Someone asks "does she agree there's no place for a genderbread person in schools?" 👏

Discussion continues about primary schools - no space for the theory there, no child should be transitioning there.

Clear schools of dubious RSE content with no basis in biology or law

Rightsraptor · 06/12/2023 15:07

What was Chris Bryant so upset about? The cheering I heard (including from me) was in response to KB's comment about Stonewall not making the law.

I thought Bryant's emotional response was highly manipulative.

KB was on fire indeed.

Froodwithatowel · 06/12/2023 15:07

Comparing KB with GK's 'I'm nice, this is nice, we're all nice' waffle to Nick Fletcher - both of them speaking this morning - you can see the conflict plain in the Tories.

The ones who'd like to handwring and mutter and 'yes ok there are issues but we can't do anything and it's not nice to mention them, and a bit of nice non compulsory waffle will help (but definitely not do anything in case certain people and lobbies are upset by it)'

against the Nick Fletchers and Kemis going 'this is batshit, it has to stop right now and if the law prevents that then the law must be changed'.

WarriorN · 06/12/2023 15:09

do we think that the MPs were given qs to ask Kemi so she can talk about it...

I feel like it's all the most frequently discussed fwr points all in one glorious swoop!

So much on schools ...

WarriorN · 06/12/2023 15:11

is it Christmas jumper day?

crochetandshit · 06/12/2023 15:12

Gah I've been at work, is there a link so I can listen later please?

nauticant · 06/12/2023 15:18

Alternatively, click on the side panel marked INDEX and scroll down to the marker at 13:46:53 and click on that.

As mentioned in the Q+A - the UK has fallen to 17 in the 'European league of LGBT rights'

Had not heard of this before - this appears to be it

Country Ranking | Rainbow Europe (rainbow-europe.org)

It is not obvious how the percentages are calculated

Wiki says that Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, Ecuador, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta, New Zealand, Norway, Pakistan, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and Uruguay all have self id so that seems to answer a large part of that question

WarriorN · 06/12/2023 15:29

Rainbow Europe is made by ILGA-Europe, the European Region of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans & Intersex Association.

Wonder if there is a site about countries ranking on Women's rights as judging by New Zealand's treatment of KJK they wouldn't rank so highly.

EasternStandard · 06/12/2023 15:52

Any ranking that places self id at the top will massively advantage men’s rights over women’s

We need a pro women ranking not anti women

nauticant · 06/12/2023 14:53

I'm somewhat behind and am currently listening to Kirsten Oswald on a high horse.

Said high horse knobbled expertly by Kemi Badenoch.

DreamItDoIt · 06/12/2023 16:00

That is really worth listening to. Very impressed with KB. Now they need to get on and get the schools guidance out and define sex as biological sex in the EA.

GailBlancheViola · 06/12/2023 16:02

ZuttZeVootEeeVo · 06/12/2023 14:45

Lol at angela eagle trying to appear confused that single sex, actual means single sex.

Its like she auditioning for panto.

KB responding re the loopholes in current practice - the biggest fucking loophole is the GRA itself and the imposed secrecy around a GRC.

The question re changing of a sex marker on a Driving Licence and Passport without a GRC was very pertinent, it should not be allowed full stop,

sashagabadon · 06/12/2023 16:06

great session! Sounds like the list of countries where the U.K. will not recognise grc’s ( as they have self I’d) will be countries like Australia, New Zealand, Canada etc. wonder if it includes Ireland?
if any countries complain it’ll shine a light for their own domestic populations that they have this self id system and may get them reviewing their own policies. Lots of countries do look and watch what the U.K. does in this area.

ResisterRex · 06/12/2023 16:12

Can't recommend watching the whole thing strongly enough. The Tories missed a trick with Kemi. She knocked it out the park and all anyone who values men over women opposed her had, was Twitter nonsense that fell apart in an instant.

WarriorN · 06/12/2023 16:16

Agree, she takes no prisoners but with openness and honesty, pointing out that they all need to work together on this to safeguard the issues which she spells out really well. And she illustrates the issues for trans people with self if too and confusion over sex in medical records and implications of this.

Mentions but doesn't name a country that did self id because they though UK was and is now thinking of back tracking

MishyJDI · 06/12/2023 16:21

It's all sounds rather nice doesn't it? But in practicality, the UK will have no idea what an overseas person arriving with their home country documentation as to whether they have or have not changed gender. And the home countries won't tell the UK due to concerns over Uk discrimination and why do they need to know this? As they are already self id - they aren't going to out their citizens to the Uk government. Surely trans people can be picked up on entry, as "we can always tell!" lols. Perhaps measurement of cheek bones, or height or underpants investigation, or even sporting wins. That would mostly impact us CIS folk.

So it's a hollow cheap item for a government who is concerned about a minority issue when it could be talking on economic growth or the NHS or things that actually matter to the electorate.

Apparently they had to do this to be consistent with why they are saying that Scotland GRCs are a risk. They need to do the same to other countries to ensure no bias when it comes to the court challenge.

Bur the reality is, it's a wet blanket, and the UK will have no idea what other countries have done.

What it does show is the Tories continuing to tilt right and make themselves unelectable. Unless the gender crits make up 51% of the population? Then they should be a shoe in!

Apparently not. This gives me great source of amusement. Advancing women's rights, they do not. Increasing hate and intolerance - well. Kinda obvious.

ru53 · 06/12/2023 16:25

Before we all crown Kemi Badenoch queen of women’s rights you should look up her voting record on abortion. I think her position on this is more a cynical stance to gain support in the upcoming implosion of the conservative party than a genuine concern for women

False.

If you're not from a country on the list, you have to go through the same process as someone here does.

That's the point she was making.

Tbf TRAs are even a lower proportion of the population

Women though are 51%

Unfortunately the minority do ride roughshod over them

I thought KB was good. But we are going round in circles until we can agree on what any of this means.

Im confused about why a man without a GRC can get a female passport and driving licence. I heard two different things - the first is that neither are proof of sex, therefore can describe the holders gender identity or presentation; and its a way for a man to 'live as a woman' to aid obtaining a GRC.

I dont think either of these are correct, because men were getting female passports a long time before the GRA and 'gender identity' were concepts. So the government needs to explain why men are given female id.

This is especially important now as there is confusion about what SSE are and how they can be maintained. The government needs to be really clear.

If when a changing room says its 'women only', i need to know what to expect when i enter. Does it includes self identified men, llke eddie izzard, or men with GRC, or only women and girls. Service providers need to know this, too.

Its an insult to the electorate for MPs to stand in parliament and pretend that its clear. It isnt. Why would anyone need public toilets, changing rooms and personal care based on inner feelings?

sanluca · 06/12/2023 16:31

Gender crits...

We really don't register as human, do we, MishyJDI?

Everything can be resolved if we can just segregate on sex and make it clear it is segregated and sex and men to stop lying about their sex, regardless of whatever is on their passport, to push themselves into womens spaces.
