Suzanne Moore's latest is a corker on this specific and wider subject

Can't remember if we can do archives?

A PP mentioned Poulton's inappropriate Pinterest jokes. Someone has made a screenshot of the others. Quite remarkable for someone who wants to be an MP:

Blimey, if that "joke" about raping children isn't enough to have him drummed out of public life, I despair.

Whatever happened to Madigan? Did his political career not amount to much in the end?

There were accusations of sexual harrassment from fellow female students at University, and it then all went quiet on the Madigan front.

pickledandpuzzled · 12/12/2023 12:57

@DerekFaker Madigan wasn’t Notts.

This was an older man much more reminiscent of #maninawig
It’ll come back to me…

Helleofabore · 12/12/2023 13:01

It also shows completely how inadequate the parties are around advising their candidates to not bring the party into disrepute.

Surely no political candidate thinks sissy porn is going to win them votes? Do these candidates need to be hand held to make decisions that the majority of the population would consider common sense about what is appropriate for social media presence for a candidate?

Or is this just shining a huge spotlight on this ridiculous mantra of ‘bring your whole self to work’ as being something that society accepts? In other words, does the Green Party honestly think the voting public is going to vote for a male with a clear addiction to sissy porn and making misogynist comments and paedophilic like jokes?

This appointment as a candidate has shown just how far some political parties have gone in acceptance. Somehow, I don’t think it will be a vote winner.

MrsTwatInAHat · 12/12/2023 13:15

Blimey, if that "joke" about raping children isn't enough to have him drummed out of public life, I despair.

Totally - it's not what I would call "inappropriate", it's completely disgusting and unambiguously declaring an interest in sex with children. It's not even a sick joke that you can kind of get why it's meant to be funny - it's literally a joke that only has any function at all if you're a paedophile. Anyone responsible for letting this guy work with children should be suspending him immediately and no political party in their right mind should have anything to do with him.

MrsTwatInAHat · 12/12/2023 13:22

And the news stories are about other people's shock horror "transphobic" remarks about Poulton, and not about Poulton's paedophilic post!

just 🤯

VelociraptorVal · 12/12/2023 13:24

NC to comment

There's a huge area of safeguarding around conduct, appropriate behaviour and staff culture (do staff feel able to challenge anything they feel is problematic or do they fear bullying and reprisal) following what happened at Little Teds nursery. And that was a female abuser.

Viner's conduct online doesn't communicate much awareness given he's a safeguarding lead, and the Green Party is certainly not a party where women can raise issues around boundaries and importance of sex based spaces (REALLY important in the care / disability sector) without reprisal.

Over and over and over again this is happening and too many are allowing it unchecked.

DerekFaker · 12/12/2023 13:29

Just a FYI, Glinner has a new section on his Substack relating to safeguarding, and whistleblowers are invited to contribute.

There was a copper jailed for 20 weeks for a jokey Facebook post which was racist. The full story is in the punch a terf thread. This guy's 28 yo 'joke' is vile. Worse, considering his position, than the copper's imo.

RoyalCorgi · 12/12/2023 13:52

On the subject of Madigan, K Carnelian did a Twitter thread a few months ago where it turned out she'd misidentified a picture of Madigan as Sarah Jane Baker. But it's not clear where the picture of Madigan came from:

Apart from that, Madigan seems to have very little internet footprint these days. Ditto Jess/Josh Bradley, of whom there is no reference after 2018 - my guess is Bradley has undergone a name change.

I like words, I like using words but I am honestly groping to find some that adequately expresses my horror that a cross dressing male fetishist who is quite open about using forced feminisation porn and tells jokes about raping children is a safeguarding lead.

And has the fucking nerve to go on the defensive when people take one look at him and realise he's a walking red flag.

This is where this ideology gets you.

Acceptance without exception, remember?

viques · 12/12/2023 14:01

Someone ought to tactfully mention to Melissa that maybe buying one decent wig would be more effective than buying a shed load of cheap dressing up box wigs none of which fit.

MrsTwatInAHat · 12/12/2023 14:20

I don't mean to let this particular unsavoury individual off the hook, but I do agree this crazy concept of "acceptance without exception" of apparently all sexual inclinations and "trans" identities, is obviously going to give the green light to some very dodgy people indeed, and possibly also to some people who aren't fully mentally well or capable. It's actually not OK to splurge your personal fetishes and perversions (or even the most vanilla of sexual preferences in fact) all over other people's boundaries and in contexts like work, being a public servant/elected representative, when working wth children, and so on. But the "queer" movement is telling people that it is, and some of those people will massively take advantage of it to get a thrill/other benefits, and others who are more naive may just believe it and act accordingly. It's such a shit show.

I may sound like Mary Whitehouse but I remember when paedophilia was kind of a no-no.

I’m not sure that his aim is to make even a half decent attempt at womanning.

Just donning offensive costumes and crying transphobe when challenged.

Yes.

There are very concerning red flags here about such an individual deliberately placing themselves in positions of authority and perceived positions of safety.

If someone is a safeguarding lead, the general public's interpretation of that is someone who knows their stuff and is really safe.

This is one summary of little teds; I've also had training that described a culture of fear to challenge Vanessa George and those in authority. Worth reading to the end, she made increasingly inappropriate sexualised comments.

WarriorN · 12/12/2023 14:42

This around the setting culture - is this an appropriate culture for children with send to be in? Are boundaries clear? Is conduct appropriate?

Settings that have a woolly understanding of this from the top down are not safe places for children.

That looks like an old photo from a talk Madigan gave years ago.

I don't know, Datun. I find that when this subject comes up in a work context I have to tiptoe around people's sensitivities. What will be the professional implications for me if I say the wrong thing? The ridiculous element of it is that I believe a lot of people agree with me but are also afraid to say anything. If just one of us had the courage to say "The emperor is naked" (or "This is a man in a wig") then I feel the dam might burst.

Unfortunately I think it will take much more than one person standing up. In the public sector organisation I work in, if anyone said anything like that I'm certain that they'd be thrown to the wolves while everyone else looks away. Something similar has already happened - calls for a senior person to be disciplined for "transphobia" - IIRC all they did was say that single sex spaces should exist in some circumstances. Senior management kept very quiet.
In places like this where it's the culture now, I think it will be some time before there's a change. This movement has succeeded in getting activists into positions of power.
