The Hate Crime...crime(?) comes into force on 1st April, according to the article. The SNP has not engaged with any of the organisations who have expressed concerns and no-one knows what, if any, training the Police have been given.

I read real books, not Kindle versions, not audiobooks, so it doubles up as a course of weightlifting. I thought The Running Grave was really excellent.

No - it's just like any natter with friends, the conversation tends to stray in unexpected directions.

And then if it's been going a while, people fancy a cuppa and a few nibbles.

I acknowledge that prunes can go where red wine goes, and apricots go in tagines, but other than that I am with you on fruit in savoury dishes being an abomination and doubly so on the jam with meat front.

Apple sauce and pork. Surely nobody dislikes that?

Pineapple on my pizza works though. Apple sauce with pork and whatever hell cranberry sauce is supposed to be should be made illegal though.

I feel conflicted slightly due to the whole pineapple and pizza thing.

Tomatoes are fruit, botanically, albeit not culinarily. How many of you weirdoes refuse to eat tomato-based savoury dishes, I wonder?

Ah, but how often do you eat your tomatoes with cream and sugar?

At the taste level tomatoes are vegetables. I don't blame them for being born the way they are, It isn't their fault.

I used to make tomato (& lemon) jam, having had it in France. I loved it. Then one day I decided it tasted weird.

Heinz tomato soup is largely tomatoes and sugar, with a bit of milk/cream chucked in.

Why have apple sauce on pork when you can have English mustard?

Why not both? Plenty of recipes out there for pork with apples, cream and mustard.

Glad that tagine was mentioned, so I stand with VitoCorleone. Any thoughts on mango chutney (and chutneys / relishes in general)?

You forgot to add the double portion of mushrooms to that pizza...

Apples should be in a pie and eaten with ice cream and/or custard.

I'm a little suspicious of fruity chutneys, so I don't try them except sometimes possibly as anonymous blobs on a ploughman's or cheese platter. Limited money and, especially, cupboard space means I probably won't take a punt on an unknown, not when there's piccalilli or onion marmalade.

I'm okay with mango chutney.
