Tough Crowd, due out 12 October. I’m delighted to see this. He is such a good writer and has sacrificed so much in defence of women’s rights and reality itself. Hope it’s a smash hit.

There'll he a statue of him built when this war is won.

Yeah, Graham really is the bravest of good men.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 14/09/2023 07:37

Thank for the heads up, I will buy this come payday

The running grace comes out in a couple of weeks too, lots of reading for me this month!

Musomama1 · 14/09/2023 07:44

So so happy to see that from the likes of Ayoade.

When I think of Linehan I often think of his cameo in Garth Merenghi's Darkplace - the cult comedy cowritten by Ayoade and that launched his and Matt Berry's careers, pre I.T. Crowd .

So great to see one of his peers is sticking up for him.

Wanderingowl · 14/09/2023 07:53

I really hope that Ayoade knew that his quote would be on the front of the book and that he is fully prepared for the backlash. I'll be very happy if he just quietly ignores the tantrum and doesn't recant.

Slothtoes · 14/09/2023 07:59

That all sounds excellent. Looking forward to buying it. It will be a hit I predict.

CorylusAgain · 14/09/2023 08:04

Brilliant. That's a happy purchase to be made.
Really pleased to see high profile endorsements too!

Can you IMAGINE the fervour with which our bobble hated friend will be scouring the pages looking for something to sue about.
I hope Graham doesn't mention him at all. He shouldn't even be a footnote in history.

Hatted. The bobbles may also hate him, I suppose, but he's brought them so much publicity I doubt it.
Aren't we meant to be able to edit now?

Given the furore over the quotes on Jordan Peterson's book, and the contentiousness of the trans issue, you'd hope this was all above board. I'm sure if Glinner has final approval it will be. It's vital this book stands on its content, without giving further ammunition to TRAs.

People like Ayoade, Roisin Murphy etc shouldn't be forced into being campaigners and that neutral ground can take some of the heat out of things so I think has its uses. However you 'can't unsee' these things, as the likes of John Boyne have found out.

Abhannmor · 14/09/2023 06:34

All my friends will receive this for Christmas!

If you can, please order/pre-order it now - apparently it makes a big difference to bestseller lists and also what shops order in.

Deadringer · 14/09/2023 08:24

I never buy books (lack of space) but I will be buying this one, I hope it does really well. Surprised at Jonathan Ross sticking his neck out but glad that he did, fair play to him.

SomersetBrie · 14/09/2023 08:35

Where are people ordering from - especially to get a signed copy?
I read his free substack not the paid one so am I missing out?

And it's not a matter of if I preorder it's when and where.

There is a bit of a trend in publishing at the moment of taking a small quote from an unflattering review out of context and putting it on the cover/publicity materiel as if it was positive. The Society of Author's may be officially calling it "morally questionable" now but it's been going on for years. Long, long before the quotes for Peterson's book caused them to virtue signal. It's been seen as something of a jokey fuck you to reviewers for quite a while now. And I get why it happens but I don't like it.

In a situation like this where Ayoade has never spoken on this issue, I just really, really hope he's fully prepared for his denouncement. It's likely his agent/management people will be in overdrive trying to make him backtrack, which is why I think so many celebrities recant. So I hope he's ready to just ignore and get on with his life.

I'm a paid subscriber and got the mail yesterday announcing the book and a number of signed copies available for subscribers.

I'm going to buy it, of course - but weighing up whether it's better to buy via that link (and of course I'd love a signed copy) or pre-order from somewhere that might have an effect on chart status

Any thoughts? @Glinner?

Very good point.
I was thinking local independent book might be a good bet?
Not looking for the cheapest option here, looking for the best way to support and make a point.

It's completely ridiculous. The quote is nothing more than a comment on his writing skills. Graham is a very talented writer and his views on any subject under the sun don't change that.

His detractors it would seem wish to deny reality about absolutely everything. Even if you don't like someone the grown up thing to do is accept people are multi faceted.

No doubt though this will be hyperbolically spun from Ayoade says Linehan is a brilliant writer to Ayoade wants people to die.

Martinisarebetterdirty · 14/09/2023 08:47

I’ve preordered on Amazon, the first hardback I’ve ever paid full price for and totally worth it.

AnneVeronica · 14/09/2023 08:50

I wonder if he'll get the opportunity to promote it on MSM. Hopefully, the Mail and Telegraph will review it.

Abhannmor · 14/09/2023 08:51

I'll order it as soon as I wake up properly @CraggyIslandTouristBoard !

Yea I hope Richard and Jonathan don't cop too much flak over the reviews. Hold tight lads - the misogynist mob are a minority. They failed to cancel Róisín.

Pudmyboy · 14/09/2023 08:56

I thought Glinner wrote the IT crowd with Richard Ayoade specifically in mind for the part of Moss so I hope they have a connection. Matt Berry threw Glinner under the bus and the other two seem to have just kept their heads down. Such a shame as it's a brilliant show. Anyway @glinner: as Father Ted said: 'Good luck with the book!' I will be buying it for sure!

Brewdug · 14/09/2023 08:58

Are they related by marriage somewhere along the line or am I confusing him with someone else?

Richard Ayoade is Lozza Fox's brother in law.

Brewdug · 14/09/2023 09:07

Ah that's the one Maaate. Thanks.

I'm a Glinner subscriber and checked out the pre-order link and it's worth seeing Ayoade's contribution in full. It's... unequivocal to say the least. Cant take that back, can he!

Great, will be buying.
And I will be buying from a book shop so can check it’s being stocked. If it isn’t stocked, will be asking why.

It's insane to think that a memoir from a successful comedy writer could ever 'not be stocked' but this is where we are. How can the other side really think they're the right side of history when they try and suppress and ban books? Women aren't trying to stop trans ideology books being stocked - no matter how awful they are.

I will be buying for myself and for Christmas presents too.

I'll be watching this thread to see if someone in the know can advise on the best place to pre-order for the bestseller lists etc.

Yes, and they're men (how can we tell? It's a mystery!) so they're unlikely to get the full on 'die in a fire/ suck my d*ck terf' treatment like Róisín did.

Rightsraptor · 14/09/2023 09:11

I'm worried that Richard A might have naively thought 'it's a comment on Graham's writing skills, nothing more. I'm not saying I agree with him on anything' and not realise how utterly vindictive and nasty these new Puritans are. I really hope I'm wrong and he's geared up for battle.

I'll definitely be buying copies.
