Tras are trying to get JKR arrested.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/03/10/trans-activists-scottish-police-arrest-jk-rowling-crime/

https://archive.ph/5TEU4 highland fling yourself over the paywall, cos Scottish!

Thought to give IW a break.

The Hate Crime...crime(?) comes into force on 1st April, according to the article. The SNP has not engaged with any of the organisations who have expressed concerns and no-one knows what, if any, training the Police have been given.

Trans activists urge Scottish police to arrest JK Rowling over ‘misgendering hate crime’

Northumbria Police last week dismissed a complaint against the author over calling India Willoughby, a transgender TV personality, a male

He is! He's only just got out from doing time on the pan shelf with the PGTips monkeys after they got caught on cctv burgling the house the other summer

Glad to see you drink decent Yorkshire Tea.

I must be doing feminism wrong because I'm not a fan of biscuits except for the ones that you can eat with cheese.

SinnerBoy · 16/03/2024 11:46

I first tried Vegemite in about 1990, from Netto, when Neighbours* was all the rage; I really disliked it. Pale, soapy tasting pap.

I tried it again when I went to Australia and it was entirely different.

Yum! I need to buy some hot cross buns asap. DH insists on adding both jam and butter which I feel is over the top. Um, is that marmite on the fourth piece?

That onion cheese bean thing looks glorious and I'll also try that soon.

It might possibly accommodate some 'leftover beer' (but how can black sheep or old peculier ever be 'leftover'? Confused). Otherwise obviously beef casseroles.

Ok this rarebit is getting a bit excessive. I've now got to buy beer I wont drink to make rarebit, then beef to use up the beer. Can beer be frozen?
He who must never be obeyed drinks Guinness, can I convince him to give me a bit of that for rarebit? He hates cheese so he wont be eating it. I'd take his leftover Guinness but there never is any.

Sigh, it's all too complicated and I'm just going to go make a vanilla cake with real vanilla.

It was a toasted hot cross bun cut in half and two slices of toast with marmite. One slice had a bit more marmite on than the other one!

DialSquare · 16/03/2024 15:46

I eat the toast first as main breakfast/brunch then the hot cross bun for afters!

IcakethereforeIam · 16/03/2024 16:04

You could use the beer up in a slug trap, although the RHS says we're supposed to hug a sluggy. After what they did to my dahlias, I might hug them a little too hard.

Didn't Nigella make a chocolate cake with Guinness? Could beer be subbed for Guinness? Or vice versa?

I saw a newspaper review of HCBs, Asda's were rated the highest.

Hot cross buns are just the evil carriers of raisins/sultanas/currants

They can try to fancy up the evil things with poncy flavours (side eye at caramelised biscuit flavour) but still the evil remains.

I like raisins in cake or buns but definitely not in savoury dishes and when Revels changed the chocolate covered peanut to a raisin, I was fuming!

I loathe any sort of fruit in any sort of savoury dish.

When I was offered cranberry sauce one Christmas I just thought "Why the hell would you put jam on meat?"

Vesta boil in the bag curry.

IcakethereforeIam · 16/03/2024 16:51

Raisins, in fact most sweet fruits (obviously excepting tomatoes, cucumber, butternut squash, and the like) in savoury dishes* are the work of Hades himself.

First came across this in school dinner curry, still not entirely recovered.

*there's probably loads of other exceptions, peanut butter for one.

You are so right! I can't abide gammon and pineapple, pork and apple sauce, duck a l'orange etc. I did like a Norwegian elk steak, with redcurrant sauce, however

Childhood memories... I used to pick the raisins out. I actually like raisins, the best I had were huge black ones in Kazakhstan.

Food, glorious food - too many posts for me to catch up on, far too much to say about food in general, so best I skip over them.

Bit of JKR news in this thread I've just started about the next Cormoran Strike/Robin Ellacott book (#8) - The Hallmarked Man. She's been on Sark researching for it, so publication within the year, maybe by Christmas? Here's hoping. https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/what_were_reading/5029733-next-cormoranrobin-title-announced-8-no-publication-date-yet-autumn-this-year

I used this love the little crispy fried things that came with the Vesta chow mein.

Me too!! I make sure to have at least one Vesta chow mein a year for nostalgia’s sake 😁 I actually wish I could still buy some of their other dishes that I remember fondly from the 70s. They were also handy to have in the kitchen press for emergencies when I was a student.

Oh well umm the hedgehog might get pissed, and I think it's a she and pregnant or a veeeery fat Male. Probably a drunk hedgehog is a very bad idea no matter its sex.

But i can get behind HCBs, I have no care who makes the HCBs so long as it's not me, so whatever supermarket I'm in, I'll buy em.

Ooooh!

I didn't realise there was another half ready to br published.

I've just started "The Running Grave. (Only read first chapter). The friend who has lent it too me says it's excellent, an a very good twist at the end, so I'm very excited about it.

I'm not struck on Harry Potter, but I love Cormoran Strike.
