Catching up on this. The level of OTT overreaction to what she has actually done is just wild. And frankly Ninja Tune can get fucked.

Also, apologies if this has already been noted but I keep seeing a strand of narrative around this whole thing that suggests older GC women saying they are fans of Roisin's music are obviously only pretending, jumping on a bandwagon. Like we aren't precisely the right demographic to have been listening to her for decades. I remember seeing Moloko live right after their first album came out, a brilliant night; and lots more times in the 90s.

I know that isn't the main issue but it's always the same, isn't it; the lazy stereotyping. Women over 40 couldn't possibly be an authentically human group of people with a history of buying a variety of music and going to gigs🙄

Like most singles, this was only available for a short while.

I don't believe most of these people truly think Roisin is a transphobe. As this is a highly misogynistic movement, they probably think she is a silly middle aged woman who has listened to the wrong people and needs to be educated.

However, there are two things going on here, the desire to come down harder on doubters than unrepentant unbelievers "pour encourager les autres", and the potential for many people involved to boost their own profiles by attention seeking and virtue signalling.

I agree. I also think they are doubling-down because they can see the tide turning on puberty blockers, at least in Europe.

This is a good point, too.

What we're observing are all hallmarks of ideologically-motivated activity - and never let a search for truth get in the way of a good witch-burning !

Another tell-tale is projection : they talk accusingly of cess-pools and vitriol, whilst empowering what can be seen on Twitter. One thing was a gif of a woman, in her underwear, tied up with with a flour-sack over her head, being drawn along in a tumbril...

It’s absolutely a message to stop other women speaking up.

Musicians regularly say (and do) worse and get shrugs. This is a warning.

Actually this is true. On some other spaces I've posted very considerate and polite push-backs on trans issues and the comments have been removed, whilst the hate-filled comments stood.

TRAs want to promote a narrative of victimisation and want all hate-filled comments to be seen as "evidence" of hatred whilst removing all sensible comments.

So was this, CD 2. . I once spotted Things To Make And Do on a cassette - not someone's mixtape, an official Echo release, at the time. Took a look on ebay and there's some there. When the batteries start going flat in your personal stereo, you get Maurice's album, for free ! 🤓

I have a thread running where I, seemingly counter intuitively, claim that 2023 is a watershed year for our collective PoV, despite what is a radicalising and ramping up in rhetoric and fervour.

Despite feeling nothing but anger and contempt for the record label's treatment of Roisin and SJB being let off misogynist hate speech in public, I do believe these two events are consistent with the litany of craziness we've had this year in particular.

If I'm right (don't put any money on it), the move to sanity is happening. And this move is predicated on sunlight shining thru more and more, both exposing the craziness, and causing it to burn or react.

Because in years to come, we'll look at the public burning/drowning/lynching of Roisin in 2023 as the start of the tail end of a movement where bullying in plain sight with tacit approval was permitted.

In any civil war, there are awful casualties even when the just side is starting to win. I think Roisin will be in this category.

'What's happening to@RoisinMurphy
is happening to indie musicians too. I'm being threatened by trans activists and have an injunction out on the man who is stalking me. My booking agent doesn't give AF. He said "our position as a company is clear - transgender women are women" and "if you continue to publicly deny that trans women are women, your position will have detrimental affects on your musical career." As it stands he doesn't have the guts to cancel me, so I'm stuck on the naughty step unable to promote my new album or earn a living. Roisin is a major artist with a much bigger platform than me. Hearing her say she feels "uncomfortable" and "deeply unsuitable" for this public discourse feels like a kick in the face. None of us woke up one day and decided it'd be fun to goto war but here we are, and we're all on the front lines whether we like it or not. The sooner women musicians realise this and grow a spine the better.'

I've been listening to Louise Distras all morning on Spotify

I do feel the tide is turning, but that might just be because I’ve turned in the last year, and as everyone says, once you’ve seen it you can’t stop seeing it.

And there’s no turning back from the GC side, there are no persuasive or logical arguments for gender ideology once you’re aware of all the damage to vulnerable complicated children, and all the women’s rights-trampling in sports and single-sex spaces. It’s impossible to go back to the nonchalant shrug, to #BeKind and #NoDebate.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 01/09/2023 13:50

Roisin is a pyrrhic victory for TRAs. Unlike JKR or Glinner, she has been cancelled over a single FB message, which is exclusively about PBs.

Biffology · 01/09/2023 13:55

@RealityFan

I'm not a religious person but I recall singing this at school. Roisin hasn't oppressed anyone or even endorsed oppression, quite the contrary - she has merely expressed concerns in private about unintended harm.

By contrast, we have people seeking to do actual harm to her, utterly undermining the idea that they are qualified to lecture the rest of us about virtue and we have no right of reply. This one goes out to them.

All the more reason to crush her dissent. Most of the work raising awareness about the harms of puberty blockers, rapists in women's prisons, etc is done by talking to people quietly, not by making public statements. The point of this attack on Róisín is to make all GC people scared to even talk in private and so cut off our most very effective way of getting our message out.

As a tactic, it reminds me of how the Hitler Youth were encouraged to inform on their own families. Again, for the same reason: to prevent dissenters from influencing others.

Also:

If they are refusing to promote her album, she may well have a legal case against them, for breach of contract.

She certainly has one under the Equality Act, for discrimination over her protected belief that TWAM.

I wondered about this earlier; she didn't even say anything about transwomen not being women.

She made a point about a drug that isn't even licensed for that purpose in children!!

It's actually quite bonkers if you think about it.

OP posts:
WarriorN · 01/09/2023 14:31

Presumably it's insinuated because she said don't call me a terf and there's an image of Glinner's chin on the screenshot.

But she didn't say anything that needs protecting legally.

Thankfully, it does look like the demographics of the comments are beginning to better reflect the demographics of the actual audience.

Ther have been certain groups who have sought to make things all about them, in order to strengthen their bargaining position - basically, monopolise.

And you can see what they think of the rest of that audience, when some of us show our faces. We're told she's theirs, to do with as they see fit.
