Most of the trouble comes from the “allies” rather than trans people themselves.

The trans people I know are quietly and happily living their lives in the bodies they feel they should have been born in.

They feel no need to proclaim they bought their new bodies from the highest rooftops, they feel no need to make women uncomfortable and are appalled that they might inadvertently do so, they feel no need to cancel anyone for expressing an opinion.

The people I know feel that the “allies” are making their lives more difficult - not easier.

And that is a bloody great shame.

WarriorN · 02/09/2023 15:12

She says she made the album before she got the deal and was touting it around.

She also said makes short record deals these days, which appears to be the done thing.

It's all those #PRAMS.

PRAM is a fantastic acronym Pose as Radical Actually Misogynistic, coming to a toilet door in a captured institution soon. I reserve graffiti for the arts council not small businesses

RealityFan · 02/09/2023 16:54

I never thought Black Pampers could be beaten, but it's neck and neck with PRAM.

I just feel bad that real world occupants of perambulators, who scream and holler for perfectly good reasons, are to be associated with our so-called adult meltdown specialists.

ApocalipstickNow · 02/09/2023 17:13

It’s a perfect description.

So many men so excited to have an opportunity to express their misogyny. Must have been so hard for them keeping quiet when the Right Side of History said “be decent to women”.

They didn’t take long to put a stop to that.

I pre-ordered her new album and now hear the record company is donating profits to a trans charity ffs

I'm not sure this is true. Has anyone seen this actually said from official sources?

Just seen this on twitterX and it's got me wondering

x.com/_helendale/status/1697935223520952350?s=46

Skyvemind · 02/09/2023 18:41

I don’t want to give credence to this without seeing it in a statement from her record company. I mean if they were going to take such a declarative and biased action, they would surely capitalise on it with a statement of their intentions wouldn’t they?

So It’s got ME thinking that IF someone has fabricated a story about her record label donating their profits/income from her new record to a trans youth charity, then this also hurts her sales in making supporters like us who want to support her in this unsure and/or avoidant of buying her album and risking generating income for charities that push puberty blockers.

I wonder whether a move such as this by her record company would really be authorised so quickly as it is incredibly undermining and damaging but also entirely plausible in this era where huge pressure will be put on them to show which ‘side’ they are on. You can imagine some label exec saying we can shut the whole thing down if we donate our profits to a trans charity. That will get ahead of the bad press story, avoid pressure on our other Ninja artists, get everyone off our backs and keep us uncancelled.

Ultimately, she, and we, are Transed if you do, Transed if you don’t.

namitynamechange · 02/09/2023 19:18

It also puts the record company in an awkward position since if they come and say they aren't donating the profits etc, they look like the bad guys "I'm NOT giving this money to the children's charity don't worry" and open themselves up to people asking why they aren't. Almost a way of forcing their hand. If that was the case it would make sense for them not to acknowledge even hearing that rumour at all...

RealityFan · 02/09/2023 19:24

So...support Róisín by buying all her albums incl the new one? Label can say their "stand" justified in generating sales.
Support Róisín by boycotting the new album and only buying from previous labels? The new label can say her transphobia hurt sales.
What's an ethical Róisín supporter to do?

It's hard as I genuinely love the latest album.

I've got Apple Music so can stream what's been released so far

PurpleBugz · 02/09/2023 19:30

Exactly.

Imho, I would buy all her stuff if you're a fan. Including the new album. This would send an unequivocal message of love and support to her. The label will spin anyway they want to, there's no control on that.

Róisín will know the sales are support for the view she still subscribes to, her original private FB post. Her flighty queer non fans are already deserting her in "they/their" droves. Any burst in sales will be from # IStandWithRóisín stallwarts.

Whether she takes legal action for her record label deliberately sabotaging her interests, she would surely be more encouraged if her sales hit the roof despite the best (ie worst) intentions of the label.

WarriorN · 02/09/2023 19:42

By the way, the Fader video is beautiful; she arranged a parade through her home town in Ireland. It's in black and white and loads of cute happy kids doing scout/ marching band/ Irish dancing good old fashioned happy parade stuff.

The world being the way it is today, someone piped up with 'This is so white..' 🙄

I would suggest Business As Usual, on the grounds of 'I don't need publicity, I know this album is being released and I am buying it. The cancellation thing and it's consequences are of no interest to me. (sings) 'I never questioned it.. ' Whaddayamean, shush ?

I saw her headline a festival before this all came out. She was magnificent. The crowd was very young and generally it was a very young very posh festival and I bet any money if this had come out before none of that Harry Potter generation would've been in the crowd so Im glad it didnt. I was with three other women on our fifties and it was something that we talked about at length and the comedians we went to see did too. Russell Kane was especially good about cancel culture and a lesbian comedian was very good, Kate Martin. Infact, most of them had something to say.

Biffology · 02/09/2023 20:01

@RealityFan

Then, we can all point at any PRAMs present and ask them 'How could you have questioned us ?' At which point they can leave the room in abject shame. Or stay and get educated, if their egos can handle the idea of learning something from, y'know, a woman ?

WarriorN · 02/09/2023 20:02

Interestingly, though I've only done a cursory glance, there's only really positive comments on YouTube re <all this> .

I'm starting to think half the idiots commenting don't know who she is, aren't really fans and are basically all trolling a woman.

Love the way the song is synched with the dancing kids . Wouldn't say Arklow was tiny. It's Manhattan compared to the village I live in 😂

RealityFan · 02/09/2023 20:09

I've always wondered which was going to be the cancel culture story that really blew up in the faces of the Groupthinkers.

It could have been JKR, and maybe if she'd never come out fighting after being cowed initially, her story would have stilled the tide.

Yes, we can all see how she's been systematically bullied, but she's emerged from a pretty dark hole to be an uncancelled as they come.

Glinner? Maybe his nuclear powered feistiness means he's not the straw that breaks this camel's back. And he's a man.

Of course there are many others. From Kath Stock to a whole host of GC authors.

But something feels different here. Róisín is no warrior, or someone with a sharp academic background (I don't think so). She said this in private. She said nothing that would offend any right thing citizen. She confirmed the current science.

She's also beloved by everyone it seems, and is totally inclusive. And a success in an industry that can be pretty shallow and awful to older women.

And beyond a simple statement of differing opinion from her label, she is more than anyone I've seen in this Maoist terror being absolutely singled out, absolutely monstered, absolutely hung out to dry as an example.

I really think a line is gonna have to be drawn in the sand. If Róisín really goes down here, noone is safe.

Biffology · 02/09/2023 20:26

As I said two days ago

'..it's an exciting moment, where we have the chance to break out of an increasingly narrow-minded and frankly very un rock 'n' roll, cultural space.'

Who's coming along for the ride ?
