and objectively, we also need to own that this branch of Mumsnet has played a part in that polarisation of public debate.

There are indeed two sides. But please stop trying to pretend there are two roughly equivalent sides on this issue. (I was going to say ‘this debate’, but the trans side has spent years demanding that there be ‘no debate’.)

The TRAs send death threats, bully people out of their jobs and livelihoods, intimidate venues into cancelling women’s bookings, bring crowds to scream at women speaking, demand ‘rights’ that negate women’s human rights, and pour out a constant, endless stream of vitriolic abuse. Etc etc etc

Gender realists and feminists say ‘We need to talk about this’ and ‘children should not be sterilised’ and ‘confused teenage girls should be allowed counselling before having elective mastectomies’. Etc.

Not two equivalent sides in a debate.

lemonstolemonade · 10/04/2024 18:17

Yes @Vod

Also, does this mean that Sweden and Finland are now right wing purely on transgenderism, despite their social model being far more progressive in terms of equality and redistributive taxation than the mainstream Democratic Party?

Ofcourseshecan · 10/04/2024 18:19

ResisterRex · 10/04/2024 06:02

Oh no. No no no. It is because MN refused to yield to activists' demands and threats that we even have this discussion. Without which, there would be no Cass Review.

No. No rewriting of history to show MNers and FWR as the bad guys. Absolutely not.

Absolutely this.

Well thanks to Cass we will all have to be serial flashers. TRA’s and handmaidens will come on here and say where is your evidence and/or here is my thoughts/evidence and we can all flash Cass, section xxx, so stuff that up ya jumper.

Or maybe they will not bother us anymore and we can concentrate on the pushback.

Also i think it has far reaching implications as in another flash we see, die, die, die, labour self ID, die, die, die, conversion therapy bill, (not a comprehensive list).

Hoo fucking ray!!!
