Tough Crowd, due out 12 October. I’m delighted to see this. He is such a good writer and has sacrificed so much in defence of women’s rights and reality itself. Hope it’s a smash hit.

@lilifer yep you need to log on to amazon website on your phone, into your account and you can buy the kindle book there.
It's an annoying system!

ihavespoken · 15/09/2023 09:40

Wooh number 1!!

Has anyone struggled to pre order from Amazon?
It won't let me order it to my address (in England). I've struggled with a pre order before so don't think anything sinister, just wondering if anyone found a way around.
Otherwise I'll go to the publisher..

Wooh number 1!!

Where is everyone seeing this? It's still No. 2 when I look on Amazon.

Toomie · 15/09/2023 10:01

Ovahere
I think it may just be a mistake. It's number one in quite a number of sub categories (performance art biographies etc) but still number two in books overall.

If you glance at the book's page, you might just see that it's displaying No 1 without realising it's referring to a category

Does anyone have any idea of the sort of volume of sales you need to be making to get to that position in Amazon Bestsellers?

ArabeIIaScott · 15/09/2023 10:07

Lots.

Google tells me that (in the US) you need to sell between 3,500 - 5000 in the first 24 hrs to hit the No 1 spot.

I assume the UK is similar.

'In order to hit #1 on Amazon, you’ll need to sell somewherebetween 3,500 and 5,000 copies in 24 hours.
Want to hit top 10? You’ll need to sell roughly 300 for print, or 2,000+ copies for combined formats. Those numbers aren’t exactly set in stone, but they’re a pretty close approximation.'

That's not counting the - was it 8k? - books sold direct from the publisher.

No, US and UK numbers, and print runs, are vastly different. US market is hugely enormously bigly compared to the UK.

Helleofabore · 15/09/2023 10:10

And that is not including the chunk of signed copies sold directly from the publisher! Of which there seems to be huge quantities.

Which means that article I quoted above is also wrong!

I had thought it was a UK one ... will try again.

In that case I don't know then.

This sales calculator suggests a rank of #2 on Amazon UK means a book has sold:

159-320 /day
770-9600 /month

I couldn't work out whether the number assigned from the publisher was purely for Glinner's book though. The order number might encompass all sales of all books on the site.

It's clearly doing very well so I'm not trying to diss it. Just that it's not easy to work out exact figures at this stage. I'm sure in time Glinner will have access to the numbers himself.

Slothtoes · 15/09/2023 10:17

This is fabulous. Glinner you’re a star.

Please can everyone buying any GC books also remember to go into your local library and ask them to order them in, as a little women’s rights task?

WorriedMutha · 15/09/2023 10:31

Just ordered and my ref is 8498. Given the last person's declared ref, it must have sold approx 26 in an hour. Good going for a Friday morning.

RoyalCorgi · 15/09/2023 10:32

I also think sales positions are distorted by the Richard Osman effect. Most bestsellers sell no more than a few thousand copies a week - the Thursday Murder Club books sell tens of thousands, sometimes hundreds of thousands. In the week a new book in the series comes out, the sales will be particularly high. It's not unlike the Harry Potter books in their day.

I've just logged into my local library account and sent a request that they purchase it. Can I suggest that anyone who is a member of their local library do the same? Where I am, it's Libraries West and I sent a request by logging into my library account, searching for the title and when it didn't come up, following the suggestions on how to request that it be ordered.

Tinysoxxx · 15/09/2023 10:50

How many signatures can you write in a day? That’s a lot to do by October, they better come off the printing press soon!

CorruptedCauldron · 15/09/2023 10:52

Well done Glinner! The book is selling like hot cakes. It goes to show what a goldmine the shelved Father Ted musical would be. More fool those who cancelled it!
