Continuation of Thread 6.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions in the supermarket, grr"- that sort of thing).

It looks as if women's sports are peaking on my side of the Atlantic as female athletes sue the NCAA over transgender competitors in sports.

The look Riley Gaines is giving Thomas is absolutely priceless.

Just found this

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2024/03/15/gender-neutral-toilets-security-checks-uefa-euro-2024/

Forgot to copy the archive link. My eyes were rolling so much I got dizzy and a bit nauseous.

That first sentence. Security checks, I thought, were performed for security. Not to validate someone's vanity.

Gender-neutral toilets at all Euro 2024 stadiums

Security checks will also be ‘performed without connection to binary limitations of gender identification or expression’

Well I suppose that's one way to reverse the family friendly atmosphere and return to a rugged man only following.

duc748 · 15/03/2024 17:31

I suppose how big a deal that is depends partly on how different or not it is from current practice in Germany (which I wouldn't know about).

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 15/03/2024 17:32

"Euro 2024 celebrates diversity and inclusion, ensuring that all social groups, communities and minorities can be a part of it.”

Although not part of it as staff, in the case of women who don't want to perform body searches on men (or men who don't want to do them on women).

Good discussion between Sharron Davies and Caitlyn Jenner in the Telegraph.

Interesting post-Irish referendum analysis by Rod Liddle of all people, with a comment that some pushing for yes actually voted no because they dare not say they didn't support yes:

Campaigning Yes and voting No: little wonder the Irish elite lost.

They lay out so clearly why TRSOH can't be trusted with organising a piss-up in a brewery.

The Telegraph article archive:

https://archive.ph/2ylS5

The official website for the tournament confirms the policy will apply to each of its 10 venues, stating they “will provide gender-neutral lanes at all entrances, where aspects like body checks before entering the stadium are performed without connection to binary limitations of gender identification or expression”.

Whatever that means. I think it means that men will be allowed to body search women and believe me, the security at German football matches is VERY thorough - including groin cupping. It happened to me some years ago, in Bremen.

At my sister's workplace, staff have been sent a name badge design that includes pronouns. The email says that if the preferred pronouns are not supplied then they will be assumed.

She's pushed back immediately, requesting that they are not included on her badge. I've advised her to say nothing more than "it's not my practice" and not getting drawn into the whys. I've alerted her to the Maya Forstater case, should disciplinary action be hinted at.

Does anyone know if this is a real quote?

I think it is. I did a Google search and it's attributed to him in a few places.

Have all the threads about Mulvainey's song/video been taken down? I'm not that interested in watching the video so not been posting on the threads or following them. Although I did read a cracking DM article that someone linked taking down DM's video.

Anyway this Jean Hatchet article is good too

https://thecritic.co.uk/dylan-mulvaney-did-not-share-our-girlhood/

I'm not starting a new thread if it's just going to get deleted.

Dylan Mulvaney did not share our girlhood | Jean Hatchet | The Critic Magazine

Back in December 2013, feminist Twitter began discussing their shared experiences of growing up in a female body. They used the hashtag #SharedGirlhood and hundreds of tweets were exchanged about some…

Love Jean Hatchet. That's such a good and funny article. My favourite line:
"It's just knickers, Dylan."

Clabony · 19/03/2024 11:58

That's a good article by Jean, thanks for posting it.

MouseMinge · 19/03/2024 19:22

"It's just knickers, Dylan."

It's such a great line. The way that AGPs and the likes of Mulvaney play into these stereotypes that they've mostly made up in their own stupid minds verges on sickening.

mach2 · 19/03/2024 20:12

There are no “basics” to being female that can be learned. The basic requirement is a female body and there ends the possibility for Dylan’s endeavour and fantasy.

Yup.

Gonners · 19/03/2024 20:42

On the strength of that excellent article I've watched the video. In the interests of the thread, I shall not comment beyond saying that I found it unusually entertaining.

Blimey, I'm terrified just trapping house spiders that way. Amazing.
