Feminism: Sex and gender discussions
RockAndRollerskate · 14/10/2023 01:35

i have no words

Pocodaku · 14/10/2023 01:39

I’ve long ago stopped reading The Guardian on this issue; their good writers left or were hounded out for GC views.

Blackbyrd · 14/10/2023 01:45

Paloma Faith is both dull and stupid. Watched her on a quiz show recently and she was abysmal

Agrona · 14/10/2023 04:34

Tedious.

DrBlackbird · 14/10/2023 06:23

In an act of breathtaking dissonance, The Guardian has this article in the same top story headlines as Dylan being nominated woman of the year.

Did no editor see the callousness of placing an article on a man who makes a mockery of women with his little girl act together with a story about a woman nearly dying from being denied maternity care in jail and left to labour alone in a shower? No tw will ever be subject to that particular abuse.

Viner is a joke. But these misogynistic headlines are anything but…

An Alabama woman was imprisoned for ‘endangering’ her fetus. She gave birth in a jail shower

Exclusive: Ashley Caswell, one of a growing number of jailed pregnant women in Etowah county, is suing officials after she was denied care

That photo, without the filters and effects, is decidedly different from those usually posted.

elgreco · 14/10/2023 07:35

He looks like the Joker.

RealityFan · 14/10/2023 07:52

My take is that so-called reality is now just another form of showbiz. Or should I say, a tiny sliver of reality. And even that reality is unreality. Hence this award, that if you only look at the headline, you'd think was the real world, but is anything but.

Big Brother has just started for what, the umpteenth time. Ostensibly it's a reality show, but even though it appears to have real people in it, it's as divorced from the real world as you can get. And Mulvaney is as real a woman as Big Brother is the real world.

And thus these women of the year awards. Bud Light and Nike did their corporate duty in forcing the TRA mantra forcing Mulvaney as a woman. Now Attitude have picked up the baton.

But it won't work. This is the "entertainment complex" end of the enforcement messaging police of the trans ideology movement. As fake as it is dangerous.

CorruptedCauldron · 14/10/2023 08:51

Oh Paloma. It’s not transphobic and it’s not bigotry to say Dylan is not a woman. It’s reality. The truth. Makes your blood boil, eh Paloma? Mine too, when women are happy to slur others as transphobic for not accepting the TWAW line. Being gender-critical is not transphobic, it’s a protected belief.

Dylan is a male person who likes wearing make-up and dresses and frothing excitedly about girlhood. No one is stopping Dylan from doing that or screaming STFU in Dylan’s face. If they are, then of course I disapprove. Bullying is wrong. Dylan can present any which way Dylan likes and that’s fine. Just don’t ask women to provide validation of an acquired gender identity; that’s not our job. We are not emotional support humans or validation props. Our sex-based reality, and the discrimination that we can and do experience as women, is not a costume that can be worn by a male.

Fenlandia · 14/10/2023 09:03

Seeing Dylan being feted as woman of the year on the cover of Attitude magazine is very jarring. A highly-filtered photo too.

Love or hate her she certainly gets a lot of attention from the gender critical community and the extreme far right.

Paloma?

Or Dylan who is male?

Lottapianos · 14/10/2023 11:54

Jesus. So fucking insulting. They really do think that 'woman' means dresses, heels, sparkles, make up, mincing around and shrieking. Nothing more. It's every bit as appalling as 'black face'

Paloma Faith and everyone else who celebrates this idiot Mulvaney should be ashamed of themselves

"TRA community"? Or do you mean LGBT people and allies who are just trying to live their lives?

Cazzovuoi · 14/10/2023 12:16

@Stephannee

LGB = Sexuality

T = Identity

Please stop conflating sexuality with identity it’s extremely homophobic.

Ilovecashews · 14/10/2023 12:28

Yeah we are trying to live our lives too and keep our right.

Why are you linking two very disparate groups together in one sentence? Are you Owen Jones?

We’re all ‘trying to live our lives’. 😂

No ones stopping you living your lives. People have so much life and liberty they can write anything they like on MN.

And Dylan is certainly living his life. Indeed he's living the life. Absolutely raking in $millions from his grift.

Not bad for one of the endless "stars" of musical theatre who saw his future constrict with the advent of lockdown.

As they say, the boy done good.

Do the Extreme Far Right really care about what awards magazines are giving out?

You seem to know all about the Extreme Far Right, certainly more than we do.

No, I think that Stephannee thinks that if only KJK could get close to a Dylan photo shoot, she'd bring all her neo-Nazi chums with her.

Proving beyond all doubt that Gender Critical equals Hitler Mengele Goebbels Goring Himmler.

I'm sure of it.

PaperWalkAndTalk · 14/10/2023 14:40

The newly created award was deliberately done to troll and get publicity, something these awards have lacked for years.

I can't really can't upset at some award deliberately created to give to someone calling themselves trans.

Paloma, she's so righteous n'all.
Her "blood boils at the injustice" of it all.
Can't wait for the next time a puff piece calls her a serious, introspective and thoughtful artist. Because it'll be all so consistent.

Pudmyboy · 14/10/2023 19:16

I'd like to join in with 'Oh Paloma'. I'll put her 'blood boiling' next to Rosie's 'mad angry cry' in my File of Disappointing Women.
