Another reason not to vote Labour :(

MotherEarthisaTerf · 19/12/2023 16:01

Then in 2018 I really started noticing this wave of transphobia creeping in. It was being dressed up in the language of feminism, and women’s rights and even lesbian rights when we know that lesbians are more supportive of trans rights than any other demographic. It was an unholy alliance being made between people who call themselves feminists and the Trumpian Right.

I wonder why in 2018 people started to become more critical around transgender issues? It’s a head scratcher. Probably due to American fascists of course

I wonder if she's ever sat down and discussed this topic with someone who disagrees with her.

MotherEarthisaTerf · 19/12/2023 16:08

when people are ignorant, it’s because people feel like they have learned enough. They are unwilling to change their minds or listen to other people because they think their opinion is the right one. To move it forward we need people to be willing to learn,

she’s almost got the point …

I've always thought that Nadia is far too young to be an MP. She doesn't have the life experience needed to view issues from different perspectives.

RoyalCorgi · 19/12/2023 16:20

She is very far from being the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Fenlandia · 19/12/2023 16:20

I'm sure the good people of Nottingham East talk of little else than "queer liberation".

RoyalCorgi · 19/12/2023 16:27

To state the obvious, Nadia Whittome is one of those people who can't get beyond "Right wing people support this idea, right wing people are bad, therefore this idea is bad." She has no grasp of the arguments involved and wouldn't last five minutes in debate with someone like Helen Joyce.

DrivingonIce · 19/12/2023 16:31

'Right wing people support this idea, right wing people are bad, therefore this idea is bad."

And also, "Any leftwing people supporting this idea are automatically reclassified as right wing".

Not sure I agree with this - if we keep the HoC only for mature people we’ll miss an opportunity to learn from, and better support generations who will be building our economy and paying for the services.

She is just a kid though. Whereas Naomi Wolf..

Sometimes I think those conspiracy nuts are right. Something in the water.

Abhannmor · 19/12/2023 16:36

Good point @DrivingonIce

TeenagersAngst · 19/12/2023 16:39

I don't think age should matter - I hear extremely well-educated, sensible people in their 20s and 30s on podcasts all the time. Older people can be closed-minded and ignorant just as much as young people.

pickledandpuzzled · 19/12/2023 16:39

Fascinating. I loathe trump and Boris and was shocked at their popularity. Also loathe the transing of children and the invasion of women’s spaces- sports, prisons, awards categories and yea toilets.

All at the same time. I’m a massively deep and complicated person, me. Must be the duplication of XX.

teawamutu · 19/12/2023 16:39

Silly, self-righteous child.

I'd be far more tolerant of her idiocy if she wasn't an actual fucking legislator.

HermioneWeasley · 19/12/2023 16:40

She’s awful - really thick and smug.

ArthurbellaScott · 19/12/2023 16:40

Age shouldn't matter, but when I look at the most recent Babes of the house ....

Mhairi Black
Nadia Whittome
Lloyd Russell Moyle ...

Cancelledcurio · 19/12/2023 16:43

Aw Labour ... we used to have women like Clare Short, Barbara Castle and Maria Fyfe. Now we have Nadia...
Yes, I agree with a PPer, she is too young. There are people her age who could be very good MPs( ex care leavers with life experience, young person who was a carer, single parent mum who went on to have a career etc but Nadia is not that person.

ArthurbellaScott · 19/12/2023 16:51

'Nadia: I thought this question was gonna be really awkward because I thought I’d be like, wow, there’s this thing that you did, that thing that was huge and I loved it and you’d be like, oh, yeah, no, I learned about you this morning'

CrossPurposes · 19/12/2023 17:05

"I also think that with a lot of transphobes, some of them are just so blinded by hate that I don’t think it’s a good use of queer people’s time to be having those arguments with them. Instead, it is really important to unapologetically be yourself and have unmoderated, queer joy."

No debate just have joy.

I'm not sure I agree. Young people have become over-lionised in recent times, I think. But youthful idealism and inexperience don't lend themselves to practical policy making or to understanding a wide range of perspectives.

We have lots of very young councillors in my city. They all came in with Jeremy Corbyn; and all they seem interested in is twitter and those national issues that align with intersectionalist type politics. They have no interest in the more mundane local issues. I have no confidence in them being able to take big decisions which impact upon whole communities.

MagpiePi · 19/12/2023 17:15

‘Dressed up’ as women’s and lesbian rights? Really? No legitimate concerns there then?
Do we actually know that lesbians are more supportive of trans right, or is it just assumed that they’ll roll over and be compliant handmaidens?

DewHopper · 19/12/2023 17:29

Good grief - she is just so...stupid...horrible to say this but it's true. I cannot vote Labour in the forthcoming election, just can't do it.

Imnobody4 · 19/12/2023 17:29

She like Angela Raynor have worked as care workers. I'd really like them to state clearly whether the elderly and vulnerable have the absolute right to a same sex carer.
