Women's rights general conversations - Thread 7

Continuation of Thread 6.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions in the supermarket, grr"- that sort of thing).

I cheered to read that he hasn't been selected for Brighton.
The arrogant shit could not even be arsed to reply to Sarah's emails about rape survivor support..

MouseMinge · 18/12/2023 00:12

I think he fully expected to be selected. His ego is that big and his sense of entitlement even bigger. I used to love him back in the day but with his boy and girl mode bullshit, I've been out as trans for thirty years and his play-acting with politics whilst thinking he should be taken seriously. It's all the same. Eddie wants what he wants and we should all bend over and give it to him.

MyLadyDisdainlsYetLiving · 18/12/2023 17:33

Not sure if this is the thread for it, but didn't want to start one. But I wanted to get it out there - someone I know came out as trans this year and I find I'm still really bothered. Trying to work out why because I'm very much a live and let live kind of person on an individual level (safeguarding and protection of single-sex spaces apart) and it's really none of my business. I'd always liked & respected them, got on well, many shared interests. It's still too early/sensitive to find out whether this is the outworking of a lifelong gender dysphoria situation or a trip to Malaga as mutual friends are still at the stunning and brave stage of support. But the friend who is transitioning is middle aged and married with kids, and has chosen a frilly new name so I have my suspicions.

Maybe I've read too much of the transwidows' thread and it's made me uncomfortable to think what his wife is going through?

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 18/12/2023 20:01

Nice clear article.

MouseMinge · 18/12/2023 20:58

@MyLadyDisdainlsYetLiving it probably doesn't help but I'd feel the same.

I don't know much about brains, yet somehow I'm very unsurprised by the piece's verdict. I doubt brain scans could determine a Sagittarius either.

Speaking as a Cancerian, I must disagree with you there, my former friend.

Speaking as an Earthling... 😃

Only 4?

There's a thread on this but in case you've not seen it, yet another woman arrested because of a complaint about her saying perfectly legal words: twitter.com/LouiseDistras/status/1736823203794690061?

OneMorePlant · 19/12/2023 16:21

At this point it's going to be a shorter list to find TRA who didn't do something awful.

StephanieSuperpowers · 19/12/2023 16:23

Personally, I think being a TRA is awful, regardless of other stuff they seem to be inevitably mixed up in.

StephanieSuperpowers · 19/12/2023 19:55

All the perverts are ladies!

IcakethereforeIam · 19/12/2023 19:50

It's not happening again! Although, just to mix it up a bit, this may be a nappy/faeces fetish or perhaps he just tripped.

Who wouldn't want this beauty in the women's loos. I bet he'd be only to happy to empty the bins all over the floor and himself.

He makes a really shit woman.

And now I'm going to stand under a scalding hot shower as I feel dirty just reading that!

(I wish! It's winter I'm lucky if the shower goes above tepid at this time of year!)

IcakethereforeIam · 19/12/2023 21:58

Actually, he could come round to mine. The flush has just broken on the loo. We're fine for now, but there might soon be some....stuff to take away 🤢 🤮

Plumber will be round tomorrow afternoon.

Heh, 'shit woman' 😁

IPSO code (updated this summer) clause 12 is an interesting one.

The Code does not specify appropriate or acceptable terminology. It requires that any references to an individual’s sex or gender identity are accurate and non-pejorative.

That 'or' gives editors scope that I think was not available under the previous version of the code. If they wish to use it.

IcakethereforeIam · 20/12/2023 21:56

I've just read this article

https://unherd.com/thepost/rimmel-the-latest-brand-to-prey-on-childrens-insecurities/

I agree with it. I had no idea that such young children were being targeted by skincare brands! I thinks it's fair enough the ASA action against Rimmel. Rimmel should have told the kids if they didn't like make up perhaps they're actually male, the ASA would have done sweet FA. Hell, the Arts Council would probably have given them a grant.

Rimmel: the latest brand to prey on children's insecurities

A Rimmel London makeup advert with the tagline “Get ready to slay this back-to-school season” has been banned by the Advertising Standards Authority for “playing on young girls’ insecurities”. The regulator said that the advert implied it was necessary...
