Stonewall is down. Stonewall has fallen. The coordinated well-funded attack on it by the Religious Right, Brit Media and the BBC - who astonishingly completely ignore the LGB Alliance - has taken its toll. You can tell they no longer have the stomach to fight.

Thank you so much for all the responses links @IwantToRetire

Amnesty🙄

Was the RCPCH the one that almost didn't allow CAN-SG conference or am I confusing them with a different organisation?

Good lord, what prompted that?

Perhaps it's the press saying things like this:

"Stonewall is at the heart of all this. Having won all the battles against legal discrimination of gay people — the reason we established it — it needed another cause to justify its continued existence. It used and squandered the trust, respect and position that gay people had spent years establishing to promote an aggressive and bullying campaign to promote their ‘no compromise’ position.

The Times tried to contact Ruth Hunt, who stepped down as chief executive of Stonewall in 2019, for her response to the Cass Review but she could not be reached for comment.

How charities and web fuelled ten-year rise of gender transition

The landmark report on gender services by Dr Hilary Cass arrived a decade after girls’ referrals began to soar

@Datun
It appears to be a reaction to the Stonewall statement at the top of their twitter account - lots of repostings of it from various people - which is being viewed as Stonewall selling out. It's the one that starts:

"The Cass Review, an independent review of gender care services for children and young people, has been published today after almost four years. We know that elements of the review and how it is covered in the news may cause concern for trans children and young people and their loved ones."

I've got some more links but am a bit confused about what I have or haven't posted so sorry for any repitition. Have stuck with "statements" from health related organisations etc., and groups who have been active campaigning.

I think these are the new ones:

What is important, above all, is that trans and gender-diverse children get the quality healthcare that they need and deserve. The Cass Review can play a vital role in achieving this aim, if its recommendations are implemented properly. Many recommenda...

Just wondering if anyone knows how the trans population is counted? To compare it to the Jewish population in the uk?

Who does it include? Non binary? Queer? Drag? Over 18s? Under 18s? Those accessing health services or those who aren't too? Are you included if you choose to socially transition only? Or at what point in a transition?

Like black or Jewish is very fixed ... you're born it and you stay it don't you?? but you can also be black or Jewish and supposedly any of the above too surely?

missin · 11/04/2024 02:04

Pressed send too fast

But who counted this figure IW suggests and how is it counted?

I have to fight and wait years for treatment for my health conditions... as a woman, I encounter the world not being as easy for me as many every day as a disabled person... heck I get offered psych support for my pain management, because the drugs I take long term can cause negative consequences (even fatal) .... it's not possible that no trans person is not incapacitated in some form physically or mentally or also black or Jewish.. I'm just missing how you could compare populations that surely overlap and say they are equal in size?

missin · 11/04/2024 02:07

Lots of drugs have long term negative consequences

Why is it a bad thing to recognise that is possible when it's not even tested long term?

Why are we bullying to state simple logic?

You are so right.. it's an idiotic comparison by IW.

DeanElderberry · 11/04/2024 07:49

The figure for 'trans people' may be linked to the census returns - which were flawed for all the reasons discussed at length here.

Also I just want to say thank you to all on FWR for all these threads, which educated me.

Datun · 11/04/2024 08:14

IwantToRetire

Thanks for all the links.

I haven't read them all but there's a noticeable difference between the people who have actually read the report and understand its implications, and stonewall and mermaids, etc, who are trying to gloss over it all and spin it onto themselves as positively as they possibly can. Obviously something that even India Willoughby can see straight through.

Stonewall desperately spinning:

"We urge NHS England and policymakers to read and digest the full report and consider Dr Cass' plea 'to remember the children and young people trying to live their lives and the families/ carers and clinicians doing their best to support them. All should be treated with compassion and respect

Meanwhile, Allison Bailey pulls back the curtain

The Cass Review has confirmed that our concerns were right. But by raising them we elicited vitriol on an unimaginable scale from Stonewall and its allies, which continues to this day.

Continues to this day

I also call for the immediate removal of any influence of Stonewall and its cohort from our schools, hospitals and public spaces. Never again can we allow such a toxic and dangerous ideology to proliferate in our institutions.

Yeah, she won't be alone. Hopefully Willoughby's insight will be accurate for once.

Radio silence from Dodds other than reposting Streetings statement.

She did only a day ago post 'Labour would bring in a no loopholes ban on conversion practices.'

There needs to be a statutory inquiry

Many moons ago David Cameron said that lobbying would be the next political scandal, he was referring to corporate lobbying if I recall, but that really extends to all forms of lobbying including by the charity sector.

Government really needs to understand why groups like stonewall had such influence over Government policy and not just in 'health care' but also rewriting vaste swathes of policy to get ahead of the law.

At least 10 years ago I knew someone who visited Downing Street semi regularly. He said then that there were always trans lobbyists trying to advance their agenda. It is unhealthy how much lobbying, of many kinds, goes on in private.

I hope that one lesson learnt from this is that public debate of issues is helpful when trying to create balanced policy.

Cass review: ‘a huge step ending treatment that was doing harm,’ says former Tavistock Trust governor

Dr David Bell served as a staff governor at the Tavistock Trust and wrote an internal report in 2018, raising concerns brought to him by colleagues about the way the Gender Identity Development Service was treating patients.
