Disclosure of non binary pronouns leads to less favourable employer response

It seems most employers have not embraced the TQ despite their corporate virtue signalling. Recruiting managers are giving the They/Thems a swerve.

I had an NB client once. Lovely them. Sweet and giggly and excited for thems school leaving prom. It was quite an experience fitting a strapless dress to theys boobs. Them wanted them to look good as thems boyfriend (also nb) was taking them to prom and them was really looking forward to it. They was borrowing thems Dad's car for the night, which was a treat as thems car wasn't as fancy as theys Dads.

Surely calling an enbie a “boyfriend” is wrongly attributing them with a gender that they don’t identify with and is therefore transphobic.

Maybe a “themfriend”?

One might believe so. However, this one has a business to run, so she just smiled at they and told they how lovely them looked and how she hoped thems would have a wonderful prom.

Then this one had herself a nice cuppa tea and a long lie down in the dark.

At least in a few years when reality returns to their lives they'll have nice prom photos!

I'm sorry that you think that having zhey/zhem pronouns is a protected characteristic. Perhaps you should widen your reading from Pink News and Bunty

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 01/02/2024 23:56

What did Bunty do to be coupled with Pink News?!

The magazine died a slow lingering death in 2001. Probably fortunate. Otherwise one of the Four Marys would have transitioned, to pull in the readers.

SinnerBoy · 02/02/2024 06:30

I thought I'd written Beano...

I asked after a friend’s daughter and was told they have changed clubs and they do this and they do that. For various reasons to do with the plural nature of ‘this’ and ‘that’, I was completely unable to understand what had been said.
It sounded as though the club had done various things, and didn’t seem to be about the girl at all.
I had to sink to the ‘nod, smile, that’s nice’ response which is a massive ‘fuck you’ to real friendship I feel.

I’m dreading the day they become he.

Psychoticbreak · 02/02/2024 08:06

I see they/them or he/she etc on a CV and it goes straight in the shredder.

Baldieheid · 02/02/2024 08:37

Yes, it's the incomprehensible nature of any conversation that makes me switch off. The sheer self absorption that is required in order to need everyone around you to speak with you 3x longer than needed just to understand what you mean is EXACTLY why I can't see myself ever wasting my time on a they/them candidate. Client, yes, I'll play along. Thems money is as good as anyone else's. I may add my pita percentage, however.

Beano has still got a great subversive streak. I'd be really sad and surprised if they fell for this shite.

I don't support discrimination, on protected characteristics or otherwise. Or making sweeping judgements about groups of people.

When does learning from experience become discrimination? Genuine question.

MrsTwatInAHat · 02/02/2024 09:49

I’m dreading the day they become he.

I’ve seen this happen in a lot of cases, including people I know, know of/kids of friends and people on social media. Girls or women become “NB” then “transmasc” then “a trans man” like they’re on a conveyor belt. The way it escalates suggests it’s not about your “true self” but about keeping on needing more renewed validation or a further escape from the self each time it becomes apparent that the new identity hasn’t solved all your problems.

it’s also interesting that transactivists/genderists are not keen on detransitioners changing their minds but it’s fine to change your mind as much as you like as long as you’re becoming more trans.

The likelihood is high that someone who identifies as “NB” will continue to change their identity and demand everyone keep up. I wonder if some employers’ concern is that they’re worried about their valued less woo-brained staff making a mistake or refusing to play along or daring to roll their eyes, and being persecuted/reported/sued.

I really just meant "A Generic Comic." As in the saying, "Do you get your news from the Beano?"

Beanophobia? How narrow minded of you. I find Beano news more reliable than the guardian these days.

SabrinaThwaite · 02/02/2024 13:48

Mind you, they’re halfway there with the Bottom Inspectors …

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 02/02/2024 14:00

I never liked the regular strips in the Dandy, so you can impugn that with my blessing.

There's also Girl Talk. I loved that magazine at the time, but they ran a regular Jim'll Fix it feature, which leads me to doubt the editorial team's professional judgement.

SinnerBoy · 02/02/2024 14:45

Dons sackcloth

IcakethereforeIam · 02/02/2024 14:57

Well Pink News and the Beano is arguably a bit of a tautology. Although one has poorly written nonsense stories, with little relation to reality and then there's the Beano (a far superior publication).
