"The Spanish equivalent to Stonewall (FELGTB) has been fuming some days because of those military guys who changed their legal sex to female without doing anything else (and keeping beards, wives, everything!), because they were proving us feminists so right.

So finally FELGTB have decided to sue the military guys (who created an organisation called "Non Normative Trans People" (TNN in its Spanish acronym) for "fraud". But TNN have doubled down and said that they are going to sue FELGTB for transphobia, because no reason has to be given for changing your ID and the law says you can't be questioned."

How transphobic of FELGTB, who are they to gatekeep transness?!

I’m impressed with the army guy’s understanding of the arguments. He’s really doing a brilliant job and I don’t see how they can disagree with him without simultaneously dismantling the entire concept of gender identity.

Look, for all those people worrying about how to tell the difference between the genuine, sincere, most vulnerable people (FELGTB) and those horrid, selfish frauds (TNN), it's not difficult: just check the cologne they wear.

Got it! Six fingers on the right hand, or, if you prefer, five fingers and a thumb.

Polydactyly is proof that human fingers are not decimal, just as trans is proof that human sex is not binary.

But they won't be able to do that because it's so obvious when you start trying to define "being a woman" in terms of anything other than biological reality (e.g. parameters for clothing; hair, makeup, behaviour and tastes) that it's just sexism in diaguise and must be rejected. It's therefore impossible to have any definition that can't be exploited in exactly this way. These spanish lovely military ladies are top blokes for drawing attention to the total nonsensical mess this creates.

I don't want to derail the discussion and flatly refuse to make any connection between those recuperating from serious abdominal surgery and photoshopping photos but, apart from the five fingers and thumb on the right hand, has anyone else noticed the extra long fingertips on the left one. It's the inevitable consequence of elevating feelings over facts and then giving them legal recognition.

Policy-making on the basis of what seems like a good idea at the time ends in a culture war circle jerk.

But loads of countries have sex self-ID and there's no evidence of problems in any of them! Right?

There's definitely no evidence so long as you are careful to only look in places where there's no evidence, only listen to voices affirming that there's no evidence, and only say things that are in line with there being no evidence. Stick to those rules and everything is fine!

But they're ALL genuine!

There's enough deep seated misogyny just below the surface that most men would regard being a woman as a deliberate demotion/reduction in status that no one would actively choose and therefore they are ready to believe there's some kind of metaphysical difference between the "real" men vs those who could make such an incomprehensible choice

It's a great idea of course. If everyone is a woman it becomes much harder for actual women to name the problem.

Everyone should be a woman. Then the subcategory of woman who is disadvantaged in various ways physical, biological and societal due to being female should have certain protections under the law to ensure their equality, dignity and safety.
