NC for this.
For a long time I have always said to myself if a LWS event came near to me, the least I could do was go along and show solidarity. Seeing what has happened elsewhere has made me so angry, it would be time to stand up and be counted.

Now there is an event next week, and I'm really surprised how nervous, even scared I am about going along just to listen, and really just wanted to reach out for advice, support, whatever.

I'm worried about the vitriol of protesters, the attitude of the police. I have worked in pretty 'captured' sectors and am concerned about being identified on social media, or by acquaintances - I'm fairly sure there'll be old contacts, people I like and who I have had time for - protesting or certainly vocally supporting the shutting down of KJK on the day. I guess I personally run the risk of being publicly 'outed' and losing friends and contacts that will have a real impact on things I do that mean a great deal to me.

Yet I feel if I don't go I will always regret not standing up and showing KJK support on my doorstep. I'm even worried about DM-ing the local Women's Rights Network as I tweet with my full name. Perhaps if anyone is on this board they can PM here, or give some info about plans for the day?

Sorry I haven't seen any threads about this LWS event so apologies if there is one already.

Threatening men who get off on intimidating women. Here's one with a weapon of some kind.

Boring, innit Mish?

Child sexual assault 🥱 aren’t we all sick of hearing about it?

(I mean yes we are because we would like it to never happen ever again, not because it’s dullsville hearing women talk about it. That’s just you.)

duc748 · 08/10/2023 15:24

I'm on the train home now. Well, that was a lot of fun. Wish I'd brought a cold drink, though. I was stood right by the pink balaclava boys. Couldn't hear anything at first, but then they seemed to beef up the PA a bit.

BaronMunchausen · 08/10/2023 15:27

Quite a few of those older men have lanyards round their necks. Don't know who they're representing, but they were shouting the c word at the women.

Wonder if they've been at the Labour thing?

ArabellaScott · 08/10/2023 15:35

'Lots of trade unionists, conference delegates and of course local women'

The protest crowd look largely big beefy blokes with sneers and planks of wood, to me, plus a few kids in pink balaclavas and a few nervously laughing women.

I am still trying to work out how they manage to convince themselves that it's the right thing to do to shout 'boring' at women talking about sexual assault. Or slurs like 'nazi scum' at a woman talking about her Jewish heritage.

Starting to get bored of her act to be fair. It's just the same stuff rehashed.

She really needs some new material to support the grift to keep going.

This you, Mishy? 😮

I do not wish to minimise the threatening behaviour of the counter-protesters, or the actual assaults on women that have taken place.

But there seems to be a lot of play-acting here. If they actually believe these women are Nazis, and there are way more on the counter side, why don't they break through the police lines and rush them?

That's what antifascists did to the Mosley movement in the 30s and the National Front in the 70s and it's one of the reasons fascism was never really able to get off the ground in Britain. That's what I'd do if I believed actual real Nazis were organising and their meetings were getting bigger all the time and I believed they were going to kill my friends.

So on some level they all know perfectly well that the women speaking aren't really fascists and women talking doesn't actually kill people.

Hope someone got up close enough to see who they were affiliated to. It's frightening that there are men like that in the Labour and Trade Union movement.

Maaate · 08/10/2023 15:54

It's just an excuse for them to abuse women and pretend that its justified

BaronMunchausen · 08/10/2023 15:56

They obviously don't - they're using Nazi and fascist as mere insult words. They give actual neo-fascists a wide berth.

BTW I've been told the women outnumbered the counter protesters, at least 60:40.

VaddaABeetch · 08/10/2023 15:57

Of course these men know these women are not facials or nazis. It’s the worse thing they can think to say.

They’re like small children shouting big fat poopie heads. It’s a ‘meaningless’ insult.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/10/2023 16:01

If they were proper activists they wouldn't just turn up to scream at women on a sunny day Simple's because it's close by. They hopped on Merseyrail from Heswall, went to Five Guys (not corporate at all) and wandered down before a pint in the Pump house.
Proper anarchists would be on hunger strike, not drinking Monster and living as little Japanese girl in an alternate AI world...

Haha, truly socking it to The Man.

VaddaABeetch · 08/10/2023 16:02

Fascist not facial.

This. ^^

The immaturity is front and centre in the obscenities and behaviours. This movement is a lovely bandwagon for dysfunction to enjoy a day out.

BaronMunchausen · 08/10/2023 16:15

The Labour men shouting abuse were more frightening than the lads in black.

She has a real point.

Starmer, look at the state of that?

duc748 · 08/10/2023 16:17

I saw guys with trades union tee shirts on both sides of the barrier.

AdrianaLaCerva · 08/10/2023 16:19

Labour men enthusiastically abusing women. Such a great look. Nice one Keir 👍

Those good men who'll get tanked up on in the White Star now and go home and commit domestic violence. The best of men on our streets, sorry their streets, fighting 'fascism' with mobile phones, 'progress' flag lanyards and pulled pork in their beards.

Brilliant. Thank you.

starfruittree · 08/10/2023 16:23

I know one of the people in this clip. At least he gets points for not hiding behind a mask because covid is on the rise again doncha know. He is 'be kind' to a degree beyond parody and a performer with a sizeable fan base of TQ nerds. He will have really convinced himself he's standing up against Nazis today. Ironic.
