Tough Crowd, due out 12 October. I’m delighted to see this. He is such a good writer and has sacrificed so much in defence of women’s rights and reality itself. Hope it’s a smash hit.

I would love to see Glinner invited on podcasts, telly, radio and Mumsnet to discuss his new book. But I suspect that he’ll only be invited to be on podcasts hosted by heterodox thinkers e.g. Brendan O’Neill, Andrew Doyle; maybe Peter Boghossian 🤔

They could have him on Newsnight. Or C4 News....

RoyalCorgi · 30/09/2023 18:45

If the book sells really well - and it looks as if it will do - will that make broadcasters and newspapers change their mind? People like Newsnight and the Guardian, I mean. Or will they just continue to ignore him? How long can you pretend that this is a phenomenon that isn't worth reporting on?

AInightingale · 30/09/2023 19:03

The bestseller that everyone will ignore?

Funnily enough, I was trying out the 'Ziffit' app the other day (my mum is having a clear out). It's a site where you send used books and receive cash. When I entered the ISBN for Helen Joyce's 'Trans' (my book but just experimenting) I got a message to say they 'could not accept' it. Didn't happen with any other book, even the most obscure ones I entered. Odd?

duc748 · 30/09/2023 19:06

I'm a bit optimistic on that. The Guardian appears to be 'pausing for thought' a little, at last (maybe something to do with the writers they've lost, and the bad PR resultant from that).

Radyward · 30/09/2023 20:21

Saw that on mail online too. Like 13 people typing and 11 comments only
That does not add up!! Censorship at its finest
Im shocked he is getting any publicity at all !! He co wrote motherland

I’ve used Ziffit quite a few times and often had this, with old and new and obscure vs mass-produced stuff so tbh I don’t think it’s that unusual.

Hurrydash · 01/10/2023 01:46

I don't understand these things.
Can anyone please explain how this book - clearly massively popular - was at number 2 in the Amazon chart when pre orders became available, and now doesn't feature in their top 100 list?

WTF?

Abhannmor · 01/10/2023 06:48

I know @Hurrydash . Bit of a mystery that isn't it? Newspaper serialisation is obviously going to be important.

TheGreatATuin · 01/10/2023 07:47

He's really not pulling his punches, is he? But then I suppose that's what happens when the mob takes away everything. They've got nothing left to threaten him with. He's got no reason to hold his tongue and he's rightly furious.
Very much looking forward to reading the whole thing.

Abhannmor · 01/10/2023 08:12

Only 1 comment but 11.2k likes now. Maybe it's just a clunky site ?

MyLadyDisdainlsYetLiving · 01/10/2023 08:36

It’sa great read, looking forward to the book even more.

““Misgendering' became taboo practice because of the combined efforts of trans activists and the privileged members of the laptop classes enforcing the new orthodoxies but it's a taboo that has been imposed without debate or consent.
^^
Which is why, according to our new ethical overlords, an Oscar-nominated actress has re-emerged as a man called Elliot Page, and activists and 'progressives' consider it a hate crime even to mention Elliot's former name.
^^
But these taboos, supposedly driven by 'kindness', empower the most dangerous men in society. If we rewire our brains to such an extent that we see men as women, it will be easier for opportunistic predators such as Adam Graham – the double rapist almost admitted to a Scottish women's prison by Nicola Sturgeon's government – to access single-sex spaces across society, not just in prison.””

LoobiJee · 01/10/2023 09:15

These weren't transsexuals. These were just men, acting under a variety of motives, some benevolent, some far less so. But crucially, under self-ID, there was no way for women to tell the difference.
^^
This led me to investigate some of the people being protected by this uniquely violent form of discourse.”
^^
“I have nothing but contempt for politicians, charity bosses and journalists who thrust [xxxx] into the spotlight, abandoning all critical thinking on hearing the word 'trans' and silencing whistleblowers who tried to raise the alarm. [xxxx] is one example of what I called a 'central outlier', someone supposedly unrepresentative of the 'trans community' yet who was lauded and promoted within it.
^^
There are others. The muddiness of the word 'trans' empowers opportunistic men, even as it disempowers children and women.”

[name redacted as it seems to trigger post deletions.]

A quote by James Morton of the Scottish Trans Alliance, one of the main drivers of the Scottish Prison Service's transgender policy (which was put in place in 2014 and remains in place. Bryson was only moved due to public outcry) -

‘We strategized – we strategized – that by working intensively with the Scottish Prison Service to support them to include trans women as women on a self-declaration basis within very challenging circumstances, we would be able to ensure that all other public services should be able to do likewise’.

Helleofabore · 01/10/2023 09:25

Always worth remembering that quote wait

teawamutu · 01/10/2023 10:14

Damn, he's a good writer. Really looking forward to the book. Excellent that he got the Challenor saga in there, I'd like to think the Lib Dems and Greens might be asked a few more questions.

Fabulous article.

That man is amazing, and so articulate.

This is the first authoritative history of a bizarre illogical movement.

The Mail usually moderate comments on difficult subjects in advance. A good thing because if not they would end up with a bunch of looney rants, and perhaps legal problems. They almost always include some with the opposite viewpoint, which inevitably get voted down.

SeptemberSky · 01/10/2023 11:05

I’ve pre ordered his book (Tough Crowd) from Amazon, £18.19. I hope it’s a best seller.

AutumnCrow · 01/10/2023 11:38

That's a breathtaking read, with its combination of Graham Linehan's pithy, articulate style and what for many will be the shocking nature the subject matter.

More comments are coming online now, with huge support for Graham Linehan.

ArabeIIaScott · 01/10/2023 11:50

Crikey, that's clear.

PaperWalkAndTalk · 01/10/2023 11:59

I've been trying to get this from my library (Essex libraries) yet the book isn't listed and they normally get everyone else's autobiographies.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 01/10/2023 12:01

It's not yet published, PaperWalkAndTalk, it's due out on the 12th.
