Just curious to see what the answers here might be.
Would you vote Tory if Kemi Badenoch was the Tory party leader and the election was tomorrow?
Feel free to answer any way you like, and I don't care about derailing. The question is quite tongue in cheek, don't take it too seriously, and have fun with it if you want, rant if you want. I'm trying to get a picture of the MN mood.

I would not vote Tory at all. This is the nastiest, most divisive, sinister government I have ever lived under.

MyLadyDisdainlsYetLiving · 03/10/2023 15:26

No because I could never vote for the Conservatives, whoever is in charge.

duc748 · 03/10/2023 15:28

Seems like the biggest group Mumsnetters fall into is 'Disenfranchised'.

bombastix · 03/10/2023 15:28

@lechiffre55 - don't be patronising. I'm sure you can read her comments re this treaty in the Times.

EasternStandard · 03/10/2023 15:31

Maybe. I’d have to hear more on a range of issues

I appreciate her push on women’s rights for sure

YokoOnosBigHat · 03/10/2023 15:34

Hahaha. Good one.

FizzingAda · 03/10/2023 15:37

I'd cut my hands off before I'd vote Tory.

ResisterRex · 03/10/2023 15:40

They do seem to be going for it. Labour can't just say nothing (especially on the first one). You'd assume this will be followed by more such tweets:

x.com/conservatives/status/1709166272225628405?s=46&t=WHoOZ_3Kv5G6-FyQuvE0LQ

"This is a common-sense approach to sex and equality.

While Labour’s Keir Starmer still works out what a woman is, we’re working to ensure their voices are heard in the NHS."

x.com/conservatives/status/1709207218027934071?s=46&t=WHoOZ_3Kv5G6-FyQuvE0LQ

"NEW: Conservatives are safeguarding scientific research from the denial of biology and the steady creep of political correctness.

@ michelledonelan announces plans to depoliticise science at #CPC23"

GrammarTeacher · 03/10/2023 15:57

I wouldn't focus on what they say but on their voting record. The benefit cuts and underfunding of health and education are much more damaging to women than the GRA has been or will be. They (including Badenoch) don't want equality for women in any sense. They may 'know what a woman is' but they also want us kept down in general and have no interest in any other aspect of women's rights issues.

RavingStone · 03/10/2023 15:58

No. I admire Kemi and appreciate what she's doing for women's rights.

I don't think all Tories are bastards or whatever. I'm utterly sick of Labour's cowardice and the appalling attitude of some of its MPs and supporters.

But I do not agree with Conservatives economically or on general "how people tick" or "how to treat members of a society fairly" issues.

I'm not convinced party politics is working tbh. I'd prefer cross party cooperation on stuff like women's rights, NHS and climate.

You're clearly too young to remember Labour's illegal war that killed millions and resulted in terrorism in this country killing kids at pop concerts etc. If you deem that to be better than what the tories have done then shame on you.
Personally I'd take someone eating cake when they shouldn't over illegal wars any time... but that is just me I guess. Lots still vote Labour (sadly I voted for them and am therefore partly guilty for the millions of deaths they caused).

Yes I marched against that war, I’m too young to remember the first Iraq war though, thatcher and major bumming Reagan and bush and them trying to secure the oil the first time round, killing Libyans , Egyptians and Kuwaitis. But don’t let history stop your propaganda-fed bias. Let me guess, daily mail reader? Go check how many of your beloved tories voted to join that war and did so with bells on the contracts for their war-machine mates. And what have the tories done lately? How many dying of fuel poverty and cost of living crisis and austerity measures? Or can’t you see us from up on your high horse? the rose-tinted glasses certainly aren’t helping you. Eating cake when they shouldn’t? Try carving up the nhs for profit and killing the elderly in care homes with their covid “policies.” Shame on you for living in your glamourised hate filled version of the past and refusing to see the immediate horror of the present.

RicePuddingLady · 03/10/2023 16:00

I agree with her gender critical views and I admire the way she has stood her ground on this issue, but I disagree with almost everything else she stands for.

She’s dreadful on race…and she’s a Tory.

Not a chance.

nzborn · 03/10/2023 16:03

Yes

CheshireCat1 · 03/10/2023 16:03

Definitely not.

bemorelemmy · 03/10/2023 16:03

yes

GrammarTeacher · 03/10/2023 13:56

Hell no. Look at her voting record in general. It's not one supportive of women's rights. Even if I agreed with her on trans issues (I don't), her voting record on welfare issues and human rights would have me running for the hills. She is not the friend of any type of feminist.

This. She is going on about the EHCR and like other moronic Tories seems to have wilfully forgotten that we cannot leave the EHCR due to the Good Friday agreement.

MadderthanMorris · 03/10/2023 16:08

No.

Gender ideology is bad, but fascism is worse.

Robbiesraft · 03/10/2023 16:09

@BlessedKali WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY

Its all posturing. Push come to shove, there will be no move to leave the ECHR, not even if Braverman gets the gig. There'll be no Net Zero referendum.

Robbiesraft · 03/10/2023 16:10

And why is this on the Feminisim board?

ILikeDungs · 03/10/2023 16:10

Yes. Look at her unafraid to talk common sense. And not just now, but for ages she has spoken the truth about the issues with gender woo. I've seen her face Caroline Nokes, who was nasty and dismissive, with determination to get the truth out rather than win some underhand playground battle. I see her as a different sort of politician, which is something we really need right now.

dontbenastyhaveapasty · 03/10/2023 15:02

It seems you were too young to remember any of the complexity around the Iraq war - not least that the Conservative Party were very enthusiastic about it and would have taken the exact same decision to join the Americans’ lead.

I was one of the many thousands of ordinary people who marched against that war, but the fact it happened is in no way a reason to vote Tory.

Perhaps you were also too young to remember the utterly shit state of public services before Blair won the 1997 election? Or to notice what a massive positive difference things like Sure Start and decent funding of the NHS made to this country?

I live in a city with a Labour administration which is so bad, wasteful, incompetent and corrupt that we've had government commisssioners in place for the last two years. Incompetence and corruption are not unique to any one party.

Of course Tony Blair was the one to derugulate the NHS and bring in elements of privatisation, including funding new hospitals with PFI's

Debenture · 03/10/2023 16:13

RebelliousCow · 03/10/2023 14:35

I live in s solid Labour area and actually used to be in the Labour Party. I think you'll find most left wingers really hate Kier Starmer, Rachel Reeves..anyone they think is too 'right wing'....They don't expect much different from them, at all.
They will have to deal with the exact same issues and difficulties as we currently face with no more money. The most they will be able to do is tinker around the edges with nice sounding slogans and fine sentiments; and do the odd ideological thing like charge people 20% more in private school fees, and further the cause of trans ideology.

I didn’t mention Labour.

You mean the ECHR?
The ECHR is the European Court of Human Rights.
The EHRC is the Equalities and Human Rights Comission.
They are two totally separate different organisations.
There is no such thing as the EHCR
