Stonewall states that “misgendering” isn’t a crime

In an astonishing twist, Stonewall has stated that correctly sexing men is not a crime.

They are, of course, only admitting this now it’s been made very clear by Police Scotland’s reaction to JK Rowling.

They said nothing over the years as women were chucked off social media, for correctly sexing men. Not sure if anyone was actually arrested for only doing it, but they have allowed the fear to fester on and on, leading to chilling of free speech.

What a bunch of weasels they are.

(SPAG question: one or two t's in 'ferreting/ feretting'? I feel like it should be two. Need to get it right as suspect I'll be using this phrase a lot in coming days and weeks)

Oxford and Cambridge dictionaries as well as Britannica all have one 't' in 'ferreting' and 'ferreted'.

AlisonDonut · 04/04/2024 10:22

This new law has really been a giver of hope.

Thank you BONNIE WEE SCOTLAND.

viques · 04/04/2024 10:26

I hope this isn’t going to be a Stonewall twist in the tail.

If misgendering someone isn’t an actual crime, though a crime involving “real” violence towards a transgender person obviously is, then are they also going to say that writing placards asking for women to be hung or threatening women with rape aren’t real crimes either because they are only words, not actual crimes of violence.

Especially since misogyny was so unfortunately accidentally left off the Scottish hate crimes bill…………

Zimunya · 04/04/2024 10:29

I hope someone's told Starbucks...

queenrowling · 04/04/2024 10:31

I think we're seeing the slow steady disintegration of Stonewall in real time. Their undue influence in all walks of life has been seen to be too heavy handed and terrifying when police and public bodies treat stonewall law as the actual law of the land. Which it aint.

There's always "threatening behaviour" under the Public Order Act 1986.

If you correctly sex a person, Stonewall says you're not a criminal, you're just a disgusting, hate-filled bigot who should be shunned and reviled.

I think that might be an accurate description of the current state of play.

TBH when someone calls me a "hate-filled bigot", I just replace their words in my head with "You're a big poo poo meany smelly bum" as that's about as much as those words mean to me from someone who advocates for the erasure of the rights of women and children.

I bloody love MN. I wasn't expecting a response, as it was a bit of a throwaway comment, and yet I got an evidenced-based one. 😂

Thank you! I can rest assured in my SPAG when saying how much I hope Stonewall get held to account for including in their training the suggestion that misgendering is illegal.

Dumbledoreslemonsherbets · 04/04/2024 10:43

Accidentally, or even deliberately, using the correct sex pronoun versus a sign saying 'decapitate terfs' - which is clear incitement to violence.

Hmmm, not really the same thing, even in cloud cuckoo Stonewall land.

I think we're seeing the slow steady disintegration of Stonewall in real time.

You may well be right, their revenues are down, because increasing numbers of organisations no longer subscribe to their batshit "advice" and won't pay for it.

Good point. The interesting issue is what is a belief and what is a fact. Facts about biological sex and chromosomes should never be called a belief when they ARE facts.

Yes, I agree, and I think this is one of my slight concerns with the Forstater judgement. Despite all of the protections it has given, and the wedge to continue having this conversation, sex isn't just a belief, it is an independently-verifiable fact that we can determine with a ridiculous degree of accuracy.

MarieDeGournay · 04/04/2024 10:55

Some of you may have come across that very very accurate piece of pop psychology about narcissists - the self centered kind, not the mirror kind.

That didn't happen.
And if it did, it wasn't that bad.
And if it was, that's not a big deal.
And if it is, that's not my fault.
And if it was, I didn't mean it.
And if I did...
You deserved it.

And they walk away, trailing clouds of innocence.

That's going to be Stonewall, isn't it? Deny, minimize, project..
I just wish some of the big organizations who bought in their dodgy advice and now realise they've been sold a pup (a pop with huge legal implications...one for the AI to visualise!) they'll sue the living daylights out of them.😠

misscockerspaniel · 04/04/2024 10:57

Stonewall is biding its time until the general election puts the mealy-mouthed Labour Party into power. It will then use the statute book to douse us. Or rather, try to douse us.

Our fight is far from won.

Stonewall managed to weasel out of any blame in the Alison Bailey case.

Beowulfa · 04/04/2024 11:00

I feel some of the comments on this thread are very unfair. Weasels are fearless, resourceful predators and as Britain's smallest carnivore often hunt animals larger than themselves. Weasel mothers are the sole providers for their litter and will fiercely defend their young against larger attackers.

I will offer up "a bunch of brazen Tatchells" as an alternative.

I don’t agree, misgendering has been called “ literal violence” too many times, I don’t believe that Stonewall has had a light filled moment of revelation for no reason. They are plotting something.

All these silly institutions that think misgendering is bad, tut tut, going to have to go in and train them AMIRITE?

I quite agree.

It is possible to coerce people into a demanded desired behaviour without laws. Policies, rules, "values" in employment and social organisations, all imposed with the threat of sanctions for any perceived transgression

For example, https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5039445-disciplinary-action-for-ons-female-employees-if-they-object-to-trans-colleagues-using-their-lavatories

SoupDragonsFriend · 04/04/2024 11:24

I hope that somewhere a GC training provider is waiting in the wings with an up-to-date course for businesses and institutions previously captured by Stonewall et al. Something is going to be needed that will address facts and law, and rectify the damage that's been done.

RedToothBrush · 04/04/2024 11:24

Wow.

Just wow.

So they've revert to the evil bigot defensive line. I must say, I don't see that one lasting long with the numbers of teens who eyeroll now.

Dam has burst.

Rats and ships spring to mind at this point.

RedToothBrush · 04/04/2024 11:28

Remember Stonewall has a funding issue. One that isn't as bad as Mermaids expenses v income columns. Yet. But there's every reason to suspect it will go that way fairly quickly.

The corporate rainbowwashing bubble is starting to burst. The do-gooders looking for a cause have moved onto the next bandwagon.

Isnt Alison Bailey still appealing on Stonewall's contribution?

NotBadConsidering · 04/04/2024 11:58

They are truly a remarkably awful group of people. To stand by and watch women harassed for this very thing only to produce this, now.

They were prepared to burn witches for witchcraft and now they’re standing there with the matches hiding behind their back. Despicable.
