Yes¡ Just done a little victory dance. I hope it really is as good as it sounds.

On Tuesday, Steve Barclay will announce proposals to push back against “wokery” in the health service that has led to women’s rights being increasingly sidelined. The changes would give men and women the right to be cared for on wards only shared by people of their own biological sex, and to have intimate care provided by those of the same sex.Mr Barclay said the plan would mean the return of “a common-sense approach to sex and equality”, ensuring that women’s dignity was protected and their voices heard. The proposals follow concerns from patients and staff about biological men being allowed on to women’s hospital wards. In 2021, NHS guidance said trans patients could be placed on single-sex wards on the basis of the gender with which they identified.

Interesting - Keir Starmer from April. I don't remember this, it means he's in a tough place and can only support action

https://twitter.com/LabWomenDec/status/1648821377460232192?t=B3gbg2SC30nYR9tShTwZ_Q&s=19

“For me, patient security, safety and peace of mind comes first. That’s why we support single-sex wards,” he said, confirming that he meant single sex on the basis of biology.
“I think most hospitals want much greater clarity from the Government in terms of guidance.”

"Sir Keir, who in 2021 said it was “not right” to say that only women have a cervix, also warned against medical campaigns that caused confusion by using terms such as “people with a cervix” rather than “women”.twitter.com/LabWomenDec/status/1648821377460232192?t=B3gbg2SC30nYR9tShTwZ_Q&s=19

This is interesting as on this topic/story it states:

"The campaign for an outright ban has had cross-party support."

Suella Braverman to ban sex offenders from changing name and gender

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/4e2e437c-6159-11ee-aae8-b941e584b333?shareToken=cc407ffd3045dd612f30b7aa7f4f2666

Does that suggest that both parties know that this isn't going away? That they need to pay attention and maybe battle for our votes?

I get all the technical points about the GRA and its impact (also covered in the Times link above about how the ban there would work/not work) but not so long ago, we had near-total media silence. We had TRA sympathisers in key political appointment in government while the opposition was busy with its Facebook group, acting as Witchfinder General.

This is not the situation today.

Whats a genuine transwomen? 2 woman a week are killed by their partners. How many transwomen are hurt/killed a week in the UK?

There are more transpeople in prison fir murder than have been murdered in the past 10 years

Why is male violence towards both other males and women, womens problem to solve ?

Spaces are designated male/female/men/women not men/male and anyone who might not be safe in the.mens

There is no officially recognised statistic. Most police officers include trans women murders in the female murder statistic. Based on unofficial statistics 28 trans people have been killed in the UK from 2008-2017. According to this it makes the trans population as a whole one of the LEAST likely to be killed in the UK.

We need to stop with this "feeling sorry for..." malarkey.

I thought they are all fully grown mentally stable males who have made a perfectly legitimate decision in full knowledge of the consequences? What makes them any more vulnerable than any other male ? I mean they had a choice not to chop off body parts and get a boob job. If they couldn't cope with the alleged increased vulnerability then dont get it done. But don't expect everyone else to bail you out if your decisions. Own it. Like an adult

Exactly. These are not mentally ill people who deserve our sympathy. These are people who have made a conscious and deliberate choice to modify their bodies.

If a anyone is going to argue that in fact these are mentally fragile people, what the hell were the surgeons thinking when they made extreme and irreversible changes to the bodies of people who were mentally unwell and who thought that these modifications would improve their mental health?

GoodOldEmmaNess · 03/10/2023 10:17

Could someone explain a little bit more about the option to text an opinion to WH. If you text that number, does it register a specific opinion? If so, what is that opinion?

I want to register an opinion in favour of single-SEX (ie bio sex) wards

Well quite you cabt have it both ways ?

Either people know aged two, can consent to all sorts of interventions at a young age and if they have surgery as an adult they are fully informed and in a place to do so.

Or they are so weak and fragile amd mentally unstable that reality makes them suicidal in which case as u say, why is anyone doing surgeries on these people ?

Which is it. And why is it womens problem ?

nauticant · 03/10/2023 10:19

Emma Barnett asked the current, Dr Helen Neary, about the proposal. Dr Neary was very swervy over the isssue.

Quotes coming in are annoying

God the TRAs are going for it

nauticant · 03/10/2023 10:23

According to those writing in, there has never been a single problem over a transwoman in a women's ward.

You text an actual message, it's not a poll.

The WRN report revealed 6,500 sex attacks in English hospitals in three years.

To save everyone else also diving for a calculator, that's 6 a day.

Where do you get 28 from?

According to the transrights organisation Transrespect, the number for that period is 9 (nine).

I hope this happens. But this is Tory conference week, when they are trying to win over the hearts and minds of the Tory electorate (Nigel Farage is there ffs).

I wouldn’t put money on many of the headline grabbing statements, commitments, promises (call them what you will) coming to fruition before a general election. There will be lots of “ as we declared at the Conference” and “conference overwhelmingly endorsed our plans” chat on the doorstep and on discussion platforms, but until it is written into law it means nothing.

WinterTrees · 03/10/2023 10:30

I had to go and talk to the plumber while it was on 😡 Are they going back to it?

Could you provide a source for this JustAMinutePleass?

I can see where you are coming from and I agree with what you say but I must admit that I do view someone who has their physically healthy genitals/body parts removed mentally ill.

I can't imagine anyone who wasn't mentally ill would have their genitals removed because the whole concept is totally insane. I think that's why body dysmorphia was such a useful term. It recognised that the person with the diagnosis had a mental illness and as such could/should receive relevant mental health care and not irreversible surgery.

That doesn't mean to say I want post surgery trans women in a female hospital ward/loos/sport etc because I definitely don't.

I think the doctors and others facilitating the whole trans surgery set up have a lot to answer for and I hope one day they will be brought to account - ditto the whole cosmetic surgery set up which sickens me.

A testing ground, to see how policies might land?

I think they already know what goes down well with their voters. And what doesn’t. This is offering “proof” that would be popular ideas are being considered which candidates can then pull out of their pockets on the campaign trail, it isn’t “proof” that anything will be done, or that ideas will even be written into their election manifesto.

We haven’t got much without it.

The opposition would much prefer women didn’t talk about it at all.

Highandlows · 03/10/2023 10:41

Great! Pretty sure the party of the everything goes would not have done this.
