I actually feel sorry for you all. From browsing this forum you all seem constantly distressed by perfectly normal everyday interactions, are permanently afraid and see everything as sinister. It must be an exhausting way to live.

Do you know who expressed concerns about Savile's behaviour? Women who trusted their instinct. Who benefits from women being told not to worry about children?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/03/2024 16:13

@ForCoralFox

Yes I do think most normal people would consider this scenario creepy. Why not do a quick vox pop in your local pub? You can post your answers here.

It's an insult to Savile's victims to mention him in this context.

She's not grooming him, she's supporting him.

It's really brave for Hollyoaks to do this in the current climate and I hope it has a positive impact on trans children.

I'm assuming sarcasm, but it's so hard to be sure these days

Yes, but that would be motivated solely by transphobia, not by the content of the clip.

ArabellaScott · 07/03/2024 16:15

You are saying 'most normal people' are transphobic?

Peskysquirrel · 07/03/2024 16:15

Shit, I've misplaced my bingo dibdabber thingie

Ramblingnamechanger · 07/03/2024 16:16

Just showed this to my female partner without preamble or context. Immediately she said “ what the hell is this clip about grooming being shown on? “ It is very clear to everyone bar one on this thread that this is what is happening. I would like to hope that someone intervenes and shows that this is wrong on all levels. I doubt that on channel 4 that it will.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/03/2024 16:16

@ArabellaScott

Goodness and I thought it was just us tiny few in this particular corner of the forum who were "transphobes"?

In no other situation would an adult male encouraging a 12 year old female child to keep secrets, and putting hands on her, be ok. It isn't ever ok.

Just watched the video now, and it doesn't say anything about keeping secrets at all 😕
In fact it says the opposite, that they'll support and to tell her mum

It's really not. Trans children are really under threat these days, possibly being prevented from accessing healthcare, social transitioning, maybe not even allowed to use the correct pronouns at school. With the current anti trans moral panic I'm glad that Hollyoaks have the courage to run with this, and hope some trans children are helped by it.

SinnerBoy · 07/03/2024 16:18

Hmm, most people think it's creepy and horrible, influencing young girls to confide in a man and keep it secret from her parents. That's a "co-ordinated response"?

I think that violates the principle of Occam's Razor

I think we have quickly established that you have very low boundaries yourself and you cannot recognise situations that are potentially harmful.

When someone has such low boundaries, they should not be lecturing others who have appropriate boundaries and recognise potentially harmful situations.

Peskysquirrel · 07/03/2024 16:19

Is this a good time to say there's no such thing a a "trans child" 🤔

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/03/2024 16:19

I'm not sure anyone should be enabling the merail yet again.

If I were making the argument that this was fine, I definitely would pick a different week to complain about children being protected from the ghoulish ministrations of WPATH influenced doctors.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/03/2024 16:20

I shouldn't have done so, apologies.

I think that you should be reading the current studies that show that the current healthcare protocols are not actually improving the lives of children. This also includes 'social transitioning' and use of pronouns.

BackCats · 07/03/2024 16:22

This is so disturbing.

The right answer when a teenager says “I am so sure” about anything is to let them know that teenagers often feel really convinced they will always have the same strong feelings, thoughts and priorities they do at the time and that it is okay to try things out and experiment without making permanent commitments; remind them that under eighteens are not allowed to have tattoos for a reason - otherwise there’d be an awful lot of adults walking around, embarrassed of their tattoos of their teenage crush or obsessions.

An older man asking a teenaged girl if she’s ‘sure’ about something is so dodgy.

I almost hope that Hollyoaks has realised what the truth of this situation is and are showing this deliberately so adults will see how fucking obscene it is for a grown man to groom a young girl in this way. It is hard to believe that anyone could have acted or filmed that and not realise it is grooming.

It is in plain sight.

Hopefully the media will also take up the horror show of the WPATH files and people will start joining the dots.

One day the shit will really hit the fan and people like you will have no choice but to see the reality of the harms you advocate for.

No, I think there are lots of transphobes out there but most of them were quite casually so, offensive jokes and the like, until there was a deliberate campaign to stir up a moral panic. I also think it will die down in time. As more trans, NB and gender non conforming people come out, and people realise they have nothing to fear, attitudes will soften.

I'd be surprised if, in 20 years time, many gender critical feminists will admit that they were one, once. It will be more convenient to forget.

DadJoke · 07/03/2024 16:24

It was bad writing (I mean, Hollyoaks) but, she said the child needed to stop truanting and tell mum before doing anything else. So, the opposite of "don't tell your parents." She then went straight home and told her parents.
