An organisation that puts out that incorrect '1 in 10 people' statistic is actively spreading misleading information about the condition they are supposed to help with. I'm sure the new CEO will sort that out...

Fenlandia · 13/11/2023 09:56

Is this the same person who claimed to have evidence of a biological, testable basis for being born in the wrong body, and was going to release the "evidence" before getting a backlash from trans people? Sorry if I've got my TRAs mixed up.

JustHereWithMyPumpkin · 13/11/2023 10:06

Just so tired of all this male bullshit.

Looks like Steph's already on that point to be fair.

The problem with people like Steph being advocates for women is the implication that there was no woman with an equal skill set along with her sex based advantage.

Also, people like Steph tend to very visibly demonstrate lack of empathy for women. Again, implicit in their personal presentation and behaviour is a disrespect for sex based experiences and women’s sex based vulnerabilities.

fedupandstuck · 13/11/2023 10:18

Steph seems to have missed out any non-binary identifying women, or those with other gender identities that aren't woman/transman (of which I think there are possibly infinite varieties) on that tweet. tsk tsk. I expect that Steph will now cancel Steph-self as a result of this omission.

Sorry if I've missed it but does anyone know Steph's background? Other than being a man? Does he have a track record in women's health or in the charity sector? Just wondering what qualified him for the role.

I believe he owns a business selling baby equipment (car seats, prams etc).

ChishiyaBat · 13/11/2023 10:50

I've posted this on one of the other threads, but i'll post it again, nasty little individual!

Does Steph think Steph is going to hell then? Interesting.

1 in 10 people is not the same as 1 in 10 women of reproductive age

Quite.

It doesn't exactly fill you with confidence, does it? From that sentence alone I know that this organisation:

  • Prioritises male wishes over their core remit which is only relevant to women
  • Doesn't understand figures/ statistics
  • Has no concept of fact checking or attention to detail
Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/11/2023 11:20

1 in 10 people is not the same as 1 in 10 women of reproductive age

This is a common blunder genderists make, and makes their stats completely misleading, and unclear. Is this 1 in 10 women (so "people" has just been inserted wherever "women" appears) or is it 1 in 10 of the general population, so approximately 1 in 5 women? Don't quote me on the maths there, it's not my forte Grin just highlighting the potential for confusion.

I never post on these discussions because I’d be afraid to be on the wrong side of the debate. However, I wanted to ask something. What if Steph just really empathises with women with endo despite not having it? Then Steph would be a fine choice, right?

I don’t have children but I’m very passionate about parental rights in the workplace. I can be good on that front without having children so why can’t Steph do this? Genuine question, I’d just be interested to know people’s thoughts.

Edited

Because now Steph has been appointed, we can pretty much guarantee that the word woman will be removed across this whole website, if it hasn't been done already. Remember, cancelling of women usually starts from the top.

TrainedByCats · 13/11/2023 11:55

I think we’ll probably find this is text book targeting and take over a small organisation by TRA’s and redirect it to validate TW

we should look at recent trustee appointments

TrainedByCats · 13/11/2023 11:57

I saw the tweet this morning and had an immediate involuntary physical reaction to the picture beside the words before I’d even quite clocked them. Not uncanny valley exactly because picture wasn’t computer generated but similar

Rightsraptor · 13/11/2023 12:15

Steph can't even get adenomyosis right.

Steph seems to think Steph is CEO of an organisation advocating for sufferers of adenoyosis.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 13/11/2023 12:28

Surprised to see someone like this who plays a leading role in attempting to silence women talking, thinking that they have any role in speaking for women. Julie Bindel wrote about the sexual threats made to women at the protest that Steph played a major role in organising, outside the 2021 FILIA conference.
Unbelievable.

But Steph will reserve the right to use the word of course. All those women's awards and Wot not

EmmaGrundyForPM · 13/11/2023 04:48

I don't think you have to experience a condition in order to work for an organisation that advocates for people experiencing that condition.

I used to work for a sight loss charity. There is nothing wrong with my sight. I'd like to think I did a good job.

I know a woman who was CEO of a men's cancer charity. She was good at her job.

Did you wear sunglasses indoors and carry a white stick for a sexual kick though?

happydappy2 · 13/11/2023 13:50

The problem is some males who ‘identify as women’ think women advocating for single sex spaces are terfs/vermin and deserved to be on the receiving end of violence….how can these males possibly advocate on behalf of women?

Zeugma · 13/11/2023 13:56

I had endometriosis. It blighted my life and left me in near-constant agony, and I reached a stage where I was almost unable to work. I wasn’t even referred by my GP, so I had to pay privately to see a specialist, who was male - but he was a highly-trained surgeon with decades of experience who understood that I was suffering because of my specifically female anatomy and my female cycle.

Also to the point, he wasn’t a cos-playing man battening onto the suffering of women. This appointment is absolutely grotesque.

Zeugma · 13/11/2023 14:08

rip4nutmeg on TwitterX has done some digging. Looks as though this organisation was set up with a very specific focus right from the start.

TokyoGhoul · 13/11/2023 14:15

I don't believe that people don't understand that a man pretending to be a women heading a women's charity is not the same as a man who understands he's a man, and different to women, doing so.

I think everyone does understand they just don't know how to artuclate the discomnfort without seeming unkind. They want it to be OK.

Well it's not OK. It's insulting to ask us to pretend this person is the same as us in any context, but especially in this one.

I ‘get’ the point you are trying to make and I have every sympathy with the cause but as the parent of a blind teenager, I’d like to respectfully make the point that your comment is disablist, specifically your derogatory reference to ‘wearing sunglasses indoors’. There may be blind people who choose or need to wear sunglasses but there are many, many who do not, depending on their sight loss condition/s. Also, my teen does not use a ‘white stick’ - she does however carry a long cane. I hope you don’t mind me pointing this out: I always think it’s good to be as well informed and educated on all issues affecting oppressed and minority populations.
