I’m so glad there is loud discussion of this issue. Here in Australia we get nothing. After the case of the axe wielding transwoman in the 7-11 papers stopped identifying people undergoing trial as trans.
There was a case where very young transwoman murdered a young man after meeting on Tinder. The transwoman’s defence was the psychological confusion caused by dysphoria, which was reported in very roundabout ways. It was all very confusing until the papers published a photo.

Jkr knows all transwomen are males, can therefore never be a 'woman'. Her saying that clearly is what people (rather than journos looking for a cheap 'story') are applauding.
I doubt she'd insist on all transwomen being called 'men' - so long as it's clear that they're males. That's what people are objecting to, the obfuscation with resulting confusion and this crime being touted as an example of 'women do it to'.

If Lisa Nandy believes that TWAW then she's dumber than I thought. Quite apart from anything else, TWAW is such a dreadful tautology. The statement itself makes no sense whatsoever because it's circular. If a TW is a W, then TW = W, so what Lisa Nandy is effectively stating is that W = W, which equals W. Which renders the TWAW statement totally unnecessary.

Not that I think she's stated it in so many words but if she did she wouldn't be wrong, would she?

All trans women are men though. I don't get why people get confused and think TWAW?! Am I in the twilight zone, or have people suddenly become very, very stupid and don't understand what words mean?!

@pirelli a very small number of people have convinced a lot of other people that words now have different meanings.

You have to be male to be a TW -by definition. A TW is a male who 'identifes' 'as' a woman. If you are already something you do not need to identify 'as' it.

It is impossible to change sex - no matter what body modifications one goes through; and don't forget that many trans -identified people don't do any body modifications at all - except grow their hair and wearing clothing stereotypical of the opposite sex.

But you know this already. Wanting to believe something is true - doesn't make it so.

Words are being used to confuse us. You only have to look at the number of people who were misled into thinking Scarlet Blake is a woman. Calling him a "transwoman" isn't massively clearer to most of the public. This is deliberate, so now rape crisis centres, for instance, or gynecology clinics, can say they only employ women staff, or gyms can say that changing rooms are only for women, and no-one really knows what kind of "women" they are talking about.

"The Times" reported 'it' as she, with a vague reference to previous status and going to male nick.
So I have sent them a note hoping to be picked for the letters page.
I have also enquired of the Press Complaints organisation (a friend is there) about making a complaint about both Times and their reporting and Metro about their attack on JKR.
