”yeah no problem keeping with this thread, it wasn't on my feed when I created mine, not trying to steal your thunder!”
I assumed a cross post as I know it takes a while to find and embed links. Your OP was better than mine, but others had already begun to reply, otherwise I’d have deferred to your thread.
But what strikes me in reading some of the images of WPATH discussions about mental illness is that these people are so embedded in their theory that “gender identity” is a factual, established thing and not a mental health issue that they can no longer see 1) a web of mental health issues, including delusions of gender and instead see 2) “trans people” who are (separately) mentally distressed or mentally ill.
I can’t tell if that’s because they are in such an echo chamber that they have truly lost sight of even the concept that these people they are treating are actually 1). The alternative: that they are deliberately pursuing this despite knowing 2) is unlikely to be true is too horrifying to contemplate.
But I suspect some of them must know. What becomes obvious when this material is released is that the vast majority of people can see that 1) is the most likely scenario and 2) is so far fetched as to immediately be suspect and scandalous.
I have heard it said that consent/negligence cases in the US are going to be very difficult because those carrying out these treatments were following WPATH guidelines and WPATH were considered to be offering the gold standard of care. I think this needs a really deep dive into how that happened as well as this current expose of the clinicians themselves.
