I skipped parts of this article, specifically the first person account.

The rest of it I think is an important read.

MeToo unless you're a Jew

Feminist groups are whitewashing Hamas's crimes

I’m so scared for the littlest- partly that they have been hurt, and partly that they may be assimilated. I’d be so afraid they didn’t know how to come home.

It’s too soon to despair of this baby though- she could be with a different group. It’s chaos there. I’m amazed they are managing to keep track of them at all.

There was a commentator on the radio saying this. That Hamas had expected the IDF to immediately follow them so there was a chaotic quick hiding of the hostages in many different places. So Hamas may be having trouble locating them all. It did make me think the hostages may have been taken more as lures and baits so that they could massacre the rescuing IDF forces.

not released

Some of the hostages are in the hands of other Palestinian terrorists groups, and Hamas claims that they don't know where they are.I suspect that the hostages released today had been transferred to tunnels in the south of Gaza - hence the release across the Rafah crossing into Egypt.

ArthurbellaScott · 24/11/2023 18:40

Some weeks back I watched a man interviewed weeping with relief that his daughter had been found killed.

The barbarity is too much. I hope the released hostages are able somehow to heal.

I'm sorry for my cowardice but I have only read some parts of that article.

'I wouldn’t want my kids to see what I saw last night, or even read what I’ve written above, even though they’re in their twenties.'

The impact of the attack on October the 7th is still landing, for me at least. Again, I'm sorry for my cowardice in not reading all the details.

I don't think you need to apologise @ArthurbellaScott because you're not just assuming one side is fully justified in whatever they do. Knowing your limits when reading about the details of atrocities is important.

However I do feel that those chanting or publicly proclaiming against Israel as the sole aggressor / oppressor (as opposed to the justified freedom fighter) in this war should have to watch. And then see if they hold to their position.

As I said before, I think these people are using Palestinians as a tool in their culture war. And it's not ok.

Also not ok is the Palestinian whose voice was silenced in that interview. The Palestinian people must feel under attack from everyone, IDF, Hamas and even western people proclaiming that they want to help them and propping up the terrorists who deliberately hide in their midst.

ArthurbellaScott · 24/11/2023 20:27

We know that many in Hamas live elsewhere. Various other countries and groups are using Palestine/Israel to play out proxy battles.

My heart aches for all the innocents caught up in it. Even this atheist prays for peace.

I thought this has to be a mistake. Someone had fallen for a bad taste joke from, say, the Onion. But no, seems to be for real

It is a very old paper though.

He said he was glad she was killed because he would rather that than she would be held hostage by Hamas in Gaza.

He found out a couple of weeks later that she was in fact alive and being held in Gaza.

The poor man, his story haunts me, tbh.

Circularargument · 24/11/2023 23:01

@PorcelinaV

Oh, come on. The Right do it all the damn time . Usually in favour of people who aren't in any way really victims I.e. abusive separated 'fathers'.

One can be justifiably angry about rape minimising without taking pot shots at " the left" in that snidey way.

Edited

What the "right does" isn't relevant to explaining the actions of feminist groups in this situation. I don't think it was a "snidey" comment.

@ArthurbellaScott the man was Thomas hand, his daughter is Emily Hand, I’ve been desperately hoping she is one of the hostages released in the next few days.

I read this and was dismayed to see:

"Claire Waxman, London’s first Victims’ Commissioner, wrote to Reem Alsalem, the UN Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women and Girls, to ask why the organisation has stayed silent. In response, Waxman tells me, Alsalem claimed the evidence was “not solid” enough to warrant a statement. An incredulous Waxman points out that November 25 is the UN’s International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls: “How can we talk about eliminating violence against women and girls if we are tacitly saying it’s acceptable to rape Jewish ones?”"

And:

"Southall Black Sisters, another charity committed to ending violence against women, did at least mourn the loss of life on both sides, but blamed it on “the Israeli government’s declaration of war on Gaza”."

What a disgrace.

Hamas men were proudly parading the body of a woman they’d raped and murdered, spitting on her corpse on the back of a truck, before Israel declared war.

It is a very old paper though.

The paper further theorizes that Arab women in Judea and Samaria are not raped by IDF soldiers because the women are de-humanized in the soldiers' eyes.

I wish it was just a bad taste joke. As if rape somehow showed respect for women’s humanity.
