Her views on trans are widely shared by leftwing and liberal people - for obvious reasons. On other subjects she seems to align with right wing conservatives - and often enough with the DUP. Still she has a good turn of phrase and her support for Róisín is very welcome of course.

To me at least, the phrase far-right has always means extremist, anti-democratic views. Saying someone is far-right is not at all the same as saying someone is right-wing/holds conservative views that are shared by many. Far right explicitly signals extremism, veering towards facism, nazism - this is presumably why a pp found the term applied to Eilis O'Hanlon to be slanderous.

Far-right is an accusation that is thrown about far too easily these days.

If the DUP are not far right then words no longer retain their meaning and we may as well all just take up basket weaving. In fairness I don't find them pompous. Just detached from reality

I live in Ireland so take your bonkers comparisons to the middle and far east elsewhere. Next you'll be advising me to live in Mother Russia if I don't like it round these parts. But I have no intention of ' popping along ' or ' getting back to us' . Whoever 'we' are we sound rather pompous.

Let's reserve far right for who most deserves the label.
I could call Corbyn far left for being a Sinn Fein advocate back in the 70s and 80s, sympathiser for Hamas and Iran, supporter of total open borders and unrestricted Self ID...but that would be a bit lazy, yes.

So I'll keep far right/far left for those forces you really would be afraid of.

I'm not sure the old left/right dichotomy makes sense any more. How's about authoritarian/non-authoritarian ? There's a lot of sefl-defined liberals who are, in fact, all too happy to protect the freedoms of some, by censoring others.

This situation is a bell-weather if ever there was one. anyone who wants to burn witches has just come out at a #PRAM. I'm not advocating banning these people but I am advocating that their intention to cancel, be shown up for what it is.

A re-calibration here would see Roisin with a bigger audience than ever before - for all the right reasons - and those who have called for her silencing finding themselves being forced to explain their motives, for a welcome change.

The fact of the matter is that we happen to be more politically and culturally diverse than them .* *But that's actually a strength.

We are society-at-large, while they are a lobby-group, whose tactics are beginning to back-fire on them...
