I just wanted to say how much I love Helen Joyce. For me she's the best thing about this whole sordid trans business.

I'd recommend you watch a few of her podcasts on YouTube. The clarity of her thinking and expression, her rationality and her non-tribalism are so refreshing. I also love the fact that with time she's run out of fucks to give and just calls out BS much more directly than her earlier comments.

Helen if you lurk here keep up the good work, I have learned a lot from you and we're all lucky to have you on our side in this increasingly important and urgent fight for sanity and our kids' future.

I have referred to 3 major international studies in this area...have you looked at the results from the Women Peace and Security Index or the Gender Inequality Index as well as the Global Gender Gap Report?

They all place countries slightly differently in terms of how well they are doing for women, but they all show very strong relationships between women's wellbeing and trans well-being & rights.

What it boils down to is that I simply don't trust any of these organisations to be the judge of women's wellbeing.

A country where a group of violent trans activists can stage a counter protest against a small group of women holding a peaceful women's rights demonstration, where the police fail to adequately protect those women, where a young man is filmed punching an elderly woman in the face and fracturing her skull, where the prime minister later says on television that he supports the actions of the violent counter protesters, and where the young man in question subsequently gets away with a telling off and legally enforceable anonymity, with the actual victim not even getting her financial losses covered, is not a country in which women are safe or respected.

So fuck New Zealand, and fuck this data.

I think it takes time before the low percentage of trans people that abuse of the self-id law in their states has an impact that is measurable statistically. But why should we measure it statistically? It's obvious that, statistically, women will be raped by men much more often that by transwomen, but why should we facilitate any increase in rapes, even modest? Haven't you just read the news from Spain, fresh of self-id, where abusive men are identifying as trans in order to have access to their partners that have fled in DV refuges?

"Last week, Ana Dávila-Ponce de León, councillor for family, youth and social affairs in Madrid, sent a letter to Spanish equality minister Ana Redondo García denouncing the new law. She had been made aware of a number of cases in Madrid in which men accused of crimes against women have abused the self-ID rules.
These cases, detailed in <a class="break-all" href="https://archive.ph/o/Z00Kj/amp.elmundo.es/espana/2024/03/19/65f9d92921efa005218b4587.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">El Mundo and reported on in English by <a class="break-all" href="https://archive.ph/o/Z00Kj/reduxx.info/spain-men-charged-with-violence-against-women-using-transgender-law-to-change-legal-sex-access-shelters-where-their-victims-are-housed/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Reduxx, are truly chilling. According to records, there have been six known cases so far in Madrid of men accused of violence against women legally changing their gender. In three of these cases, the men went on to apply to stay in women’s shelters. So far, it appears that shelter staff have refused them entry. But this is technically illegal under the trans-equality law. It is only a matter of time before a woman’s shelter is punished simply for doing its job – namely, for protecting women from predatory men."

It DOES NOT NEED to be statistically significant, in order to impose a modest burden of proof, like a psychiatric assessment, that helps avoiding at least some of these cases. I'm sure many transwomen will be happy to undergo assessment, if this helps to keep abusive men away from women.

Couldn't see a thread. Spanish men accused of DV are claiming to be TW and demanding access to the DV refuges where their wives and children have been...
