Continuation of Thread 6.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions in the supermarket, grr"- that sort of thing).

What strikes me again and again on MN is that I/we had it relatively easy, bringing up kids in the 70s and 80s. When I see the pressures that the parents of today's youngsters have to deal with. Increasingly, it seems unsupported by the State.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/12/2023 00:34

From Twitter (wide eyed look 'who, me?'):

I remember that! Such a male response.

SqueakyDinosaur · 21/12/2023 08:57

There's a cartoon of almost exactly that story somewhere...

SqueakyDinosaur · 21/12/2023 09:01

Found it!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/12/2023 10:46

That cartoon is so apt, down to the naive, dim "cis-girlfriend" character being shouted at by the males and blaming the "terfs" at the end Grin

IW desperate for attention, despicably weaponising the violent murder of a child. I hope this sees IW before a judge

I saw India Willoughby's tweet retweeted a few times last night. It's despicable. The murderers didn't care one jot that she was trans except in that it might be amusing to see if she screamed like a man or a woman. She wasn't even their first choice, they just wanted to murder someone and they did.

Of course India doesn't give a shit about the murdered girl. India just wants a victim to add to the list of trans genocide because thus far it's a very, very, very short list.

Boiledbeetle · 21/12/2023 19:08

India has lost the fucking plot! Some vile stuff gets tweeted by that individual but this is another level of batshit!

MouseMinge · 21/12/2023 22:15

Maybe one of the people she's libelled will sue her. We can but hope. And she should be delighted that I've used the pronoun she so wishes she deserved. Mulitple times.

IcakethereforeIam · 22/12/2023 20:14

Amy Hamm tweeted about this, so I went looking and found the article

https://time.com/6549690/rising-malpractice-premiums-price-small-clinics-out-of-gender-affirming-care-for-minors/

I don't understand why lengthening the statute of limitations would be a big deal. They're so certain that this treatment is what the child wants why should they worry about being sued? It's a puzzle!

Malpractice Premiums Are Hobbling Access to Gender-Affirming Care for Minors

Even in states where laws protect minMalpractice insurance premiums are keeping small clinics from providing minors with gender-affirming care,

Merry Christmas to everyone here, hope you're enjoying yourselves!

MouseMinge · 27/12/2023 02:35

I had just always accepted your username as a cool name @BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn and now "I've met you". Oh my days, that is one adorable wee creature. I want to smell its pee!

MouseMinge · 27/12/2023 02:36

And of course, happy the rest of the holidays, I hope everyone is having the sort of time that brings you contentment.

SinnerBoy · 27/12/2023 03:13

I took my daughter to Hamerton Zoo last year and we saw some. I couldn't comment on whether or not they smell of popcorn!

IcakethereforeIam · 27/12/2023 09:05

I'm another one who wants to smell binturong wee (as opposed to Binturong's wee). And Uncle Stan he's the...erm...coolest(?).

IcakethereforeIam · 27/12/2023 10:27

This is just a short article. I thought of posting it on a Tavistock thread but was spoiled for choice

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/12/26/tavistock-transgender-clinic-children-aged-three-nhs/

https://archive.ph/nNTT4 archive link

I don't understand what could be going on with a toddler that would make a reasonable parent think they needed to go to a gender clinic! I can imagine what could be going on with a parent though.

More than 70 children aged three and four were sent to Tavistock transgender clinic

The clinic, which had no lower age limit on referrals, was shut down last year

StephanieSuperpowers · 27/12/2023 11:15

Parents can be genuinely insane.

SinnerBoy · 27/12/2023 13:25

Ah. I see that you've met people, Stephanie.

StephanieSuperpowers · 27/12/2023 15:43

Some of them, Sinner! Enough to raise an eyebrow at times!!!
