Women's rights general conversations - Thread 7

Continuation of Thread 6.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions in the supermarket, grr"- that sort of thing).

That's a shame; I hope it can be fixed.

IcakethereforeIam · 24/11/2023 21:59

Didn't even get to say goodbye 😢

MmePoppySeedDefage · 24/11/2023 22:27

Gosh that's awful. And not to know why is Not Fair. Can she appeal? Can we do anything to support her?

Waitwhat23 · 24/11/2023 23:17

I'm surprised if Mavis has been banned - her posts were always pretty even handed.

Edit - thinking about it, even handed isn't quite what I mean. More that she's able to put her point across, sometimes quite directly, but not in an abusive way or in a way (that I can see) would merit a ban.

Woman2023 · 24/11/2023 23:35

Did I understand that right Mancurse banned from here? Why is everywhere so ban happy towards women?

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 25/11/2023 08:21

What, Mancurse banned? Our Mavis? What on earth happened?

Kucinghitam · 25/11/2023 08:30

Why on earth did Mavis get banned? What the hell?

(Just did an Advanced Search and she hasn't posted since the 14th).

Is there any way to get her reinstated, do you think? Can we appeal to MNHQ?

Kucinghitam · 25/11/2023 08:42

I get the impression that MN do not reverse bans. Especially of pesky outspoken vulva-drivers.

Damn, hate to think of Mavis not coming back. She was a goodun.

Anyone know what her crime was?

BezMills · 25/11/2023 09:31

I am also sorry to hear that. It will have been some man that reported her for sure

angelico53 · 25/11/2023 09:41

Is the old talk lair thread still going? Can't seem to find it.

Waitwhat23 · 25/11/2023 10:28

It's International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women today.

The Counting Dead Women twitter feed is posting a post every 5 mins for each of the women who has died at the hands of a man this year. It's sobering how many tweets there are.

The only mention I have seen here in Scotland about today is a random link to '16 days of activism' in a general weekly email update by my employers. That's it.

I don't really know if this is strictly the right place but the Bunbury threads seem to have died a death and I just wanted to post somewhere that I'm really sorry I had to withdraw my thread on safe spaces (I don't want to namecheck the charity I'd mentioned as a case study as it's now in the gaze of Sauron).

The thread got invaded by at least two TRAs, one of whom seemingly only signed up to comment on that one post and unbelievably started harassing the charity and a bit of my faith in humanity died this evening because for all the "would you rather a living daughter or dead son?" posturing, I really did think there might be some shred of decency in there when it came to taking suicide prevention seriously instead of using it to score political points.

I'm quite upset about this and having to get that really valuable discussion taken down to protect a much-needed single sex space, and am wondering if anyone could PM me with an over it invite code (sp. intentional - can I name them on MN? Haven't seen them mentioned for a while) as I'm just so fucking tired of trying to have conversations with one hand covering my mouth at all times.

On the plus side, I thought MNHQ would have been in bed at 11pm on a Saturday but they mobilised really quickly to take my thread down when asked.

BezMills · 26/11/2023 03:50

I am sorry about your thread, and I was interested in the discussion. TRA wreckers are all over mumsnet like a rash.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 26/11/2023 14:47

@Brit, could you please archive that Telegraph piece as it hasn't been done yet, please and thank you!

Britinme · 26/11/2023 14:48

@Vegemiteandhoneyontoast I would but I don't know how! I'm on my iPad in the app.

duc748 · 26/11/2023 14:54

I just did it.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 26/11/2023 14:54

It's okay, @Britinme I've got it now!

dunBle · 27/11/2023 12:11

Scrolling through twitter, I saw the picure before the text and thought "I didn't know the Fox Botherer had grown his hair out".
