I'm wondering, even if you are a staunch lefty..... would revoking the GRC persuade you to vote conservatives?

I recall some years back a petition to ask the government to debate the issues around genderism. Well it happened this week - Kemi Badenoch led it. Refer to the thread here. One of the things she said, was the government had been remiss. She is trying to fix it. https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4957804-kemi-badenoch-statement-re-grc-recognition-61223?page=11

She is motivated on this. We need women to stand up, which many braver ones do

Duffield has tried but LGBT Labour have tried to squash that

Falkner too has made a stand, almost taken out by her captured institution

TRAs fight very hard and many institutions are captured. I fear a switch at GE and no challenge left, but I guess we’ll see what happens

SidewaysOtter · 09/12/2023 21:25

Yes.

I voted Tory in 2010 and felt hugely let down that they dropped the touchy-feely “Look, we’ve got a green scribbly tree as a logo” thing and embraced austerity. I swore I’d never vote Tory again and have voted Labour ever since.

But Labour have sold women down the river and on that alone I will not vote for them. Their endemic anti-semitism and failure to condemn the 7th Oct attacks are just the pissy cherry on a very shitty cake.

So yes, I’ll vote Tory. And the posters who bundle onto these threads to scold us and tell us why we women are wrong to vote as we do can fuck right off.

WomensRightsRenegade · 09/12/2023 21:50

I would vote for any party that was going to repeal the GRC. Yes there are lots of other very important issues - but one has to ask why Labour can’t prioritise those instead of men who want to violate safe spaces for women, and obliterating women’s rights.

I don’t know how any woman can vote Labour while Keir Starmer refuses to meet Rosie Duffield, and even refuses to condemn rape and death threats against her. That is psychotic misogyny and/ or cowardice.

TempestTost · 09/12/2023 22:47

Unfortunately none of the parties, at least in the HoC, seemed to catch on about what a problem the GRA was until fairly recently. Gender ideology has really only blown up into the public sphere, where people see what is going on, in the last 5 years. It was spreading its tentacles but the public was largely unaware, as were most MPs.

So it's a little odd to suggest that any party could have taken action much before that. It would have been great but no one seems to have been really conscious of where it was going except a few thoughtful individuals, mostly in the HoL.

Since it's started to become an issue, Labour and the Tories have differentiated themselves pretty clearly. We know what policies Labour has been recommending. Had they been in power there is every reason to think they would have put them through, just like in other places with more left governments. They've clearly and continuously tried to squash even discussion of this within the party for goodness sake.

I get why people might want to vote for them because they prefer their policies on other issues. But the idea that somehow they are in the same place on gender ideology, I really don't know how anyone could make that claim.

I don't see gender as a left-right issue, although people try to shoehorn it into that dichotomy.

It isn't. If you look at the GC feminists who have fought and spoken out most and lost most, they are mostly left wing.

Passepartoute · 10/12/2023 00:02

I certainly wouldn't ever vote Conservative in the foreseeable future.

FatFatMary · 10/12/2023 00:08

So it looks like mumsnet is mostly labour voters. Wonder what that’s about

When the country is in an economic depression and one party have been in power for so many years, it is pretty normal for people to want a change of government.

TempestTost · 10/12/2023 00:14

I think MN might lean that way somewhat though even without that. It would be interesting to see the demographics of users, that might clarify why that might be.

FatFatMary · 10/12/2023 00:28

I’ve read the user base tends to be middle class, same question really why is that

I don't think it's particularly a Labour voter thing. It's an anti Tory thing, which isn't surprising when you realise that most people in the UK do not vote Tory at all. And now, in 2023, they've managed to piss off tradional Tory supporters along with all the floating voters.

It's particularly not surprising on a feminist forum.Grin

FatFatMary · 10/12/2023 00:30

most people people in the UK don’t vote Tory but we have a Tory government ?

Yes.

Well that’s very screwed up

TooBigForMyBoots · 10/12/2023 00:34

Where are you from @FatFatMary?

FatFatMary · 10/12/2023 00:37

@TooBigForMyBoots I’m Irish

More likely to have time for internet forums than poorer people? And less likely to have expensive fun things to bide their time than rich people?

FatFatMary · 10/12/2023 00:53

@TempestTost makes sense

Sorry, I make a point not to give much identifying info online in case irl people I know put it all together and recognise me. I do know it’s maybe a bit paranoid lol

TooBigForMyBoots · 10/12/2023 01:35

Around 32 million people voted in the 2019 GE.
14 million of them voted Tory.

FatFatMary · 10/12/2023 02:04

So voting for nationalist parties instead of labour really does make a significant difference in the outcome of elections
