Let's have that conversation, then.

'The best feeling in the world', eh?

ArabellaScott · 07/03/2024 12:32

I see a vulnerable young girl being coached by a great hulk of an older male.

Cancelledcurio · 07/03/2024 12:36

Yuck grooming

Helleofabore · 07/03/2024 12:40

This clip is really shocking. I cannot believe that they thought this was appropriate in any way.

Mollyollydolly · 07/03/2024 12:45

It's really shocking. How can they not see. Safeguarding in the bin.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/03/2024 13:27

It's so in plain sight shocking. Almost unbelievable. Who planted this story and scene? Has the whiff of the sea maidens.

Yuck grooming

Yes, it's so creepy, isn't it?

PickleC · 07/03/2024 13:51

But then this is Hollyoaks where a previous storyline had the 'classic' path of autistic girl to non-binary (again after a lot of coaching from a partner) and then to stating they were a boy with no worries expressed by anyone.

StephanieSuperpowers · 07/03/2024 13:59

That's an incredibly disturbing scene. How did no adult watching that suggest that maybe it wasn't a correct approach?

kittykarate · 07/03/2024 14:06

In recent years Hollyoaks has had a lot of trans/nb characters

  • We had Sally who arrived in town as headmistress, got sent to women's jail and was bullied by the mean ladies.
  • Phoenix transitions to a boy, after getting in a relationship with a non-binary character.
  • Kitty arrives, having stolen someone else's identity who died in a car crash. No-one mentions the elephant in the room that I've seen, and people are busy trying to fix them up with a male character Beau.

And now we have Kitty 'guiding' a teen girl through transition.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/03/2024 14:07

The actor who played "Sally" was a TRA, I think, no?

Oh, dear. Hollyoaks are getting questioned because the actor playing Rose may not actually be trans. The humanity!

It's very "in plain sight" isn't it?

Cosmosforbreakfast · 07/03/2024 14:38

Every parent's worst nightmare, a male grooming a young female child.

She's not grooming him, she's supporting him.

It's really brave for Hollyoaks to do this in the current climate and I hope it has a positive impact on trans children.

PickleC · 07/03/2024 14:44

Yes the Sally thing was incredible. Accused of murder and just fast-tracked to a women's prison - no questioning, no concerns, no understanding of how that would affect others

What makes you think this is a 'she'?

Is it the acting, the speech, the role or the dresses?

Unfortunately these tv shows are just after a spike in ratings. Responsibility doesn't come into it. Why else would they be glamourising an older male grooming a young female child? They don't care that trying to normalise grooming may make other children vulnerable to the very same thing.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/03/2024 14:58

In no other situation would an adult male encouraging a 12 year old female child to keep secrets, and putting hands on her, be ok. It isn't ever ok.

Won't someone please think of the people who might be pretending to be something they're probably not?

Leaving aside the misgendering, are men now not allowed to show children physical affection? And are 12 year olds expected to tell their parents everything?

Peskysquirrel · 07/03/2024 15:30

@ForCoralFox once again I am stunned that you said you once worked with at-risk children, when you come out with comments like that

This is not a professional context. From what I read, this person is a family friend. Family and friends are still allowed to show affection to children I believe.

What else are 12 year olds compelled to tell their parents? Their sexuality? Their crushes? All their friendship issues? The content of their dreams, like in The Giver?

Rainbowshit · 07/03/2024 15:42

That is astonishing. A decidedly creepy adult male getting very handsy with a female child in a darkened room, while encouraging her to keep secrets from her parents.

How can anyone see that as anything other than grooming?
