Tough Crowd, due out 12 October. I’m delighted to see this. He is such a good writer and has sacrificed so much in defence of women’s rights and reality itself. Hope it’s a smash hit.

Bloody hell it's at #3 on Amazon in the Top 100. I'm a bit emotional. This brings me home.

Off to preorder the Kindle edition. If it gets to #1 it'll be labelled that way on the listing (and end up as an aside in reviews in the Mail and Telegraph at least).

Not that cancelled then by non meeja Twitterati then...

Number 2 behind Richard Osman's latest one now, although I suspect it probably isn't going to get any higher than that given how well RO sells. Still, an impressive early showing.

Just like they only spotted the supposed racism and anti-semitism in Harry Potter after JKR stood up for women

I'm always bemused by that. Amazing how the books were out for almost twenty years, broke world records, written up in every major newspaper across the world but somehow no one noticed all this supposed bigotry.
Very mysterious.

Also some moron somewhere who hates women cries every time a copy is bought.

😂

Sold.

#2 on Amazon. That's truly fucking amazing.

Vebrithien · 15/09/2023 07:36

Ordered.

Ordered via Amazon, because I loved seeing the picture at position #2 when I opened up the Book and Reading home page.

Hardback, and just like a PP, this'll be the first hardback I have purchased since the late, great Terry Pratchett.

We will no longer be silenced.

I hope @glinner (think I've got it right!) manages to catch up on this thread, and feels the love and approval. Although he might be nursing RSI, from all the signed copies...

Toomie · 15/09/2023 08:04

Just bought on Amazon and also phoned our (brilliant) local bookshop to pre-order through them as well. Spoke to the owner and when I mentioned the book she enthusiastically said "Oh yes, I've just heard about that. I'll definitely be stocking it"

JFDIYOLO · 15/09/2023 08:07

Fantastic!!

Second only to Richard Osman in the best sellers 🤗

And trending on Twitter X for all the right reasons

"And from me, and anyone else that wasn't there 'in those early days' and hadn't realised WTF was was going, a massive thanks. Some good people have to stand up for the truth."

Alexander Solzhenitsyn (LIve not by Lies).
"And the simplest and most accessible key to our self-neglected liberation lies right here: Personal non-participation in lies. Though lies conceal everything, though lies embrace everything – not with any help from me. This opens a breech in the imaginary encirclement caused by our inaction. It is the easiest thing to do for us but the most devastating for the lies. Because when people renounce lies it simply cuts short their existence. Like an infection, they can exist only in a living organism."

This is going to be the first hardback I've bought since the magnificent Invisible Women by Caroline Criado Perez

Graham Linehan’s Book
Lilifer · 15/09/2023 08:09

Does anyone know how I can get this on kindle? The Amazon app appears to Ofer it on kindle but then says the app doesn't support buying it, it doesn't make sense 😕

Toomie · 15/09/2023 08:10

Posted before I had finished 🙄
One of the copies is for my partner, who still doesn't get it but is a huge fan of Graham Linehan's work, and Richard Ayoade too.

Have a feeling that this has huge potential to reach and get through to a lot of people, especially men of a certain age,who haven't grasped what all the fuss is about yet.

Very well played, Graham!

It's not out yet, but you should be able to pre order.

tbh i think a lot of it came (the complaints of anti-semitism anyway) after the films actually showed the goblins. Who look, to be fair, like most portrayals of goblins since they were first drawn.

But haters gotta hate.

Vebrithien · 15/09/2023 08:23

@Lilifer I don't think you can buy kindle books via the app. I think you are to go to the online Kindle store (webpage), although I've never tried to pre-order a kindle book

Thank you - I will try that. 🙌🏻

Lilifer · 15/09/2023 08:29

I normally can buy kindle books via the Amazon app, in fact I don't think I have ever bought them any other way. If you go to the kindle shop it only offers the actual kindle it self, not books etc. is it becasue it's not available in shops yet? I would have thought one could still pre order it in the same way you can pre order the had copy

I’ve preordered the Kindle version on the Amazon website. (I’ve never used the app so don’t know about that)

Follow the link Link and just click on pre order - it's not out until October 12th and that's when it will appear on your kindle / in the app.

By a quirk of fate the last First Edition hardback book I ordered (pre-ordered) was one of the Harry Potters (not signed though). About twenty years ago.

Musomama1 · 15/09/2023 09:10

Just pre ordered.

Glinner has been involved, as a writer or doing a cameo, in just about every comedy show that I have truly loved and shaped how I look at the world: Partridge, Day Today, Father Ted, Motherland, Fast Show, Darkplace...

So I'll be treasuring that signature.

ArabeIIaScott · 15/09/2023 09:13

Ooh.

https://www.thebookseller.com/rights/eye-books-to-publish-linehans-professional-memoir

'The book will be serialised by two major newspapers'

and

'When asked if he expects bookshops to stock the title, Hiscocks said: “As a small independent publisher, getting retail support for any of our titles is a constant challenge. In this case, we’re expecting very strong customer demand but, as ever, it will be up to individual retailers whether they choose to supply that demand. It goes without saying that we very much hope they will, but even if they don’t, we’re well equipped to meet customer demand ourselves.”'

Round of applause for Dan Hiscocks at Eye Books.

Eye Books to publish Linehan's professional memoir

Independent publisher Eye Books will publish “Father Ted” creator Graham Linehan’s professional memoir.

I am so very pleased for Graham that the advance sales are so strong. That must be a massive boost for him.

Is there any legal way for the rights to the Father Ted Musical to be re-acquired from Hat Trick? Hopefully Graham’s book talks about this awful ongoing scandal, and there’s now some movement on it.

And the only reason he isn't number 1 is that the new Richard Osman book only came out this week, and those books always sell like hotcakes. So it's a remarkable achievement. All thanks to the publicity that our dear chums such as India Willoughby and co have been giving it.
