UK: Cass review on gender identity is being 'weaponised' by anti-trans groups

This review is being weaponised by people who revel in spreading disinformation and myths about healthcare for trans young people.

Oh dear, oh dear, Amnesty. <shakes head>

mrshoho · 10/04/2024 19:16

Wtf is that response from Amnesty? They are quite clearly not prioritising what is best for children and young people by that statement. I wonder who's running this charity these days?

Theeyeballsinthesky · 10/04/2024 19:22

I see amnesty are still determined to behave like utter fuckwits

David Bell being really clear and sensible on C4 News!

Starts at about 15 minutes in, so should be able to watch on C4+1

It makes for fascinating (horrifying) reading and I too thank mumsnet for the contribution of posters and more likely the catalyst/support they gave to those brave people who put their heads above the parapets to raise concerns about GIDS.

I haven't posted often but one section stood out to me as a non-health but nevertheless professional who has had serious concerns about trans-health care albeit it for vulnerable adults. At 114 in the summary it states that clinical staff need broad based skills - and at other sections confirms patients must be treated holistically.

This must be replicated for adults too. I had cause to write to a clinic with grave concerns about the mental health and mental capacity of someone receiving treatment from them and requested they complete a certificate of litigation capacity for the work i was connected with. The reply...
Capacity is presumed,
we have no-one qualified to complete
and essentially we'll shut our eyes as to whether there may be underlying mental health diagnosis contributing to apparent gender dysphoria and go full steam ahead with irreversible treatments.

Outrageous.

So concerning, and really worrying for someone carrying out the type of role you have.

How many other examples of this practice and attitude have been happening for years.

It has come up in a number of interviews as to how the basic of using clinical evidence just went out of the windows in this area of health care.

The level IW has stooped to. How can anyone think this way?

IW's rebarbative comparisons aside, how on earth did IW overlook that the BBC managed to showcase the finely honed insights of Freda Wallace (amongst others)?

Although it says a lot when the state of play for articulate representatives means that Freda is a go-to for researchers.

ApocalipstickNow · 10/04/2024 20:05

Is that Mark Williams from the Fast Show replying to India Willoghby and if so what is he saying?

Snowypeaks · 10/04/2024 20:11

If the "healthcare" was harmful and ineffective as a treatment, black or Jewish people would be pleased it was being withdrawn.

I don't know but I saw IW is busy with a gofundme page to get money so IW can get her dodgy eye fixed.

Just checked and no, not that Mark Williams I'm pleased to say!

FinallyASunnyDay · 10/04/2024 20:14

Thankyou so much for all the links @IwantToRetire - you have made my job of distilling the report and its implications for my team (including all the responses to it) so much easier!

mrshoho · 10/04/2024 20:15

Sorry I quoted the wrong bit. That was for @ApocalipstickNow !

fiftypercentoff · 10/04/2024 21:27

While a considerable amount of research has been published in this field, systematic evidence reviews demonstrated the poor quality of the published studies, meaning there is not a reliable evidence base upon which to make clinical decisions, or for children and their families to make informed choices

Re the extract above from the review can anyone advise if the 'studies' in question have been listed anywhere ? I was wondering so that when Stonewall /Mermaids quote this study shows and that study shows etc. we can see that Dr Cass analysed those studies and found them to be a load of tosh

Karensalright · 10/04/2024 21:31

She provides a table of all the studies that were reviewed just scroll the report to find them.

fiftypercentoff · 10/04/2024 21:42

Yup. IW chose today of all days - presumably given that there wasn't much else on - to launch that.

The pain is the result of face feminisation surgery, apparently. Surgery that someone might end up with, having been put on a pathway...

Am buckling under the irony.

Brainworm · 10/04/2024 21:45

I wonder what surgeries black and Jewish people seek to affirm their race? I wonder what race-related distress they experience. Being born Jewish but identifying as Irish? Or perhaps a Black Irish person experiences race confusion and needs healthcare for this? Would practitioners immediately affirm them in their acquired race?

One of the shows I listened to today had a caller talking about trans people being the only group who have to fight to access treatment and who politicians interfere with. What planet are these people living on? HRT, fertility treatment, breast reduction for biomechanics reasons....

I assume none have ever applied for an ASD/ADHD diagnosis because that’s a full on battle for years.
