I always think of American culture as neo Calvinist.

Macho , hostile to gays and women.
Power , wealth and fame a sign of God's grace.
Cult of the individual , fear and distrust of the collective.

Looks like Forbes are trying to get some sort of overview of the question. Roisin's defenders thus far are polemical, focussed mainly on how this situation is part of an on-going trend. The opponents just want what they want.

So I suppose it's quite handy, actually .

@Abhannmor I chose Maoism as there is a 'cultural revolution, 'day zero', aspect to the ideological project pursued by these people.

The Salem trials have been given a woke make-over and these old prejudices repackaged in, as I say, a Day Zero re-boot for the cultural elites. .

And STILL the likes of Ian Dunt, Jon Lis, Otto English et al take zero interest or say it's all confected culture war.

I hate these people even more than the TRAs. They have their bias. Liberal voices are meant to call out iliberalism.

If trans people don't want to be part of a culture war, as they claim that they are, then don't try to cancel people involved in media and arts because they express an opinion on how best to treat gender-questioning children.

Glossing over what's been happening to children is not sustainable even in America. Eventually the dam will break over there just as it did on all other healthcare/pharma scandals.

As everything about America is 'go big or go home'. The scale of the fallout, the harm done and eventually the mass compensation and 'lessons learned' will be bigger than in any other country because they went big into it in the first place.

It will probably take them years to catch up with Europe but when they do it will still be like other countries don't exist!

They will be the perpetrators, the bystanders, the whistle blowers and the hero saviours all in one go. All in a narrative that largely ignores the numerous other countries that backtracked and dealt with it sensibly years or even decades before.

That's not a slight on individual Americans, some who post here and have been tirelessly trying to object and point out the obvious. Just a recognition of the way things seem to work in the US.

Brendan O' Neill was first off the mark with his article, which suggests to me that he's been watching all this going on, which it has been for some time - here's a recent quote from him :
