I'd say Russell T Davies when he had his drunken rant. I get his concern that lgbt is being fractured. But his absent concern for Women and their rights was palpable. I honestly thought he had more sense.

On the other side, I've been surprised by some news outlets, in a good way. The Sunday Independent, which can be tabloidesque in the extreme has written intelligently & consistently on the issue, and importantly given a platform to those (like David Quinn) whose opinions I would generally not agree with, but who I still think have the right to be heard, without being screamed manically at, in the post-Catholic Ireland we've become.

Yes, and the Morning Star - firmly for women's rights. and criticising TWAW ideology as reactionary. Lots to say about women's oppression and protecting our rights v the role TWAW ideology plays in dividing Workers.

So many that it would start to resemble Arya Stark's hit list. Like a PP, it is profoundly sad, seeing the people you thought were clear-eyed and brave, cringing away from the truth and mouthing the received 'wisdom' to avoid cancellation.

Shodan · 18/09/2023 19:39

Oh I forgot one.

The WI.

I was thinking about joining, then read that they now admit men. Not the WI anymore then.

HelenFisksBrownSuit · 18/09/2023 19:43

Everyone already mentioned, plus the Girl Guides and the Quakers.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 18/09/2023 19:44

I look at people like Alice Roberts and Dara O'Briain and Robin Ince in particular, all the smug "Ooh look at me, what a clever rational person I am, I believe in science, you don't get much past me" crowd, and I utterly despise them.

Their whole careers have been based on their supposed rational, strictly evidence-based perspective, with people expressing religious views slapped down as foolish and not very bright.

Now they're every bit as ardent as those religious people whose views they despise - it's just a different religion.

They've reduced their intellectual careers to the level of The Masked Singer, where they tell you 'facts' and you have to guess which of them is true and which is a lie.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 18/09/2023 19:45

Which guy out of Black Books, by the way?

ElizaMulvil · 18/09/2023 19:47

Honourable mention for (Labour) Professor Lord Winston re 'mutilation' of bodies- ' you can't change sex - it's in every cell of your body'. - 'people are afraid to say these things.'

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 18/09/2023 19:51

for me it's the BBC

although I think they were actually kind of shit all along and this just made me see it

but I always thought it was a broadly 'right thinking' (ho ho, yes, I know thinking that there was such a thing as 'right thinking' made me a moron) organisation and I was aligned with them

Watching MNHQ twist and turn and tie themselves in knots to try to shut the nasty women up during 2016-2018 or so was quite informative too

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 18/09/2023 19:53

but I just find anyone who is seriously prepared to pretend that they think some men are women and some women are men unbelievably disappointing. If any of them could explain why they believe what they say they believe I'd be able to have some respect for them

but they never can, of course

IsThePopeCatholic · 18/09/2023 19:54

Oxfam. Their appalling treatment of JKR. I used to support them. No more.

Agree. My older son is obsessed with charity shops and I reluctantly went in an Oxfam one a few days ago.

Way back in the day my sister used to work in the overseas aid sector and what was revealed subsequently about sexual abuse of vulnerable people came as little surprise to her (and me as she used to rant about it- that and Save the Children). Way before stuff came to light.

Cancelledcurio · 18/09/2023 19:57

@FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper
Dylan Moran which is really disappointing as found him hilarious and fancied the arse of him for years. Nasty about Glinner too. He's got shite as he has got woke as well.

Mary Beard actually admits in the Times article upthread that she doesn't speak out on gender because she's 'a coward'. I suspect that means she's probably tending towards GC because I don't think we're anything to be frightened of. I don't blame her really for wanting to sit this one out. But it's a pretty damning indictment on GI and its supporters, for all that it's unsaid.

saw that she and Jo Phoenix are going to have a chat in person sometime soon

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/09/2023 19:59

Women's charities, women's rape organisations, women's health organisations.

Most celebs are a bit thick, attention seeking and self obsessed so I don't have high expectations.

StoatofDisarray · 18/09/2023 20:00

@ElizaMulvil yes to the Morning Star!

This too. I don't have any respect for anyone who believes it.

WarriorN · 18/09/2023 20:01

I adored the guardian as a young 20 something. Bought it every Saturday. Even used the dating site.

It disappoints me daily

I'd forgotten that he had a column but I don't remember reading it.

Makes so much more sense now.

Cancelledcurio · 18/09/2023 20:02

Hope Not Hate
Started out as a great campaign against the far right and extremists. I have leafleted for them in the past . They can go f themselves now as they now include women gathering to talk about their rights extremist trans phobes and not the men in black masks protesting said women aggressively. HNH can f off.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/09/2023 20:03

Yes i remember his Guardian football column which to me smacks of "we neeeeeeeeed to give this man a column, what shall we give him?"

Yes they are totalitarian arseholes.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 18/09/2023 20:06

Ah, thanks, Cancelledcurio.

I didn't know if you meant him, Bill Bailey or one of the more minor characters. That's a shame about Dylan; all of these edgy comedians who don't even question the stinking obvious now.

I trust that he refuses to accept any royalties from re-runs, if he despises the man who wrote it?

Calistano · 18/09/2023 20:28

I honestly feel like I've gone a bit mad most days. The only places that talk sense are here and conspiracy places, the conspiracy bit doesn't really help in the sense of reality stakes Grin

I think this goes for a lot of these men, that I just posted on another thread:

I don't think he's a true believer, he just thinks women should move over. That probably goes for a lot of these men. They're not batshit, just sexist and misogynistic.

The NHS.
The Judiciary.
Rape Crisis.
Women's Aid.
The MoJ.
The DoE.
EHRC.
Every single fucking politician in the Scottish Parliament bar a very few.
Every single Labour Party MP.
Every single Green Party MP bar a very few.
The Guardian.
The BBC.
Academia in general.
Most writers, particularly Stephen King the craven fucking arsehole.
Most artists.
Most journalists.
Most musicians.
Most comedians.

Such a depressingly loooong list. Sadly I agree with you. So disappointing.
