Planet Fitness is a franchisor with 2.5k gyms in North America. A woman entered her local gym in Alaska to find a man standing in front of the mirror shaving. A 12 year old girl in a towel was sitting in the corner. The woman confronted the man who said he was LGBTQ and could be there. She asked him to leave and he refused. She took his photo (he was fully dressed with shirt hair and looks exactly like any other bloke) and complained to the front desk, who did nothing. She has now had her membership canceled and she has been reported for taking a photo of a member which is against the rules.
She said she is going to report his presence to police.

Planet Fitness assist trans client in women's locker room

Patricia Silva, who was banned from Planet Fitness after posting about a trans woman shaving in the female locker room, said that person now has an employee escort to use the facilities.

No you haven't, because the woman tried the things you suggested, and got nowhere. She only started getting angry (rightly!) when they gaslit her and refused to act.

So what would you have done then?

According to her own social media posts, she did nothing of the sort.

According to her own social media posts, she did nothing of the sort.

She told him to leave because he was obviously male. When he told her he was LGBT, she went to the front desk. They gas-lit her by claiming he was female, and refused to act.

thanks for the link.

She sounds like a sensible woman.

All sorts of revolting things used to be legal. In my lifetime marital rape was legal. Laws change when brave people challenge them so the fact that the misogynistic gym owners think that it's OK for a male to be in the ladies doesn't mean women have to accept that and roll over. Of course the woman had to take a photo. No one believes anything a woman says when a man with gender is speaking. We need proof.

Murica · 25/03/2024 00:57

The attempts at shutting women up by reminding them that proper women don't make a fuss are just bouncing off. It's is a joy to behold. Good work, ladies!

I hadn't realised there was a 12 year old girl in there too.

I hope this sinks the wretched company without trace.

Yes, it would seem that PF are OK with a girl child wearing only a towel.being alone with a grown man in a changing room. I guess they don't believe in safeguarding
It's only a matter of time before something really nasty happens.
Still,.it's good news that PF is losing millions.Their contempt for women and girls is costing them.

TheABC · 25/03/2024 01:35

I did a quick search into the topic as the share price is recovering and I wondered if this was all a flash in the pan. I found the following on msn.com:

Following the incident in which a "biological male" allegedly exposed himself to the 15-year-old at Planet Fitness in Monroe, Georgia, Jakorbie Dixon, 25, of Conyers was arrested. He faced "multiple warrants for public indecency by exposing himself in the female locker room," the local police department stated.
The teen's family then filed a lawsuit against Planet Fitness. Representing them, attorney Bart Benton claims the fitness chain was aware of Dixon's alleged lewd behavior before exposing himself to the teenager.

The gym chain had already been facing days of criticism over a separate incident involving a man inside a women's locker room in the presence of a child.
And last week more criticism came after it stood by its decision to cancel the membership of the Alaskan customer who reported a "man in women's locker room shaving" while a 12-year-old girl was present.

A spokesperson for Planet Fitness told local media that the customer took an image of a person inside a locker room, which violates the company's mobile device policy and goes against the gym's "judgment-free" rules.

Planet Fitness, on its website, says that it champions diversity and provides an environment "where everyone feels accepted, respected and like they belong."
The website lists the fitness company's non-discrimination policy regarding gender identity and locker room accommodations, which states in part: "Members and team members will be treated according to their self-reported gender identity." The policy also addresses locker room usage and says that staff and gym members "may use Planet Fitness locker room facilities and programs based on their self-reported gender identity; these facilities include bathrooms, showers, and all other facilities separated by sex."

The policy notes that if "a serious concern or significant doubt" about a person's transgender or nonbinary identity arises, Planet Fitness employees are encouraged to address their concerns with the club member. If that fails to resolve the concerns, staff may request "external evidence of the member's asserted gender identity." If a gym member "improperly asserts a gender identity," they may be asked to leave and their membership may be revoked, according to the fitness chain's policy.

If true, what a mess. At least Planet Fitness is upfront about being a judgement-free zone in all aspects of the word.

I find it hard to believe that some LGBT guy started shaving in a woman’s change room with a 12 year old just randomly sitting there and allowed himself to be photographed. It sounds rather unlikely.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 24/03/2024 23:39

Apparently with QAnon links, so not sure "sensible" is the term I'd be using. Which is a real shame.

