Her views on trans are widely shared by leftwing and liberal people - for obvious reasons. On other subjects she seems to align with right wing conservatives - and often enough with the DUP. Still she has a good turn of phrase and her support for Róisín is very welcome of course.

The DUP are not far right.

I tell you what, pop along to Iran, Saudi/Qatar, Russia/Belarus, N. Korea...check the far right over there and get back to us.

The DUP might be pompous, out of touch, and gullible (easily fooled by Johnson on his "oven ready Brexit"), but far right means your politics Sat Nav needs fixing.

RealityFan · 03/09/2023 15:17

Oh, Kabul and Myanmar as well.

On what other subjects specifically has she expressed far-right views?
To me at least, the phrase far-right has always means extremist, anti-democratic views. Saying someone is far-right is not at all the same as saying someone is right-wing/holds conservative views that are shared by many. Far right explicitly signals extremism, veering towards facism, nazism - this is presumably why a pp found the term applied to Eilis O'Hanlon to be slanderous.

Far-right is an accusation that is thrown about far too easily these days.

If the DUP are not far right then words no longer retain their meaning and we may as well all just take up basket weaving. In fairness I don't find them pompous. Just detached from reality

I live in Ireland so take your bonkers comparisons to the middle and far east elsewhere. Next you'll be advising me to live in Mother Russia if I don't like it round these parts. But I have no intention of ' popping along ' or ' getting back to us' . Whoever 'we' are we sound rather pompous.

Corbyn wing...left
Starmer/LDs...centre/left
Sunak...centre/right
Reform...right

Let's reserve far right for who most deserves the label.
I could call Corbyn far left for being a Sinn Fein advocate back in the 70s and 80s, sympathiser for Hamas and Iran, supporter of total open borders and unrestricted Self ID...but that would be a bit lazy, yes.

So I'll keep far right/far left for those forces you really would be afraid of.

Biffology · 03/09/2023 16:13

I'm not sure the old left/right dichotomy makes sense any more. How's about authoritarian/non-authoritarian ? There's a lot of sefl-defined liberals who are, in fact, all too happy to protect the freedoms of some, by censoring others.

This situation is a bell-weather if ever there was one. anyone who wants to burn witches has just come out at a #PRAM. I'm not advocating banning these people but I am advocating that their intention to cancel, be shown up for what it is.

A re-calibration here would see Roisin with a bigger audience than ever before - for all the right reasons - and those who have called for her silencing finding themselves being forced to explain their motives, for a welcome change.

Biffology · 03/09/2023 16:17

The fact of the matter is that we happen to be more politically and culturally diverse than them .* *But that's actually a strength.

We are society-at-large, while they are a lobby-group, whose tactics are beginning to back-fire on them...

Note that language has been re-purposed - distorted - to suit censorious purposes. Case-in-point, the word bigot

The folk who sling this word about at the rest of us, tend to want censorious punishments carried out against those they have targetted. Bigoted, much ?

Words may hurt but censorship is far, far, worse.

Just passed a rough trade tote being worn quite prominently. Perhaps a coincidence. Perhaps not. Absolutely no surprises at the demographic of the wearer.

Biffology · 03/09/2023 17:04

@RavingStone

They're proud of themselves and the harm they do. But they are one demographic, with a mono-syllabic manifesto. They don't own culture.

We have our song of freedom, this is theirs.

Unlike Bud Light, Target, Costa, Body Shop etc where boycotting is the order of the day, I think this would be wrong for Róisín. The TRA blue hairs are already doing this, thus plummeting sales brand her.

She needs her sales to be greater than ever, success for this album could not be easily spun as justification for the label mistreating her.

Look at all the artists the fuckers have on the label https://www.ninjatune.net/artists

They are gagging all of them by mistreating Murphy like this.

@ColinTheGenderMinotaur Start at the beginning and work forwards - you're in for a very intersting experience.

Biffology · 03/09/2023 17:22

I'm really happy to be getting shot of these cancel culture people. They're a drag. I'm off to see PiL, later in the month. Let's see what John Lydon thinks about all of this - he's bouuuunnnnnnd to have an opinion. 😄

Awwww! I know the title says “Creepy as hell!” but those tots are amazing! They must have had (full-size!) guitars given to them as newborns to be that proficient at an age most kids can barely hold a pencil the right way up.

Biffology · 03/09/2023 17:28

True.. But think of the repression involved. And those 'smiles' tell a story, don't they ?

Exactly. No way you can get kids of that age playing like that without terrorising them into compliance.

Biffology · 03/09/2023 17:31

Man in uniform : Children, what is 2+2 ?
Four year-old : Five, Comrade Commissar, please don't beat me again.

Biffology · 03/09/2023 17:32

Comrade Commissar beats the kid again, harder than before, cos that's what they did to him when he was their age.

Biffology · 03/09/2023 17:34

In the 80's, didn't Morrissey kill his kitten by only feeding it cabbage, or something - no meat ?

MavisMcMinty · 03/09/2023 17:35

Oh Jesus, that’s distressing, wish I hadn’t read that.

Also, holding guitar strings against the fretboard really hurts small fingers! I quit guitar for accordion because my finger tips just aren’t tough enough for wire 😬

Biffology · 03/09/2023 17:42

...And what was that about puberty-blockers, again, Comrade Commissar ?
