Tough Crowd, due out 12 October. I’m delighted to see this. He is such a good writer and has sacrificed so much in defence of women’s rights and reality itself. Hope it’s a smash hit.

Is it in your junk mail bit vegemite?

Not yet. OH ordered it and he hasn't set up the junk mail facility yet so gets everything.

It's good to know the publisher is overwhelmed, isn't it.

Oh I ordered from Amazon so perhaps you have to order directly from the publisher to be signed? Wish I had known x

Perhaps it's not too late to cancel the order from Amazon and reorder from Eye Books?

porridgecake · 26/09/2023 18:42

Sorry, I slightly misquoted what they said. The gist was correct though.

porridgecake · 26/09/2023 18:45

Bless him. He will have RSI from all the signing. I hope he and the publishers make a fortune.

duc748 · 26/09/2023 18:49

Just checked my Junk folder, and there it is! Signed copy on the way. Woot! 😃

DialSquare · 26/09/2023 18:58

I've just found mine in the junk folder too. Woohoo!

ButDaddyILoveHim · 26/09/2023 19:56

I'll have to wait until Friday (payday) but will order direct from the publisher then. Thank you @glinner.

Barbiesdreamhousenotmojodojocasahouse · 26/09/2023 20:28

Mine also in the junk folder, whoop!

Barr77 · 26/09/2023 21:39

I’ve ordered directly from the publisher too.

Does anyone know how many books it takes to become a runaway best seller? 10,000?

I hope Glinner’s heart lifts a little when he sees the the growing support materialising into book sales.

IcakethereforeIam · 26/09/2023 21:44

Perhaps a bunch have been bought by tras so they can burn them 😁

Sooty20235 · 26/09/2023 21:48

I love that on amazon it recommended buying it with JK's new book as they are commonly bought together!

IcakethereforeIam · 26/09/2023 22:06

I had a look at 'customers also bought'. By page 4 it's unflavoured toothpaste and peppermint tea bagsConfused. The 'Gay Shame' book looks interesting. Yay, Roisin Murphy.

I will do this! Thank you x

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 27/09/2023 07:38

The delivery message has arrived now. Looking forward to reading this.

Musomama1 · 27/09/2023 07:40

Got my delivery message too which I sent back a supportive message to. It's my early Christmas present to myself 😀

More to the point, I hope his bank balance lifts massively.

Both because he bloody deserves it, but because a runaway profitable success will help the publishers and maybe other companies will see and get a bit braver.

Abhannmor · 27/09/2023 08:38

I got same email from Dan Hiscocks. So the book can't be despatched til October 8th. Signed. It sounds like it is selling well. Had a quick sconce at Amazon and they seem to be doing their best to bury it. Pushing the usual crap stocking fillers.

Perhaps they took fright when it was # 2 in pre orders ?

IcakethereforeIam · 27/09/2023 10:56

Even though I've not read this yet, I bet it would make great TV, or even a film or a play. Could be a double bill with the Father Ted musical.

Battytwatty · 27/09/2023 13:47

I think I will suggest it next time it’s my choice at book club.

IcakethereforeIam · 26/09/2023 18:06

Just checked my in box and I had this

Oh that's brilliant Smile

I ordered the Kindle version from Amazon so I wouldn't have seen this so thanks very much for sharing it!

Just pre-ordered (while listening to Róisín Murphy).

RA is an intelligent man, he'll have known what he was getting into.

On the subject of intelligent, science-driven men, I'm rapidly losing respect for Dara O'Briain.

Utter prick

It would. A sort of docudrama maybe. I'm old enough to remember hard hitting plays getting commissioned. The likes of David Hare , Ken Loach or Mike Leigh would tackle awkward subjects.

One thing for sure , it won't be ruined by Hollywood. Because they won't touch it.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 27/09/2023 17:21

Can we actually refer to him as 'science-driven' anymore? Same with Alice Roberts - whenever she comes on TV, I think 'she used to be a scientist'.

Abhannmor · 27/09/2023 17:49

Like Robin Ince and de Grasse Tyson. Perhaps, as Max Planck observed , progress happens one funeral at a time. Kids at school today will bin this fad very quickly. More sense than 'science'.

And it took long enough for the world's greatest biologist to come off the fence? Very disappointing.

MaryLivingOnDreamsAndCustardCreams · 27/09/2023 21:31

I've ordered directly from the publisher but didn't see anything about the book being signed. Was it just the first so many ordered?
