JK Rowling has sadly opened her mouth again

How the metro can put out this tweet which effectively suggests a woman shouldn't be allowed to speak is beyond me. Shocked but not surprised. Comments are heartening though, as is the ratio.

News headline - woman says a man is a man

That about sums it up. Sub heading:

Woman says man who has abused and threatened her for years is a man - male politician expresses 'solidarity' with said man.

SabrinaThwaite · 04/03/2024 19:04

No wonder someone is a bit tetchy today.

Brava Joanna Cherry!

And it was mentioned on the thread! Right here and screenshot.

Can I suggest that you actually research the person you leap to defend before doing so? Unless your aim is purely to scold women who disagree with you. Mind you, if you have not read Willoughby’s Twitter and understood that this is an abusive male person, maybe you don’t quite understand the nature of abuse.

How odd that Falafels spent a lot of time saying to people earlier on this thread 'Are you on Twitter? Have you read JKR's latest tweets?' and thereby implying that Falafels was fully up to speed with them, and yet Falafels has somehow to miss the extremely salient point that IW has had a visit from the police about tweeting about wanting to kidnap JKR and Joanna Cherry.

I know! The hypocrisy is stark. But unsurprising.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/03/2024 08:34

I've never been able to understand why anybody took IW's views seriously again after this incident eight years ago. https://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/transgender-star-inidia-willoughby-branded-9380721
Excerpt:
'Transgender star India Willoughby has been met with an online backlash after suggesting that women should shave their legs. The broadcaster, 51, who was born Jonathan, was the first trans woman to become a panelist on BBC Radio 4's all-female talk show Woman's Hour. She was chatting with host Jenni Murray and fellow guest, Sunday Times editorial director Eleanor Mills about the Dorchester hotel's new policy, which says female employees must shave their legs even when wearing tights, wear discreet make up and never have oily skin. When asked by Jenni how she would have reacted if she'd been required to shave her legs when living as a man, India said: "What a bizarre question, Jenni. Why would I shave my legs when I was living as a man?" When Jenni said that that was exactly her point, India added: "I think if you've got a job in a five-star luxury hotel as a female or a man then certain grooming standards are expected, and I think for women the expectation is that you do look clean. Personally, I wouldn't like to be served by someone with hairy legs, grubby nails, dishevelled hair and looking a bit worse for wear. I think it's fair enough." Eleanor's jaw reportedly "dropped" at India's comments, and she said: "Well it reminds me of that old joke, why do women need to wear perfume and make up? Because they're ugly and they smell. That's certainly what the Dorchester seem to think about their female employees."

@SabrinaThwaite posted a screenshot of this tweet at 1904 yesterday on this very thread, so Falafels didn't even need to look at Twitter.

Sorry. Cross posted Gaspode.

I am sure that I will get another lecture about something being ‘not on’ for expecting someone scolding others to have done the research before posting to make sure they hadn’t missed something. Or … maybe some posters have fallen into a habit of thinking they must be right simply because they believe they are part of the righteous group so anything that women who are disagreeable say must be wrong. Rather a prejudiced view but there it is.

Well that and the ‘I am a real woman, let that penetrate!’ rant.

SomeCatFromJapan · 05/03/2024 08:43

I find it quite remarkable that pointing out a fact is deemed in certain quarters to be worse than threatening to kidnap three women.

Over the years, IW has made racist, misogynist and homophobic statements that frankly would be several bridges too far for even the likes of people like Laurence Fox, yet IW gets a free pass time and time again, for some reason. I wonder what that reason could be?

Sorry Sabrina. I missed tagging falafels.

@NoMoreFalafelsForYou

This is where Sabrina posted the screenshots. I posted at 6 am this morning. After you had been posting numerous times.

Either you didn’t do your own research, or you had and couldn’t recognise the abusive nature that is clear in Willoughby’s tweeting for numerous reason, or your default is to deflect your embarrassment at being caught. Or you believe that all women should show respect to any male person who declares that they are a woman and demands language change to suit that demand.

Or any combination including all four.

Yeah, because seeing the last couple of days Twitter is totally the same as knowing everything anyone has ever said on there, and the context behind it too. 🙄

I don’t believe that is a convincing case falafels. Just deflection.

BezMills · 05/03/2024 08:55

IW has done more for raising awareness than most. I am, sadly, now quite aware of what a nasty piece of work IW is, and that's thanks to IW's own public statements on the twitters. Thanks to IW for raising my awareness. A tragic and pitiful figure in some ways, but IW is very useful and I hope IW continues to show us who IW is, for a long long time.

I don't know, to me it just looks as though you're deflecting, ignoring Willoughby's unbelievable bigotry and public death and kidnap fantasies, while complaining that JKR referred to Willoughby, an adult human male, as a man. I wouldn't say you're even arguing by assertion because you aren't actually asserting anything. To paraphrase the discussion with you:

"Now everyone can see what JKR really is!"

"What's that, then?"

"If you can't see it, we must agree to disagree!"

"Agree to disagree on what? What are you saying?"

"Willoughby! JKR bad! Willoughby! Twitter and contexts! Stuff!"

That's what I see.

NoMoreFalafelsForYou · 05/03/2024 08:23

Where on the thread was that mentioned? Or are you doing that weird thing again where you think everybody knows everything all of the time just because you yourself do? 🙄
No, that's not OK either bore.

Tell me you didn’t actually read the thread before piling in without telling me you didn’t actually read the thread.

It seems some posters believe that this should be so.

I remember a poster who once made fun of a women of colour’s fake tan. But that poster has continued to deny they did this and posts regularly about how racist others are. The hypocrisy of some people’s, including Willoughby’s, stances is very clear once you start remembering what has been posted over time. What is consistent though is their determination to be seen as kind and tolerant.

I remember that poster. That poster went on to defend this racist post by Willoughby, including how Willoughby insinuated that Esther only had her career because she was black.

Panic?.About what?
Yes, it is showing.
As in it's showing that it's not just about "reasonable concerns" at all.
The tweets on Twitter today against her (India, that is) that I've seen where prominent names quote tweet each other to say "man!" smacks of nothing but a pile on and reminds me of Mean Girls especially when it emboldens everyone else to come out and pile on too.
It's honestly 🙄😢 and I'm not even trans.

I cannot quite work out how a poster can claim that they are not up on what has been posted on Twitter over the past few days and yet have posted this. Discussing what tweets Willoughby has been receiving against Willoughby. Including ‘quote tweets’.

Something is really not adding up here.

People who attack women's rights don't care about the rights of gay people or ethnic minorities either.

SHOCKER

IW can’t conceive (all puns intended) of the fact that women don’t have to conform
to IW’s reductive and misogynistic view of what a woman should look like.

Here’s IW from 3 days ago - women with short hair are men?

Any middle aged white man who posted the same as IW on twitter would have been cancelled by everyone years ago.

The level of protection provided by being trans really is astonishing
