The pope says 'gender theory' causes divisions

'Peace requires respect for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Attempts to introduce new rights, which are not always acceptable, lead to instances of ideological colonization that create divisions rather than fostering peace, as in the case of gender theory.'

It’s interesting that prawn’s response to a comment from the pope about gender ideology fostering divisions is to… demonstrate that by fostering division and generally being antagonistic.

I’m with the people wondering how exactly we got to the position where politics and debate is so skewed that anyone, including the pope, saying pretty bland and ordinary things seems like it’s radical.

None of this is indicative of those positions being inherently ‘conservative’ or ‘right wing’. It’s more like the world having gone so weird that activists are trying to position you as evil right wing nightmares for agreeing with the pope when he asserts the earth is round.

Yes, we must all be good meek women and agree with the pope. I apologise for being unladylike enough to have my own opinion.

soupycustard · 16/01/2024 19:57

So I think I've got it: gender identity is a feeling. I'm a woman and I can't know how all women feel so I can't have a gender identity unless it's the gender of a specific woman.
But a man can have a feeling that he is a woman without it being a specific woman because it's a feeling and he has a gender identity that is womanfeely.
Glad I've cleared that up.

Just checking, Prawn, you would agree with the pope that the earth is round?

Hepwo · 16/01/2024 20:00

PrawnLiberationFront · 16/01/2024 19:53

Oh ok so "echo chamber" is also a concept that you don't understand. Sorry, I really must remember not to assume you all understand simple concepts.

An "echo chamber" is a place where everyone agrees with each other and reinforces each other's prejudices and continuously repeats the same information. It's very comforting to spend time in one because it's full of people telling you how right and clever you are, but the problem of course is misinformation gets amplified and repeated, you never get challenged or meet other perspectives, and prejudices become entrenched.

I'm certainly not being echoed with here.

We are quite enjoying your amusing contortions.

Both gender ideology and patriarchal religion are not for me

I thought gender ideology WAS a patriarchal religion?😉

fedupandstuck · 16/01/2024 19:59

Just checking, Prawn, you would agree with the pope that the earth is round?

I was not aware that it was the pope's original research that established this.

fedupandstuck · 16/01/2024 20:02

So, no, then? Ok...

Hepwo · 16/01/2024 20:03

PrawnLiberationFront · 16/01/2024 19:55

It's interesting how you only seem to be able to argue by attributing statements to me that I haven't made. It's almost like you're actually arguing with a straw man.

Even better, im enjoying your amusing waffle about non universal authentic feelings.

True

WolfFoxHare · 16/01/2024 20:05

A man can’t know he’s a woman any more than I can know I’m a giraffe or my husband can know he’s a 89 year old trapped in the body of a 48 year old. It’s literally impossible. You can’t change sex, and gender is a construct made up from a patchwork of stereotypes and societal expectations.

ArabellaScott · 16/01/2024 20:05

Clearly the pope was wrong. Here we all are discussing the subject with no division or ill feeling at all!

I think you may have defined "authentic".

We could be wrong. We await further explanation from the prawn.

Yes, as I said, it's nice to be in an echo chamber, I can understand your reluctance to leave it.

Why are you putting "authentic" in quotes? I don't think that's a term I've used. Authentic what?

fedupandstuck · 16/01/2024 20:09

So the fact of the matter depends on who states it? If the pope says it, you won't agree but if Brian Cox (physicist, not actor) says it then you would concur?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/01/2024 20:09

Yes, I'm sure you're used to it. Sadly everyone can have their say here, as you are doing now.

No, I'm saying I don't really understand why you've gone off on a silly tangent about whether the earth is round or what it's relevance is. If I said I believed the earth was round, would this suddenly prove something about trans people? You seem to think so, so please enlighten me as to what, I know you're dying to.

Catholics are not historically famous for being proponents of science.

I think there have been a few reputable catholic scientists actually.

Copernicus, Galileo..there's even a society of catholic scientists.

fedupandstuck · 16/01/2024 20:13

I'm sure you must realise that people are drawing analogous arguments and attempting to see if you, Prawn, can make the same responses. As a method of clarifying what is being discussed.

Hepwo · 16/01/2024 20:13

PrawnLiberationFront · 16/01/2024 18:28

But there is no single experience of "what a female feels". There's no universal internal or external experience that is experienced by all women or only women. So which particular female would they have to feel like in order to feel like a woman in a way that would be authentic to you? That isn't something that's quantifiable.

Here you go prawn.

Here's where you requested a worldwide search for an "authentic" female.
Which does not exist quantifiably, according to you.

Ampère? Roger Bacon? Mendel?
