BREAKING NEWS: Green Party Standing Orders Committee has ruled to disaffiliate Green Party Women as a special interest group - silencing representation for approx 25k female members in the party. Causing detriment to members on the basis of sex is ACT OF UNLAWFUL DISCRIMINATION

This comes after GPEX, the Green Party executive, has this month denied Green Party Women access to their email database, blocking them from communicating with members.

GPRC (the regional council) has held several emergency meetings this year to try and close down or 'disaffiliate' Green Party Women. This is an institutional and systemic attack on women's freedom of speech and right to assemble as women. #GreenPartyWomenUnderAttack

This is in the bit of the hangmaids tale just before they took the women’s bank cards away, isn’t it?

Rightsraptor · 11/11/2023 18:41

I'm a GP member. What do I do now - still stay to fight or give in?

WarriorN · 11/11/2023 18:45

Hold fire till we know what is best.

Share the tweets - as emails have been blocked we can't organise affectively.

It's tempting to resign but they wouldn't care.

I'd rather be a thorn in their side and make a noise.

Yes stealth; it's just like that. Angry

But June did not submit.

@ GreenPartyWomen have been a strong voice for women in @ TheGreenParty but much to the annoyance of the TRA's who run the party, Gender Critical women keep getting voted onto the committee.
So the Green Party have disaffiliated the group and silenced women's voices entirely.

Surely illegal? And counter to Party policy?

Morningtroubles · 11/11/2023 20:20

An old friend looked surprised when I told him the Green Party was the party I would be least willing to vote for. He asked why. I said because they are really misogynistic.

And ‘da-daa’ they have proved me so right!

Well done Greens! The most predictably misogynistic of all the parties! Be proud!

I remember when they liked trees and wildlife.

Now they like cock.

WarriorN · 11/11/2023 20:42

I think surely illegal.

The new EDI officer is on the GC ish side.

I can't see how this will pan out well

Perhaps they enjoy being taken to court

WarriorN · 11/11/2023 20:51

They're claiming gpw didn't follow own constitution. And this broke the rules. Or something.

OP posts:
Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/11/2023 21:11

I've just seen a tweet saying that the constitutional breach they're basing this on is from 2021, when the election was delayed.

Wetandhorrible · 11/11/2023 21:16

Are they not still awaiting a court judgement or two? I wonder if they have made any decisions in light of what they expect? Hope this doesn't denote well placed confidence 😕🤞

TheGreatATuin · 11/11/2023 22:03

I don't have words for this. The absolute misogyny of it.

ArthurbellaScott · 11/11/2023 22:11

It's becoming more and more visible as the panic rises.

This.

I AM going to enjoy the court tweets from this one.

Don't leave the party Green Feminists are advising. Remember this is panic setting in as the Closing Arguments are on 21 November 2023 from the Shahrar Ali case. Two more cases to come after that. They fear rightly they are going to lose.

https://twitter.com/GreenFemsUK/status/1723398895818981592

It seems those behind this are trying to claim that GPW were not running elections properly by the constitution and this gave them grounds to close them down. As yet they haven't even bothered to tell GPW formerly what has happened and GPW had no chance to argue their case. It all sounds dictatorial and unjustifiable.

There were 25,000 members of Green Party women who have just lost their representation it seems just because they were women - this is huge.

Shahrar Ali and others are trying to find out what went on exactly.

Legal minds are twitter are advising this is blatant sex discrimination. Political parties have to follow the law:
https://www.equalityhumanrights.com/sites/default/files/equality-act-2010-guidance-for-political-parties.pdf

Moreover Green Party Women have apparently recently reported the party to EHRC for discrimination and in response the party has disaffiliated the group. That is not going to impress the EHRC.

Hopefully we can push the EHRC to open a statutory investigation under the Equality Act 2006 into sexist discrimination and victimisation in the Green Party just as they did in the Labour party over anti Semitism.

As soon as we get solid information on what has happened legal action can be taken. Once we know more too we can all act even non members. Remember if this is confirmed the Greens are institutionally sexist. How can they be trusted to work in Local councils or as MPs? If you have any Green councilors locally you will need assurances that the council has not been infected by Green institutional sexism. If the Greens are biased against half the UK's population it is incredibly serious.

So we can all ask MPs Councilors etc to take a stance over this just as they did over Labour's antisemitism. Genderists will have to defend bigotry or change tack, it will give ammunition to those that know biological sex is real.

We can use this to fight back against gender nonsense everywhere if we play our cards right. It will also panic the gender bigots in Labour and Lib Dems in the run up to the election.

So hold fire at the moment till we know exactly what happened and we can issue complaints.

Exactly, they're scrabbling around for crumbs

Cllr Zoe Hatch:
This is outrageous! GPEW has lost the plot entirely!
Let me get this right:
Green Party Women whistleblow re: discrimination = no response from the party & suspend me (GPW Co-chair)
Green Party Women report the party to EHRC for discrimination = party disaffiliates the group!

So no, I'm not going anywhere.

I won't do what they want.

A woman I know who's given over half her life to the Gp - doing real campaigning, coal face work, was nearly broken last night over this. Nearly.

If anyone is interested, Now is the time to join the party and help vote the right people in.

HagoftheNorth · 12/11/2023 07:38

i’m a prospective member of the Green Party, because I’m actively involved in trying to address environmental issues. BUT, what is the point of fighting this? Surely all the same people with all the same beliefs will still be active party members driving the same agenda? Or do you believe there’s just a very active, vocal minority and the majority doesn’t want to support the direction the GP is heading - in which case, how did these people get to run the party?

stealtheatingtunnocks · 12/11/2023 09:12

People join parties and don’t then Participate. They don’t go to meetings, don’t take in roles, don’t go to conference and vote on internal matters and don’t ask to stand. So it’s the fringe enthusiasts who land up running it.

this is true of all parties.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 12/11/2023 09:13

what happens if a party bankrupts itself throughgenerating court expenses?

is it just closed down?

PronounssheRa · 12/11/2023 09:33

Are they wanting to get sued out of existence, because that is the way this is heading.

At a time when we most need a credible green party FFS.

WarriorN · 12/11/2023 13:20

Keep meaning to say @fromorbit, a very encouraging post, thank you.
Courage calls etc.

If we leave we can't change anything imho and I'm stubborn.
