I think Terry Pratchett had inna book about the mugs of torturers

He did. A torturer with a Worlds's Best Grandad mug. I think it was Small Gods.

And Malcolm Clarke in the Critic, it's quite a ride (dolphin wanks)

https://thecritic.co.uk/all-roads-lead-to-wpath/

I wish he'd linked the studies he references on the apparent increase in suicide after gender affirming care.

This sentence leaps out of that article.

two recent studies in Denmark and Sweden suggesting suicide can be up to 7 times higher among those who undergo “gender affirmation surgery” than the general population.

There are just no words.

Britinme · 07/03/2024 13:58

Interesting that on Xitter I found lots of discussion of the WPATH files whereas on Threads the only reference I found was to Erin Reed's "debunking".

I think it was a World's Greatest Dad mug, sitting on the edge of the brazier/hearth thing where they heated up the pincers to keep the tea warm.

Death had a "World's Greatest Grandfather" mug in Thief Of Time.

Relevant current thread on a Hollyoaks storyline

Hollyoaks - well this is creepy! www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/5023387-hollyoaks-well-this-is-creepy

That debunking thread... did anyone actually see the 216 untruths? I kept looking for a list or edited/annotated document...

Britinme · 07/03/2024 14:48

It's linked on Threads but you need to search for WPATH I think - don't believe it's hashtagged.

PatatiPatatras · 07/03/2024 15:06

I've seen the tweet and followed the link but it was full of summaries. I couldn't find the detail of untruths to go through myself.

I can go through the leaks but from that tweet I can't pin point what is supposed to be untrue apart from believing the tweeter because he/she said do...

No. Erin was asked for a list of all 216 errors and said they couldn't provide one. Wonder why? 🤔

She's a clever queen @datun, definitely a well timed chess move.

Brilliant to see Janice acknowledge Reduxx. They have done fantastic work on this - the kind of work that journalists on the nationals should have been doing, but haven't. I hope one day when all this is over Reduxx, and Genevieve Gluck in particular, are recognised for their unstinting hard work and courage in exposing the evil of this ideology.

Absolutely, I think that's the first time I've seen Gluck et al 's work and reduxx mentioned in mainstream press.

And 4th wave now of course have been recording and reporting on this for years too.

@Rainbowshit

Erin's response reminds me of Fermat's Last Theorem.

I have a truly marvelous demonstration of this proposition which this margin is too narrow to contain.

Said Fermat, while providing no evidence of his proof...

Why is this a surprise?

When you promise a simple 'fix all solution' which says you change sex, when it does no such thing possible and the complication rates are through the roof, its hardly an unpredictable out come is it?

Emotionalsupportviper · 07/03/2024 15:49

Not so much of a surprise as tragically ironic.

The group which weaponises suicide, claiming that children will destroy themselves if they don't get hormones, surgery etc is actually the group espousing the ethos that makes suicide considerably more likely.

IcakethereforeIam · 07/03/2024 16:01

I have to say that as incontinence seems to be a common side effect of their gender affirming care WPATH leaks is a little on the nose.

RethinkingLife · 07/03/2024 16:58

Erin was asked and said it would have made the article too long.

What on earth is the Substack for if not to lay out the 'errors' and Reed's argument in excruciatingly forensic detail?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/03/2024 17:01

Well quite.

And given that this is an example of what Erin considers one of the most important "errors" to highlight, I suspect the other 215 will be equally laughable.

"it was too long for me to rebute lengthy, complex concerns that went into forensic detail"

Might as well say my attention span is too short, my attention to detail is too weak and my understanding of the issues raised is insufficient. It's all too hard for me.

I'd say something about puberty blockers and effects to brain but...

Yes. I found this one perplexing. It is clear that Read has no idea about the logic of the claim they are attempting to dispute. But having read their supposed rebuttal, and pointed out other errors too, I suspect that there is a very low bar for their credibility.

I have seen people call Read's work 'forensic'. I have had to laugh.

Helleofabore · 07/03/2024 18:27

However, one poster also posted this rebuttal.

https://www.assignedmedia.org/breaking-news/wpath-nothingburger-waste-of-time

by Evan Urquhart who dismisses everything without actually providing anything really to prove that it is in correct. In fact, horrifically. Urquhart dismisses the consent discussion on the video clip as clinicians discussing consent issues as a 'teaching aid'. It focused on 'far right' too and actually attempting to say that it was probably fake. And also that the people writing the posts that were redacted 'could be anyone' because it is easy to become a member of the forum.

Of course, Urquhart is a transitioned female and wrote a piece positing that the WiSpa incident was a hoax. (As well has written horrific sexual abuse tweets towards people that Urquhart disagrees with). Urquhart has form for writing that something is fake when they want to discredit it.

The issue is, I didn't see any evidence produced in this one. At least Read did try to counter the report even if the evidence Read posted didn't seem to fit the purpose that Read thought it did.

Actually Nothing: The Non-Starter Non-Story of the WPATH Files — Assigned

Assigned Media analyzed hundreds of forum posts by WPATH members under a microscope. We found that WPATH members created hundreds of boring forum posts.

RethinkingLife · 07/03/2024 19:06

I dissent from rebuttals being attributed to Reed or Urquhart when such rebuttals offer an absence of evidence to contradict or nullify the available evidence that is straight from the WPATH exchanges etc.. (That is setting aside Reed's limited attempt to rebut as that involves a misreading of the cited material.)
