Let Women Speak Liverpool - Sunday 8th October, 1-3pm

For a long time I have always said to myself if a LWS event came near to me, the least I could do was go along and show solidarity. Seeing what has happened elsewhere has made me so angry, it would be time to stand up and be counted.

Now there is an event next week, and I'm really surprised how nervous, even scared I am about going along just to listen, and really just wanted to reach out for advice, support, whatever.

I'm worried about the vitriol of protesters, the attitude of the police. I have worked in pretty 'captured' sectors and am concerned about being identified on social media, or by acquaintances - I'm fairly sure there'll be old contacts, people I like and who I have had time for - protesting or certainly vocally supporting the shutting down of KJK on the day. I guess I personally run the risk of being publicly 'outed' and losing friends and contacts that will have a real impact on things I do that mean a great deal to me.

Yet I feel if I don't go I will always regret not standing up and showing KJK support on my doorstep. I'm even worried about DM-ing the local Women's Rights Network as I tweet with my full name. Perhaps if anyone is on this board they can PM here, or give some info about plans for the day?

I was there. It was loud and overwhelming but as always just amazing to be with such great women. Ordinary women. I think the police accidentally end up penning us in because they were ill prepared, they had no choice because they needed to keep us safe. This meant there was no buffer zone. I was quite near the back and couldn't hear anything.

Trans Safety on Twitter alerted me that Charles Veitch was there. No idea who he is but here is his film. Interesting confrontation at around 6.25 with several men who say they are women.

Thanks for sharing this. No idea who he is either. Like Quentin Letts I think outsiders approaching with a sense of bemusement really has its uses here. Unfortunately it looks like only men could get away with it though.

What is apparent is once again the importing of so many stupid American tactics here - the intimidation, the pushing, even the bit with the protester with the stick - all out of the 'repent motherfucker' playbook. Goading people who are doing absolutely nothing wrong to try and get them into trouble with police. It's pathetic.

One of the Transmaids beckoned me over to the barrier this is roughly the conversation.
Woman: do you know the Tories have been embezzling money?
Me:What? I'm not here to talk about that I'm hear to listen to women speaking about their experiences, their abuse, sexual trauma, rape.
Woman: but don't you care about the big picture
Me: I'm hear to listen to women not talk about general politics
Woman: but don't you see it's all connected
Me: I'm sure it my darling, I've been alive a lot longer than you, but I'm not discussing that today.
Woman: but I'm sure you believe that small injustices are as bad as big injustices.
Me: damn right I do that's why I'm here focusing on this crap
Woman: so you focus on just one issue
Me: yep I'm a single issue woman and I'll vote for the candidate, not a party, who knows what a woman is, an adult human female
Woman: but don't you see this is a distraction
Me: too right it's a bleeping distraction having to get men out of my spaces stopping children be harmed (I used the m word). But here we are I have to waste my energy on this. And when this is all over I can get back to proper politics.

To be honest I did swear a lot and the woman complained about my loud voice to which I had to tell her I had to shout because her lot were making so much noise that I couldn't hear and I was deaf because I'm bloody old!

As I was leaving a he/him woman girl (it's hard to tell they look so young but they must be women not girls) also asked me something. Being rather deaf I had to go over to her.
He/him She: if your child was trans would you still love them?
Me: my child wouldn't be trans
Her: but what if they were?
Me: they wouldn't be trans because of biological reality.

I think I was shocked that she thought a mother could stop living their child for any reason. She had a very posh accent and no doubt very supportive and affirmative parents and was terribly worried for the poor children who had mothers like me who believes that people can't change sex!

These young women no nothing of what it is like to be a mother. She doesn't know me. She doesn't know that my first born daughter would've been 18 years old last month if she hadn't died at 9 months old. But yeah go ahead and imagine I'm the monster you've been told I am.

Of course Trans_Safety haven't shared the video and you can never comment on there posts so if those on twitter would like to quote post their far right post and add the video so people get to see what they are talking about I think that would be useful.

I think the video and FemaleAndLearning in two very contrasting ways shows what the problem is.

These (mainly) young people genuinely thing their experience of the world is what the world is.

And they are so busy conforming to what others are doing they have no idea that on one level how silly they are (video) but on another so despicably lacking in humanity (ie how the real lives of women are far, far more than shouting slogans to please men)

The Charles Veitch video was amusing. He got away with it, though, because he's a 6ft,5 man who also has a way of disarming people with humour.

I'm glad they got some push back that made them look silly, even to themselves.
