Feminism: Sex and gender discussions
OP posts:

@Stephannee 's comment is a total misrepresentation of a comment made in response to the editor of P*nkNews complaining that in his opinion people had been encouraged to pile on him. JKR was pointing out the hypocrisy in that statement given that PN is frequently the instigator of such things themselves.

As a student nurse, in Lesson 1 on Day 1 of our mental health module we were told we should never affirm people’s delusions. None of us are legally or morally obliged to play along with Dylan’s cynical fame-hungry attention-seeking. You call him “she/her” if you wish, but he’s nothing like a woman or girl, he insults both women and transwomen with his shtick.

So why keep talking about her? If you dislike her so much noone's forcing you to have a daily conservation about her.

Also who made you the official spokesperson for all cis women and all trans women? Not all women are "gender critical".

Nope.

A gay man had received abusive from "gender critical" people who had organised brigades/pile-ons.

This apparently causes Ms Rowling to "guffaw so hard she pulls something".

She is both homophobic and transphobic.

MavisMcMinty · 19/10/2023 17:15

I said “none of us are legally or morally obliged…” which you seem to have misread as “all of us everywhere in the whole universe must NEVER EVER play along with this man and his fantasies”. You call him “she/her” if you want, as I also said in my post. There’s a choice.

Gender critics aren’t homophobic though. Many gender critics are gay or lesbian. Trans is nothing to do with sexuality*, that’s the mistake you’re making here. I don’t consider whether someone is gay before I laugh at something idiotic or hypocritical or ironic they’ve said, their sexuality is not what I’m laughing at, I don’t care who other people fancy/fuck, why should I?

EDIT to say well it has to do with sexuality a bit, of course, which is why gender dysphoric kids who are left alone to go through natural puberty often grow up to be gay adults. It isn’t gender critics trying to “trans the gay away”, as GIDS clinicians joked(!) in Hannah Barnes’ Time to Think.

AlphaTransWoman · 17/10/2023 23:52

I'm just asking you to be kind.

NEVER EVER tell a woman to BE KIND. That is a total red rag to a bull. You're still part of the patriarchy. Kindness is ours to dispense as we please to those who've earned our respect and don't put our safety at risk. This works whether you are male or female dealing with anyone, male or female.

You and Dylan both are males, with a penis each. Stay out of our single sex spaces.

Get therapy for your dysphoria.

fedupandstuck · 19/10/2023 17:47

@Stephannee nope. Why misrepresent an Twitter exchange than can easily be checked for context? It's just silly.

Helleofabore · 19/10/2023 17:48

Stephannee · 19/10/2023 17:09

Again with the scolding of women for discussing something that you think we should not be discussing.

It would be laughable, except that it is so misogynistic to keep telling us that we should not be discussing the impact on women and girls of this misogynist male individual and how this person is lauded and celebrated for what amounts to the cruel mocking of those women and girls.

But again, crack on. Every time you post, people see the tactics being used and it is a great demonstration so they know just how emotional manipulation here.

And fuck! Did you even read what you have just stated:

"Also who made you the official spokesperson for all cis women and all trans women? Not all women are "gender critical"."

Ummm.... Mavis has made no claims that they are speaking for 'all' or 'any'. She is pointing out the reality 'None of us are legally or morally obliged to play along with Dylan’s cynical fame-hungry attention-seeking.' and states that others are completely free to have their own opinion with: "You call him “she/her” if you wish, but he’s nothing like a woman or girl, he insults both women and transwomen with his shtick."

Besides which, it doesn't take a consensus of 'all' people. That is YOUR absolutist and all or nothing view on this issue.

So, NO. We don't need to have ALL female people on board on the discussion of when pronouns could be used or not. It doesn't matter a jot if one person agrees to use pronouns and one does not. If you want to use preferred pronouns go for it. The rest of us will not feel compelled to.

And again, no male people should be having any fucking say in the laws and policies that impact women in the way you indicate with your inclusion of 'transwomen'. Just more misogyny from you.

So, no evidence posted.

Just more vague accusations.

JanesLittleGirl · 19/10/2023 18:00

I must confess to being worried about the "gender critical" people who organised brigades. Does brigade have a special meaning on X or can "gender critical" people deploy the Army at will?

Transparent2 · 19/10/2023 18:10

Stephannee · 18/10/2023 23:45

No it's not.

An example of homophobia would be "guffawing so hard you pull something" at a gay person who has spoken about receiving abuse. You know, what Ms Rowling did.

I think you should look up that Twitter conversation, and read it without your transgender or transgender ally specs on. Misrepresenting JKR will do nothing to persuade anyone that you care about truth.

fedupandstuck · 19/10/2023 18:12

@JanesLittleGirl "brigading" online means to organise a coordinated number of people to all go and post or vote on a poll in order to skew the conversation or poll result.

JanesLittleGirl · 19/10/2023 18:16

Thanks @fedupandstuck Every day is a school day.

CorruptedCauldron · 19/10/2023 18:33

Attached is a screenshot of the Twitter conversation referred to upthread. Pink News has published endless hit pieces on JK Rowling accusing her of transphobia. Every time she or any other women’s rights campaigner is accused of transphobia in the press (and people believe it to be true), things get a little bit less safe for women who care about their sex-based rights.

JK did not guffaw because a gay man was picked on; she guffawed because a man whose publication has been instrumental in smearing her name, repeatedly, generating pile-ons and torrents of abuse, has complained that he’s been a victim of… well, pile-ons. It’s kind of audacious to condemn pile-ons when stirring the hornets’ nest is your bread and butter at Pink News.

Dylan again
Noseyoldcow · 19/10/2023 19:49

Haven't read the thread, but shan't be drinking Budweiser, wearing Nike or using Cerave products.

ArabellaScott · 19/10/2023 20:15

Pink News who have just been accused of treating staff abominably and who are apparently losing money hand over fist? That Pink News?

Stephannee · 19/10/2023 20:28

"Pink News has published endless hit pieces on JK Rowling accusing her of transphobia"

Well Rowling does frequently ask for proof of her transphobia, doesn't she? Pinknews and others are essentially just replying to her.

Stephannee · 19/10/2023 20:29

Meant to add above- and this certainly doesn't justify what she posted, if anything it's just an aggravator. It means she thinks homophobia is acceptable if the gay person/people in question are supportive of trans rights and/or calling her out.

ArabellaScott · 19/10/2023 20:30

Toxic workplace, bullying, staff leaving in droves.

Dylan again
fedupandstuck · 19/10/2023 20:37

@Stephannee explain exactly what about the screenshot tweet is homophobic or transphobic? Specifically.

Rowling is highlighting the hypocrisy of someone who has repeatedly used his platform to post nonsense about her, complaining about the same behaviour that he has incited.

@Stephannee how is it bigoted to support women's rights? Would love to know the answer.

Attacking LGBT people, their rights, the charities that support them and their allies isn't "women's rights".

fedupandstuck · 19/10/2023 20:50

@Stephannee just repeating the same accusation isn't explaining anything. And no one cares if you want to boycott Rowlings books, you go for it if it makes you happy.

wincarwoo · 19/10/2023 20:53

@Stephannee pretty wild claims without evidence. Don't worry though I won't wait.