MissingLesbianSpaces · 25/03/2024 02:16

If he can legally be there, he can legally be naked there. Everyone should go to their local PF and ask: Can you guarantee my 14 year old daughter will not see a penis in the women's changing room?

If it were untrue, don’t you think PF would have mentioned that by now?

Isn’t that just the standard smear these days? Links to q anon, the far right, the religious right, the proud boys, the gammons, the Karen’s, regular seances with Hitler and always received coal from Santa?

AlohaOptima · 24/03/2024 23:02

The trans people I know (and I don’t know all trans people, hence why I pointed out the ones I know) just want to get on with living in the gender they feel they are. They wouldn’t want to be clocked so wouldn’t put themself in that position. They don’t want to draw attention to themselves.

If this person was doing a male activity (shaving) dressed in typical male clothing, with no attempt to pass as female then I think it is safe to assume that they were being disingenuous and using self ID as a loop hole to access a space they have no business being in.

So as long as he wasn't shaving it would be okay for him to be in the changing room with the 12 year old girl?

ArabellaScott · 25/03/2024 06:40

Gosh this is giving me WiSpa flashbacks.

All the abuse heaped upon the woman who objected to the transwoman with an erect penis in the naked spa section. It all just echoes, doesn't it.

Attack the women, question their motives, tone, beliefs, affiliations, character.

Just don't look at the man in the changing room with the young girl.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 25/03/2024 03:15

There was video footage. It was exactly as described.

Since she did try to raise it with the front desk do you revise your view?

I find it hard to believe that some LGBT guy started shaving in a woman’s change room with a 12 year old just randomly sitting there and allowed himself to be photographed. It sounds rather unlikely.

Which part is unlikely?

The man being there in women’s changing rooms? Happens all the time.

Shaving? That’s tame compared to previous incidents.

Allowed himself to be photographed? I agree that’s unlikely given the aggression shown when confronted.

The entire scenario? This is just another of a long list.

Remember when everyone thought the woman at the WiSpa was lying, including the Guardian, about a man in the spa naked with a semi erect penis with children around? And she was subsequently vindicated when a man was arrested and charged with indecent exposure?

Such naivety to think this can’t be true.

Winnading · 25/03/2024 07:02

HermioneWeasley · 24/03/2024 21:56

If she hadn’t taken a photo people would have called her a liar. I understand now that staff are escorting him to the women’s changing rooms!

how PF can think this is good for their business is beyond me

and yes, by definition any male who goes where women and girls are undressed and vulnerable is a predator.

I heard this too, I wonder if two women have to escort him? Two men? One of each?
Whichever way round it seems even more people have to be involved, when a simple rule no men of any gender would do the trick.

MoltenLasagne · 25/03/2024 07:10

The guy in the photo is the most blokiest bloke to have ever bloked. It really shows the truth of self ID - any man who wants to change with the women will be accepted, no questions asked.

Well done that woman for getting evidence and refusing to let it lie.

I’m also happy to see the share price plummet

Good. Pp may wish that women did everything meekly but hit the share price, make an impact

Not really hard to believe.
Are you new to this subject? It’s been happening lots.

RhymesWithOrange · 25/03/2024 07:22

This is how abusers get away with it, they use disbelief and front to cover their intentions.

Priests, teachers, sports coaches, celebrities and now "trans". Abusers used the cover of these "sacred castes" to access women and children. As is often said, if you create a loophole, they will come.

It's not phobic to apply agreed safeguarding principles to each and every scenario.

Beefcurtains79 · 25/03/2024 07:23

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 25/03/2024 03:15

I see the same tactics as the WiSpa debacle are being deployed.

Call the women liars, then if that falls down call them perverts for even looking. Then if that falls down, call them bigots and try and dig dirt on them online and use that to try and intimidate and discredit them.

We see you, and your methods are becoming less and less effective, no one is buying it anymore, and you know it- hence the panic.

ATerrorofLeftovers · 24/03/2024 22:01

What you don't do is start harassing the TW, taking photos in the changing room, shouting at the staff (as she admits on her own posts) and rant about pedos on Facebook.

Why not?

Why worry about his comfort? He’s not worrying about the comfort of the 12 year old. Why are you advocating for the woman who stood up for her to do so only in a people pleasing way, polite way, lest she offends?

Fuck that. He should feel uncomfortable. And the more men expect women to do this type of thing if they dare set foot in the ladies, the better. Let there be no expectation that women will be cowed into acquiescence and appeasement.

This ! 👏
