NC for this.
For a long time I have always said to myself if a LWS event came near to me, the least I could do was go along and show solidarity. Seeing what has happened elsewhere has made me so angry, it would be time to stand up and be counted.

Now there is an event next week, and I'm really surprised how nervous, even scared I am about going along just to listen, and really just wanted to reach out for advice, support, whatever.

I'm worried about the vitriol of protesters, the attitude of the police. I have worked in pretty 'captured' sectors and am concerned about being identified on social media, or by acquaintances - I'm fairly sure there'll be old contacts, people I like and who I have had time for - protesting or certainly vocally supporting the shutting down of KJK on the day. I guess I personally run the risk of being publicly 'outed' and losing friends and contacts that will have a real impact on things I do that mean a great deal to me.

Yet I feel if I don't go I will always regret not standing up and showing KJK support on my doorstep. I'm even worried about DM-ing the local Women's Rights Network as I tweet with my full name. Perhaps if anyone is on this board they can PM here, or give some info about plans for the day?

Sorry I haven't seen any threads about this LWS event so apologies if there is one already.

Agree with what pp have said about Letts. An example of the pen being mightier than the sword indeed.

Am surprised that the Echo do not appear to have covered it as yet. Perhaps something will be incoming today. Very much expected a predictable first-person piece from one of their legion LGBT+ activist reporters full of the usual biased guff.

I always leave Hyde park with a sense of disbelief after these events. These protesters seem to have little idea about what they are shouting and how far what they are shouting misses the truth. And when you try to talk to them they are so defensively deaf that they accuse you of lying and just shout more.

The infantilising disguised as ‘caring’ messages they send out in their comms organising the event really just fits the nature of these protestors. They are so deep in their ‘safe space’ they cannot conceive what they are really achieving. In their chants, in their now very publicised intimidation and sometimes violence against the women who are actually saying ‘these are the male people we don’t want in female single sex spaces’ and in attempting to shut down free speech while declaring themselves to be tolerant, kind and loving.

It is so very contradictory to any person who is seeing them in action.

RebelliousCow · 09/10/2023 09:49

What really concerns me is the number of trade union representatives, members, Labour party delegates and activists who are happy to stand by and watch all of the above, and even take part.

LarkLane · 09/10/2023 10:18

I quite enjoyed reading that Letts article. He described perfectly these people to an even wider audience than the bystanders at the Alber Dock.

LarkLane · 09/10/2023 10:22

@starfruittree I was looking online in the early hours and couldn't see anything in the Echo, a bit surprising.
The bussed in rent a mob were the TRA's and "Robbie" from "Bristol". Oh and I'm glad the Jimmy Savile haircut person was mentioned.

I've also got a Nan crush on that amazing strong woman who did the piece into camera for Keir Starmer. What a gal!

Needmoresleep · 09/10/2023 11:08

If someone like Letts, who makes his living poking fun at the lunacy surrounding politicians, now sees TRA aggression as a suitable topic, we can hope others will. Private Eye perhaps?

He is only able to write a satirical piece because there is now sufficient public awareness of the trans rights campaign and what it really means. People will believe both that women just tried to be heard, and that they were shouted down.

Credit to Posie and others who have stubbornly demanded their right to speak.

Moomoola · 09/10/2023 11:11

Thank you for the photos.
I was totally struck by how the photos portray the two sides as more mature women and then young people and middle aged men.
then this made me laugh.

*I'm old enough to remember a very famous photograph where a Vietnam War protestor puts flowers into the barrels of soldiers' rifles.

I was thinking that next time we should all hand over a Tunnocks teacake.

Then tell them to tidy their room.*

Really good speeches. So well done everyone involved.

I'd guess that the Echo currently have their in-house TRA Paul McAuley refining propaganda so it passes as journalism to the casual reader.

BaronMunchausen · 09/10/2023 11:56

Not just because all those Labour women who mumble the agreed line, but because Labour Women's Declaration, who are also gender critical, wont speak up about women being harangued so that their voices are drowned out, because of who the messenger is.

One or two women who were there yesterday will also be at the LWD tonight. I suspect it will be mentioned as a concern that should be addressed regardless of feelings about KJK. The LWD venue has been held back for a lot longer for fear of the MRAs than LWS was.

Just seen the footage of men screaming abuse like 'shut your fcking mouth you stupid fcking tart'. So many aggressive, abusive men there. I don't know how TRAs can think this is a good look.

It’s the norm for TRAs

Why are we even entertaining this stuff anymore

They are thugs

Tallisker · 09/10/2023 12:29

I'm amazed afresh at KJK's sloganning genius. Let Women Speak - and the thugs scream No! Nothing to do with trans anything, just women being prevented from speaking. Great optics (not) for the screamers.

Froodwithatowel · 09/10/2023 13:10

Glad the article noted the tide of aggressive filth emanating from the mob.

Women trying to speak. Men behaving like thugs. Thank you for the very clear demo. That's the world Starmer et al think is 'the right side of history'.

They identify as being sane too.

Thanks for the heads up Baron, I've just checked again online. It's like it never happened.

I've just had the YouTube footage playing while I did other stuff, but stopped to re-watch the woman who spoke about being sexually assaulted as a nurse, when 3 other nurses (men) watched & encouraged it.

I was flabbergasted.

Does this still happen in the NHS? Excuse me for being naive, but it was shocking.

There was a report the other day about a female surgeon, I'm not sure if it was more than one, actually being sexually assaulted while she was trying to perform surgery.

Imnobody4 · 09/10/2023 15:58

Sorry haven't read the whole thread, but I was gobsmacked by the audacity of this - one of the shouting men is member of fire service union.

IcakethereforeIam · 09/10/2023 16:08

Wasn't there a report about widespread misogyny in the Fire Service?

IcakethereforeIam · 09/10/2023 16:10

But hey, they make tshirts with the progress pride flag on them 🙄

Honestly I'm at the point where any time I see an organisation talking about diversity but only flying this flag, I'm.going to assume that they actively discriminate against the other protected characteristics until it's fully proven otherwise.

IwantToRetire · 09/10/2023 16:20

Sorry to say but the Letts article is sniggering and dismissive.

Its written to get a laugh and in fact shows that the DM is no more committed to GC politics than any other corporation. For them it is just a handy angle to write anti Labour comments.

Its the sort of article that if if was the local tv news, would be the one at the end about a funny dog, or a lollipop lady retiring after 90s years of helping the little dears across the road.

And of course no other paper has written about it.

Why would they care about women being silenced when they can smooze and get gossip at the conference.

(Apparently the Labour Conference has something like twice the number of stalls than previous years, and the vast majority are businesses.)

duc748 · 09/10/2023 16:51

I agree. I do not like the Quentin Letts, never have.

RebelliousCow · 09/10/2023 16:59

Having managed to keep smiling yesterday and distance myself from all of the vitriol and abuse, and the 'in your face' encounters - that went on for two whole hours....I'm now feeling a lot of residual anger and rage - towards woke bros generally and towards those fucking idiotic kids who are not capable of practising what they preach. In fact I came down with a full on lights flashing/ zig zag lines migraine earlier

Strong agree and I think this is how we are going to see increasing amounts of articles leading up to the general election.

I'm concerned this only cements the existing association (amongst many) with the Conservative party, what's going to happen if (when?) they lose?

RebelliousCow · 09/10/2023 17:01

Being " associated" with the Conservative party is the very least of our worries. This shit is actually happening and everyone is going to vote for it, thereby endorsing it.
